At the same time, as they fostered the growth of the Maliki movement, the Abbasid also attempted to suppress the school of Ahlul Bayt. Not only were the ideas of Ahlul Bayt school threatening, but its leaders were also popular, such as Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq. The sixth Imam of the Shia school of thought, who had nearly 4,000 students attending his classes.
Like the other Imams from Ahlul Bayt, Imam al-Sadiq was put under house arrest and later imprisoned. Only after methods of intimidation and coercion to halt the spread of his teachings failed, did the Abbasid attempt to counter his ideas by creating another intellectual entity to compete with him, in this case, the promotion of the Hanafi and Maliki schools of thought.

interesting. So just out of curiosity why are we called kufaar or there’s no imams where’s imam in Quran or Shia is fake etc yet our 6th imam Ja’far (عليه السلام) was the teacher of 3 madhabs mainly Maliki. Why do they disagree with us so much and spread so much hatred yet we are followers of the person who taught their scholars

I think the kuffar accusations come due to the pulpit and some dubious narrations. You can just refer back to some of the threads on here where people were entertaining the idea of Imams sharing responsibilities with Allah—that will come off as kufr to someone who sees it as a trait of Allah only.

I’m not sure if Imam Sadiq being the teacher of the Sunni madhab helps modern day Shiaism or hurts it. On one coin, you could argue the superiority of the Jaffari school by pointing out the teacher. On the other side of the coin, one can ask why did neither of the 3 students pick up the belief in imamah? Taqiyya by the Imam? Nasb by the students? Not sure if either of those two explain.

As per sunnis the rejection of caliphate of the early 3 caliphs is kufar as per their common thoughts but you will not find any such condition in the qualities of a believer as per hadith in Sahih bukhari in section of belief.

Most sunnis are not against us directly they do have tolerance in general for being the followers of Ahl alabayt though the opposition comes due to difference of opinion  on caliphate.

Yes so we do gotta ask those questions of why didn’t the madhabs follow jafaar afterwards but also why did imam Shafi not agree and follow imam maliki and ended up making his own. Question is why why but we might never know.
