Anyone Else? Secular Family?

Who else is religiously-inclined, but has been born into a less-than-religious family?

Those of us who have been face a unique set of challenges which our brothers and sisters blessed with virtuous families do not. At the same time, our experiences differ from, but can certainly find inspiration in, those of reverts. InshaAllah we will all pass such Divine tests with patience and wisdom.

Does anyone, at any stage of life, currently have a similar experience?

Inshallah we can all benefit from knowing the experiences of brothers and sisters who were born in less-than-religious families.

Im an american convert, so yea..its difficult, and the more i practice islam, the harder dealing with this gets. Instead of becoming more tolerable of things as islam encourages, i find myself less tolerant of how my family lives due to things like the dog being in the house, they hardly EVER clean, so the whole house is filled with giant hairballs of doghair and dirt and dust cuz the dog rolls in the dirt,grass, hay etc then comes inside, shakes off and climbs on the beds and chairs and people... They dont wash hands often at all and showering is an issue also...one family member  picks up things he finds on the ground and puts them in his pocket, or in the case of hair ties or rubber bands, puts them on his wallet to keep it tightly closed...Random peoples used hair ties--.--

I find myself digusted and grossed out more than i can deal with sometimes. Before i was muslim, it hardly phased me.

Holidays,birthdays, events etc are always difficult cuz im the one who puts together all the dinners so im dealing with haram meat and trying to keep my stuff separate from theirs to avoid cross contamination.

My husband and i are very clean people so its VERY awkward when these 2 different lifestyles collide. I try to prevent that as much as possible. The cultures are VERY different and i believe its unreasonable to expect my family to have the same hospitality or manners that middle easterners are known for, and THIS has caused me some  stress in the past..The fact that my parents are both in their mid to late 70s is a whole other issue, and i need to be around them, especially with the health issues they have.

Theres also the issue of the damage the mainstream news has had in regards to muslims and world affairs. So sick of always being up against THAT wall and having to set things right --.--

I could go on....

Salam I  born in such family but thanks to Allah I never had any problem with my family even few years ago I wasn't praying & still I have many Qada prayers.

I think this situation is quite common. Here we can learn a lot from the earlier parts of the life of the prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)). 

Despite being in a society where his religion was new to the others and very different to their own, he was already known as an honest (sadiq) and trustworthy (ameen) personality and he inspired many through his etiquette (akhlaq).

These qualities are universally appreciated and recognized and will inshaAllah inspire those around us, regardless of whether they are non muslims or non practicing muslims.

Oh definitely the najasa part is the worse. The best solution was when they asked to go to the bathroom lead them to the back garden, and convey to them that you'll be standing by with a hose once they're finished.
