Quick Question

I'm noticing that Sarwar translates وضوء as "washing hands" sometimes. Is it correct to do so? 

If a narration states do وضوء before and after eating food to repel poverty, does it refer to hand-washing or ablution?

What is سویق?

It's translated as "Roasted flour" but I'm not sure if this is accurate. Is it? 

Whatever it is, it's really good for you. Find it and eat it!

سَوِيقٌ Meal of parched barley (شَعِير), or of [the species thereof, or similar grain, called] سُلْت, likewise parched; and it is also of wheat; but is mostly made of barley (شعير); (MF, TA;) what is made of wheat or of barley; (Mṣb, TA;) well known: (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ, TA:) [it is generally made into a kind of gruel, or thick ptisan, being moistened with water, or clarified butter, or fat of a sheep's tail, &c.; (see لَتَّ;) and is therefore said (in the Mṣb in art. حسو and in the KT voce أَكْلٌ, &c.,) to be supped, or sipped, not eaten: but it is likewise thus called when dry; and in this state is taken in the palm of the hand and conveyed to the mouth, or licked up: (see حَافّق, and قَمِحَ it is also made of other grains beside those mentioned above; and of several mealy fruits; of the fruit of the Theban palm; (see حَتِىٌّ;) and of the carob; (see خَرُّوبٌ;) &c.:] it is also, sometimes, with ص: so says IDrd in the Jm: and he adds, I think it to be of the dial. of Benoo-Temeem: it is peculiar to that of Benul-'Ambar: (O, TA:) the n. un. [meaning a portion, or mess, thereof] is with ة {سَوِيقَةٌ}: (AAF, TA in art. جش and the pl. is أَسْوِقَةٌ. (TA.)

Salam the translation refers to both of them but there is multiple narrations & reports that are referring to washing hands before eating by our Imams.

Can you post some of these narrations that refer only to hand washing as opposed to ablution or hand washing?

I'm wondering what terms they've used for hand-washing only.

There is a chapter in al-Kafi called Description of wudhu before food (صفة الوضوء قبل الطعام) http://shiaonlinelibrary.com/الكتب/1127_الكافي-الشيخ-الكليني-ج-٦/الصفحة_290#top

The narrations are talking about washing the hands, not full ablutions.

It's quite a long narration, here is the first part that talks about washing the hands before eating.

 أبي رضي الله عنه قال: حدّثنا سعد بن عبد الله قال: حدّثني محمد بن عيسى بن عبيد اليقطيني، عن القاسم بن يحيى، عن جدّه الحسن بن راشد، عن أبي بصير ومحمّد بن مسلم، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: حدّثني أبي، عن جدّي، عن آبائه عليهم السلام «أنّ أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام علّم أصحابه في مجلس واحد أربع مائة باب مما يصلح للمسلم في دينه ودنياه».

قال عليه السلام: «إنّ الحجامة تصحّح البدن وتشدّ العقل، والطيب في الشارب من أخلاق النبي صلّى الله عليه وآله وكرامة الكاتبين، والسواك من مرضات الله عز وجل وسنّة النبي صلّى الله عليه وآله، ومطيبة للفم، والدهن يلين البشرة، ويزيد في الدماغ ويسهّل مجاري الماء، ويذهب بالقشف، ويسفر اللون، وغسل الرأس يذهب بالدرن وينفي القذاء. والمضمضة والاستنشاق سنّة وطهور للفم والأنف. والسعوط مصحّة للرأس وتنقية للبدن وسائر أوجاع الرأس. والنورة نشرة وطهور للجسد.

استجادة الحذاء وقاية للبدن وعون على الطهور والصلاة. وتقليم الأظفار يمنع الداء الأعظم ويدرّ الرزق ويورده، ونتف الإبط ينفي الرائحة المنكرة وهو طهور وسنّة مما أمر به الطيّب عليه السلام، غسل اليدين قبل الطعام وبعده زيادة في الرزق وإماطة للغمر عن الثياب ويجلو البصر. وقيام الليل مصحّة للبدن، ومرضات للربّ عز وجل، وتعرّض للرحمة، وتمسّك بأخلاق النبيين. أكل التفاح نضوح للمعدة، مضغ اللبان يشدّ الأضراس، وينفي البلغم ويذهب بريح الفم، والجلوس في المسجد بعد طلوع الفجر إلى طلوع الشمس أسرع في طلب
