Would be interesting to plot a graph of all these statistics with respect to time and find out the rate of spread and any acceleration if it exists. Then we could extrapolate and find out more.

l just heard in a BBC interview that it is still too early for projections.

For graphs, goto:    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/   the two graphs are below the first two groups of numbers.

In all the articles I have read about the Diamond Princess, there is one thing that no one has explained.

If all the passengers are under strict quarantine, how are lots of them being declared now as testing positive?

COVlD-19  is pneumonic and l think it is being transmitted through the air ducts. There are now 540 Princess cases, 4 of which -according to NHK- tested positive after 14 days from the first test. Comment: l posted 24 days somewhere above.

I read somewhere 'Merica is behind it and that China knows or even protested or something like that. It was a unreliable/tabloid kind of source, a clickbait, so I didn't bother with it. Its easy to turn microorganisms into super bugs. Just you need a mass murderer's will to go hollywood style with it.

That makes sense. And after several days the media are finally providing an explanation, which also makes sense.

Iwata said he had been shocked by conditions on the ship. Experts in infection control were unable to take decisions without the approval of health ministry bureaucrats, he said. In addition the separation of green zones, where there was no evidence of the virus, and potentially infected red zones had not been properly enforced, with officials, crew, health experts and others “walking around” the ship. “It was completely chaotic,” he said.

I would also like to know. From what I have gathered, they don't know a lot about the virus yet. Basic stuff like how it spreads etc. The people who survived the infection were probably treated for symptoms and given anti-viral medicines but so were those who could not recover.

So I would like to know. I have this feeling this could go "viral" in a few more months.

No. The progress seems to be so far in terms of developing tests that are quicker than existing ones. As we have discussed above, the challenge at the moment is simply to buy time (via preventative measures) so that something can be found before this spirals totally out of control.

OPINE: We Do Not Need These Kinds of Pejorative Press

Three Wall Street Journal journalists have had their press credentials revoked in response to a WSJ article insulting to China. https://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-02/19/c_138799073.htm  . The article entitle "China is the Real Sick Man of Asia" is a belittling of the PRC's initial efforts dealing with a new novel-coronavirus-2019 of which nothing was clinically known, how this will maybe affect financial markets (all written in a pontificating way -ed.) and then ends with a 'prediction' that China is a harbinger of more problems in the future. Context can be found here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sick_man_of_Asia .

The original article is here:  https://www.wsj.com/articles/china-is-the-real-sick-man-of-Asia-11580773677

ADDED: The US State Dep't had declared 5 Chinese media companies as "state entities" and has placed restrictions on them.  https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-china-media/u-s-imposes-new-rules-on-state-owned-chinese-media-over-propaganda-concerns-idUSKBN20C2G1

2,122 Deaths

75,660 Confirmed Cases of which 12,061 are serious or critical

57,196 Curently lnfected Patients

16,342 Recoveries

Elsewhere: several media and gov't outlets are describing Japan's quarantine as "failure" from bureaucratic bumbling (a polite way of writing it). As note before, Japan is infected. Also, there are several known carriers that show no symptoms or showed no symptoms for three and four weeks.

Crunching a few numbers from above:

From 05Feb to today, 19Feb20:

Cases have increased from 23,906 tripling to 75,660

Recoveries have increaed from 1,030  to 16,342, a 15.8 rate

While Current cases are about level from 14Feb at 57,303 to 19Feb at 57,146 with a high of 58,789 on 17Feb

These are Worldwide numbers yet China is 99% of the statistics, so "improving" conditions are do to Chinese efforts.

Dr.. Fauci of NIH said on PBS News Hour 19Feb that while this dip in the numbers is encouraging, it is both too soon to tell, and that he is concerned about "anecdotal" cases of non-symptommatic individuals carrying the virus around for weeks beyond the 14 day quarantine times.

Actually it’s 5, just now I saw it in the news. I think 4 died in Qom and 1 in arak, that’s what the new say. They closed the school and universities as well.

Iraq has initiated blocks on the border crossings with Iran. Good step. Now Iraq should stop air travel with people from Qom (or any other infected cities, if there are more) until Iran is confirmed to have the outbreak isolated and under control.

I hope Iran co-operates well with Iraq on this issue.

There are two groups of countries in the world at the moment.

Those which are advanced/organised/thorough enough to test for it are finding it.

Those which don't have the capability aren't.

Which group should we be scared of?

Good, apparently air travel between Iran and Iraq is suspended.
