Why Martyrdom?

Salam,

I have an inquiry in regards to martyrdom and would appreciate clarification.

Many a times we see martyrdom as the dream of many individuals who wish to fight for the sake of God and defending religion, however wouldn’t it be a greater cause to propagate towards a means in which martyrdom is the last resort and to always favor a way which seeks to pull us from such confrontational means.

I understand there is evil and as individuals Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) tells us in the Qur'an to not be like sitting ducks and defend ourselves, however my main point is that martyrdom seems to be valued more then working towards a means of ending conflict with no physical harm.

Martyrdom has become a slogan

It is valued because it is one of the greatest sacrifices one can offer for any given cause.

Slogan mongering is meaningless but martyrdom, of itself, is an admirable achievement, if it is for a good cause.
