Salaam.

I was given a warning for posting a coronvirus relevant link from *** to the coronavirus thread.

It said something like “this website has profanity, haram music, nudity, etc and has no educational value.”

The problem is every reason listed also applies to YouTube, which has music, women teaching breastfeeding, etc.

Literally every reason given applies to YouTube and Twitter. The music videos with women dancing. All sorts of haram.

Yet, *** gets singled out.

1) it is a website that users generate the content. Many times, when no other source will publish something, world star does. It is where the Chinese nurses got to speak to the world to get around the China government censorship.

In fact, the first link I posted from there had some very graphic photography of whole neighbourhoods getting doused with sanitiser and a Chinese nurse speaking out the world needs to see. You would not see that video on cnn.

2) It is a place to get news. I did not even see the Iranian official sweating profusely until *** showed it. Perhaps people here want to hide any video making Iran look bad. Ie, censorship.

3) I don’t like censorship. This is something I would expect from Chinese government or other authoritarians. As Shia, we see firsthand the destruction caused by silencing people.

4) moreover, I did not post links to any nudity or haram videos. I don’t even click on those videos. By this logic, no YouTube or twitter links can be posted here bc those sites have nudity, haram, music etc.

the language of the warning I got applies to YouTube links also. Stay consistent.  Otherwise, we all know the dictionary definition of hypocrite.

5) I am being persecuted. I did not expect this from my fellow Shia.

While it wasn't me that did the above, so I am not defending myself as it were, you have to admit though that that site does have inappropriate stuff, in your face regardless of your usage history. On the other hand this is what I see YouTube recommending for me when I go there right now.

That's a key difference.

Thug,

You have to be careful with some sites. l posted an article from an English newspaper which had over in the right column pornography, not nudity. l got a few days of suspension --for essentially carelessness.

So a couple of months ago, l posted an article l found and later wondered if it was from the same "problem paper". Going back to it, l found it was and had another obscenity. So l deleted it before it was discovered.

So be careful.

Yeah right. I remember the homepage of YouTube having thumbnails of women in bikinis even after clearing the browser.

Look at this censorship here now. I can’t even mention the name. Sad.

Congrats on having something in common with the atheist Chinese communists.

Twitter itself has came out in favor of allowing porn.

Meaning, if Iranian officials post something to twitter, ppl with porn in their profile pic can click like and comment on the post. It probably happens often.

Yet no one would have problem posting a tweet from Iranian officials here. Knowing a quick scroll may lead to porn.

This “mixed” world is where we live. Many Muslims support Bernie Sanders because of healthcare for the masses. He supports gay rights.

that doesn’t mean Muslims support everything he says.

Lets change the name to Authoritarian Chat.

Also, like I said, such sites provide a place to upload to the masses videos that should see daylight that governments may not like.

Having to be exposed to distasteful content comes with the territory by definition. That’s the logic behind the first amendment.

This is life in the west. You will be exposed to haram. You should not have moved out here if you’re really worried about being exposed to haram.

stay consistent. Don’t be a hypocrite. Move back. It’s not good to see blonde women without hijab walking down the street. Or billboards for alcoholic drinks everywhere.

I wish YouTube would at least clean out the thumbnails of their trending page... Avoiding/covering that music video 'Motivation' with that haram thumbnail... was a nightmare... it was on trending for what felt like a month! On the mobile app I would often swipe to trending and forget it was there. Every time I had to cover my hand over the screen. Some devices like TVs start up on the trending page with big thumbnails, something I unfortunately learnt when I was helping some middle age adult Muslims load up something on Youtube at their house.

No playing victim here man. You know the rules of this site, and you knew posting that link was against the rules, but did it anyway, and rightfully got the warning for it.

Furthermore, public discussion of staff actions are NOT allowed, and should have been inquired by PM. So tell me, my persecuted bro, in the face of another clear rule violation you voluntarily splashed in front of everybody just now, what should we do to you?

“You know the rules of this site”

if that link is against rules, ALL YouTube and twitter links would also have to be banned.

Elon Musk called twitter a war zone. Some of the most vial speech and visuals happen there. And in YouTube comments. Yet those

I don’t like double standards.

this is a legit topic that should happen in the open for everyone to see.

If my links get removed, stay consistent and also ban every youtube and twitter link. The same logic applied should apply everywhere else here also.

I don't like double or triple standards.

The difference is that you aren't immediately shown those images through a tweet or youtube vid.

Brother thuglife please we know you feel hurt but calm down bro. I have 10 warning points and I have also made protests and the difference is that I know that the mod team is on our side too and do not enjoy "persecuting" posters. They are fallible but they are better with moderation responsibilities than most, and the points you made will help ShiaChat improve ultimately, if not immediately. So ease down brother, imho.

I clear my history often and I still see innapropriate videos and ads being recommended. Usually it's only thumbnails, but some are not.

Neither with ***** **** links. It goes to the video. None of the nude images are shown unless you dig around and click on those video links.

It shows you recommended videos on the right hand side of the screen and these can have very objectionable content.

Perhaps I lead a very sheltered life on twitter, but I have never come across any objectionable content there. I post links to it often, if you see any objectionable content when you click my twitter links, let us know.

On a more serious note, @thuglife , many things have more than one source. With the paper l referred to above, _deleted_, l can find another source that doesn't carry objectional material and sometimes the same exact article.
