Why do good for the sake of Allah? Why not just for goodness?

I was asked this question. Would the most concise answer be:

a) It is God that has endowed you with the intellect to differentiate right & wrong

b) God is the greatest.

Goodness = the sake of Allah. Think about it. What is goodness? Can you define it? At the end, the conclusion you come up with is that doing something for “goodness” is actually another (lesser) way of saying you’re doing it for the sake of Allah. It’s not like Allah NEEDS you to do it? Why does he want you to do it then? Because of goodness. Allah is goodness, and all goodness comes from Allah.

We don't as Allah doesn't require anything. We do good for the sake of ourselves.
