A wave of chaotic unrest broke out in Malmo, Sweden after anti-Islam activists filmed a public Koran burning, sparking protests that soon descended into riots, with unruly demonstrators setting fires and clashing with police.

Some 300 people gathered along a main thoroughfare in Malmo on Friday around 7:30pm local time to protest after members of a far-right political party staged a Koran burning earlier in the day, according to local press reports. As the crowd grew, fires were ignited in the street and several cars torched, prompting a heavy police response that struggled to bring the situation under control.

“We have ongoing and violent riots right now that we have no control over,” police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told a local news outlet

Personally I think that this is over the top, you don't behave like this against people who had nothing to do with the stunt. Furthermore, like in all these types of situations, it was done specifically to elicit this kind of response so that they can show the world how unruly Muslims are.

This is especially crazy as burning the Qur'an is an acceptable way to dispose of it for Sunnis (I'm assume they formed the majority of the rioters, but I know there is a decent sized Shi'a population in Malmö)

"One can get rid of papers that include the Name of Allah or Quranic verses by burning them or wetting them and then burying them, or by special modern machine (shredder) that destroys papers."

Whether your claim is true or not, the people who burnt a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden did so with the intention of disrespecting it and as a symbolic act of hatred against our Religion. They did not burn the Quran as a respectful way of ensuring that old paper with the name of Allah doesn't end up in the trash and defiled in the gutter. The correct way to dispose of old paper with the Name of Allah and Quranic verses is to bury them respectfully, like the burying of the deceased corpse.

Nevertheless, riots are obviously not the answer. I'm not sure if majority of the rioters were Muslims or Swedish leftists and anti-racists. The media of Muslim countries actually deliberately highlight such stunts by the Far-Right in Europe and America to distract the public, and give them a channel to vent their fury directed against an object that is not them. Otherwise, the sane thing to do is totally ignore such publicity stunts, give them zero coverage, especially in the Muslim world, nothing constructive can come out of highlighting such things to the Muslim world except outraged feelings and possibly riots
