My son is taking his road test for driver license. I request duas for his success and that he doesn't wreck my car.

Also, I have a preliminary telephone interview for a job tomorrow morning. Please pray for my success if this is the right job for me. It's through a recruitment agency so I know nothing about the company.

Edit: he passed! But still request duas for interview tomorrow.

Did you get the job?

and congratulations on passing

It was a preliminary interview with the recruiter, and it was successful; he will pass my information to his client.  He has a few other clients who might also be interested in hiring me if the first doesn't work out, but he's most enthusiastic about the one in particular.  I hope his client decides to give me a chance.  I'm looking for remote civil engineering work, which is perfectly feasible, but old civil engineers are extremely resistant to anything new.

I still don't know anything about the company.  If it's some war contractor, I'm going to be angry.

This looks extremely interesting! Go women in engineering! I'm sure you'll get picked for the remote position . Sending prayers

If you were in the US or UK, I would say absolutely do it. If it is reasonably safe and you will feel better about yourself and at peace, and you can afford it, you should do it. Hope everything goes well for you.

I cannot do it. It seems like apartment complexes have requirements that your income must be 3 times higher than the rent. That's crazy, how do so many people live in houses they cannot afford if  income requirements are so strict? I am looking for housing assistance but there are so many websites, I just don't know who to contact. It looks like all doors are closing. I cannot find a solution at all.

Does anyone know how safe is motel 6 or other 2-star hotels? I have stayed for few nights, they have weird looking people, so many flyers about human trafficking, and at night you hear people fighting, women crying. It just feels so unsafe although the price is $50 per night.

Which state are you in?

Do you think you are qualified to buy a house? As long as you have a 2 years of work history, you can get a house , i can help with this.

Yes most rental places require 3 x the income, but the real problem is that there aren't enough space in those apartments, I've had clients who paid for the application fee and never got a call back because not enough empty units .

I wouldn't mind living in a motel if i was a single man who carries, but its not suitable for women or families with kids.

you can find a private landlord too

going back to renting an appartement, how much can you afford to pay? I know places that are flexible with the income criteria.

Message me so i can work something with you

There was a shooting in a high school nine miles from my house. It isn't our zoned school, but these incidents happen everywhere. Have humans always been violent like this? We need to learn empathy and community.

Wow, Chipotle Mexican Grill is hiring at $13.50 to $15 an hour, so McDonald's workers are leaving their jobs. Apparently Dick's drive-in restaurant (Seattle, WA) can't get workers; their Facebook page said starting wages increased to $19 an hour at all locations with $20 an hour starting wage at the Broadway and Queen Anne Locations. Amazing times we are living in.

I'd always thought of posting on Shiachat as being a form of voluntary social work.

I have also, but it's not nearly as active as it was years ago. I'll probably have time for work and family and shiachat.

I remember refreshing the "unread posts" to see all the new topics every few minutes. Social media has changed people. They don't talk as much anymore.

I'm up to four interview invitations now. Either everyone else dislikes these jobs, or my application was better than I thought. My calendar is getting complicated.

Oh, my toes hurt. I'm not sure these steel toe work shoes from when I worked on construction sites back in 2006 are up to the task of working retail.

It was fun though, except when it was not busy and I had to find things to pretend to be working. I walked the store aisles and the storage rooms, so now I can find anything, and I swept an entire perfectly clean floor.

This happened at a Masjid in the area where I live. The Masjid is Imam Sadiq Masjid in Detroit. In this part of Detroit, there are alot of drug addicts wandering the streets. I am not saying 100% this is what it was, because I wasn't there but I am familiar with that area because my old barber shop used to be near that masjid.

Seems that lady was just a passer by and joined in??, probably doesn't understand a thing that's going on..

She understood there was some sort of dance and she joined in. I don't blame her, have seen this type of matam before and never looked good.

Why can't these people do a simple matam??

Why they are doing it in the streets where many drugs addicts are wandering over there? Someone told me there are hookers on that street as well. They could’ve went to any Shia masjid or hussaniya.

I’m glad that the lady left without making and troubles.

Seven interviews so far for 24 applications submitted! What is going on? I'm used to 1000 applications for maybe one interview, and that interview has a 20% chance of leading to an offer.

Maybe I was in the wrong line of work all along. One of those seven interviews is for a civil engineering remote position. I will only take it if it's really good, even though the pay will almost definitely be much higher than these assistant teacher jobs. (Why are teachers paid so little anyway?)

Job market is really good right now for experienced professionals. Alot of people are retiring (cause their 401ks are in a good state right now) and alot are quitting because of pandemic health related issues or worries about their health. Also, there is alot of construction going on so alot of civil engineering positions.

I like the company where I am working at now, but I sent out a few resumes about a month ago just to see what would happen. Every single one of them wanted to interview me. It's weird right now.

Completely unrelated: I'm applying for really low salary jobs in a field I've never worked in before. But I did got one civil engineering interview - the exact one I was looking for - after I gave up on looking for engineering jobs. I've been broke or near broke pretty much all my life, and I've done a lot of different work to make ends meet, but since I don't have to struggle financially right now, I'm only accepting work that I can feel good about.

I hope my Shiachat posts have shown you that it' perfectly possible to be an expert on epidemiology one minute, foreign policy the next and colonial history the minute after.

I have no expertise in anything, but I'm a quick learner and curious about everything.

Unless you want a parking lot, stormwater pond, or golf course subdivision with recreational trails and cul-de-sac roads - I'm pretty expert at those things.

Also I refuse to lock down my social media, and that might count against me, because I've been clear that I despise golf courses and other injustices.

Well, looks like I might end up being a politician too.  I'm running unopposed for an elected committee position with a growing political party. I don't want to do it, but it seems nobody else is willing. I'm not a leader, I'm an ideas person, but if nobody does it, the movement is going to fail, and I don't want that to happen more than I don't want to lead.

I request duas that a lot more people sign up to run for these committee positions.

Actually, anyone here in Virginia and interested?  PM me and I'll brief you on the Virginia People's Party and you can decide whether you are interested in getting involved.

Any person that thinks of themselves as a leader, is not a leader. You'll do fine, and hopefully great inshallah.

I hope all is well with everyone.  @notme Congrats on the new job and don't worry about the committee, I'm sure you'll be fine.

@starlight and @Marbles - Hope you two are doing okay as well. I wonder what happened bro Darth Vader?
