What does the term infallible mean? How does it apply to the Imams(عليه السلام)? I heard different definitions, some say in knowledge, others say sinless and error less

others say choosing not to commit sin.

Infallibility means purity from all errors and mistakes whether physical or mental. They do not sin, and they do not get confused at questions and know their answers.

Every "bashar" has the capacity to do sin(s). Infallibility or "ismah" does not mean that Prophets and Imams doesn't posses this capacity. Rather it is the divine grace & the knowledge bestowed  to them by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) that makes them "mukhlas" servants so they do not err nor do they sin.
