I am not criticizing Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei in any way. He is my marji' taqlīd.

Brother, since the reason is not fasting on a haram day, why would one fast it in the first place ?

See the absurd in it now ?

In a situation where one isn't sure whether it's Eid or not, he can travel and break his fast.

Another person who follows one Marji who doesn't have Eid whilst his family follow a different Marji who does have Eid, the person can travel if he wishes and break his fast so that he can enjoy a feast with his family.

Iranians mark Eid al-Fitr at end of holy fasting month of Ramadan

Quote

The Office of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei announced Sunday as Ei-al-Fitr after it received multiple reports from reliable religious scholars on the sighting of the new moon.

Ayatollah Khamenei would have led the Eid prayers at the Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds in Tehran as in the past, but the event was cancelled due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Nevertheless, Eid prayers were held in 110 mosques in the capital under strict health protocols.
In a message to Iranians, President Hassan Rouhani congratulated them on Eid al-Fitr, wishing that God would accept their fasting, prayers and good deeds.

I am very well aware of those faqih rulings, you are missing my point.

I am also aware that the Qur'anic ruling aims at easing those who travel. However, here, fuqaha advise the muqallids who are in doubt -and Allah is knowing how dubious those rulings can be- to put themselves in a situation of travel, just so they can have a valid reason to break their fasts. The one and only way to avoid this messy and absurd situation, is calculation.

Brother, you could have saved us two days of back and forth by stating that from the get go lol

I honestly think there won't be consensus on several matters including this one until the time of our Imam AJF and I hope I'm mistaken.

When I was reading about Eid, I learned that some countries have Eid for three days. I was surprised.
