Which MBA would be better to serve the Ahlulbayt and how ?

Assalamualaikum, 

I did my under-grad in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and a week ago I started my MBA in Aviation Business Management. I also recently got back into religion, and I am SUPER INTERESTED to serve the Ahlulbayt and the community somehow. Right now I've chosen MBA in Aviation (and I do not know how this will help me serve the Ahlulbayt or to do any good for the people) but to my luck, I have an option of Dual-Specialization. So I can choose either of these :

1. MBA (Aviation + International Business Management)

2. MBA (Aviation + Finance)

3. MBA (Aviation + Marketing) 

The problem is I really do not know which one of these will help me serve the community or to serve the Ahlulbayt. I would not even mind working for NGO's like WhoIsHussain. I am very interested to work for them. Can you please guide me ?

Alhamdulillah your intention of serving the deen is noble. What I would say is that even if your degree or job is not directly linked, you can still help in other ways. Counselling, pro bono consulting etc. Financial help is of course always useful as well.

I think sometimes it's a good idea to maintain a stable job and to devote one's free time to community service. In this manner you already have a stable income and can dedicate your services voluntarily to the religious community.

That's true. Financial help is great. But I really want a stable job serving the community instead. I've also been thinking that if I can't serve the community the way I want to, I'd atleast earn enough money to fund at least 5 Ziyaarat's for any random family.

 I am not sure whether we are talking about cross-purposes here.

You keep using the phrase 'job', but you also mentioned whoishussain. You do realise that organisations such as this mainly rely on volunteers i.e. the work is unpaid.

But some degree may be required to run these organisations right? There must be a management that runs the organisation to be able to run the events. I'm not looking to be a volunteer. I'm looking for a future working with organisations such as WhoIsHussain.

Anyone with differing experience is welcome to contradict me, but to my knowledge the Shia organisations I know of are so poorly funded that they rely on donations from management/trustees, rather than actually paying them. The latter often tend to be people who are middle-aged/retired and have both experience and the willingness/ability to work for free.

Going back to your OP I would have thought the best way forward would be to get more qualifications and a job (most likely commercial) and in your spare time to volunteer. Typically charities who hire managers (for paid employment) would see whether the person has a track record of volunteering (ideally for themselves).

After all why hire someone who appears to only be interested in the money?

The only reason I even thought of even paid employment was to support my family as well. That's it :P

This is exactly what I want to change. I want to be qualified enough to actually bring in some money into the organisations rather than completely relying on donations.

In my opinion, this needs to change as much as it can. The old/retired people mostly come with old ideas. The youth is important. If somehow, a little younger side of the people can handle atleast the marketing aspect, that would be good. Since people of this time would be more aware of what attracts the public. The more we can attract people towards us, the more we can spread the Ahlulbayt's message in the correct way.

In which case why are you focusing on aviation? Should you not consider specialist qualifications in areas such as fund-raising?

Bear in mind fund-raising needs a certain mental temperament (you are effectively a salesperson), so you'd need to be outgoing and a networker so you'd need to reflect on whether you have that.

Of course you could go into aviation sales (pretty tough right now I guess), following any one of your MBA options and then use the sales skills/methods that you have developed and apply them to fundraising.

Having thought about this a bit more, there are actually more substantial Shia charities you could sound out, about a paying role. The television channels are an obvious place and international charities such as al-Ayn. As for the tv stations Ahlulbayt has the size that enables them to pay salaries.

You can go to your local Shia mosque and ask if you can volunteer in any way. If you live in Michigan the Qazwini mosque on Ford is very youth orientated. Don't worry about the how and where, just show God your sincerity and He'll do all that for you. He'll open doors and introduce people to you. I did something similar to what you hoped for and God paid me back with interest, He put ideas and ambitions in my head that blow my mind. Just bring the sincerity and God will take care of the rest. It doesn't matter much what you do, just do anything and always remind yourself that you do this purely for the sake of Allah

Make the choice by which you:

- earn halal, halalest money

- are able to help others more

- are less likely to aid oppressors and jusury/capitalist/imperial systems in any way shape of form
