What are the Brazil, South Africa and UK variants and will vaccines work

Two more cases of a Covid variant first identified in Brazil have been found in the UK, bringing the total number to 12.

Both - one in the West Midlands and one in Haringey, London - were linked with international travel to Brazil.

Some variants, like this one, appear to be more contagious and there are concerns current vaccines may not work as well.

What are these new variants?

There are many thousands of different versions, or variants, of Covid circulating.

Apart from the Brazil variant (also known as P.1), concerns focus on a few:

• A UK or Kent variant (also known as B.1.1.7) now dominant in much of Britain, has spread to more than 50 countries and appears to be mutating again
• A South Africa variant (B.1.351) found in at least 20 other countries, including the UK

It's not unexpected that new variants have developed - all viruses mutate as they make copies of themselves to spread and thrive.

Most of these differences are inconsequential. A few can even be harmful to the virus's survival. But some can make it more infectious or threatening.

Thanks brother. Remember us in your prayers. 

Currently only people above 45 are eligible for vaccine. People above 18 will be eligible from 1st May. I'll wait and see if my employer get us the dose, it would be less crowded. 

Our generous PM donated millions of doses to many countries and even sold millions before inoculating his own citizen. We manufacture 60 percent of world's vaccine. So, we should have inoculated atleast half of the population till now but not even 10 percent is done. We have immense potential but more politics and less work is the motto of our politician.

'Sorry, did not know': Thief returns stolen Covishield, Covaxin vaccines

As many as 1,270 doses of Covishield and 440 doses of Covaxin were stolen from a storeroom of the hospital. The matter came to light when a sanitation worker found the locks of the store and deep freezer broken on Thursday. The police registered a case and took up investigation.

In an interesting turn of events, a young man with his face covered left a bag at a tea stall outside the police station saying that it had lunch for the munshi. “The tea stall owner handed over the bag to the munshi. The policeman opened the bag and found that it contained the stolen vaccines with an apology note. 

 at noon, an unknown man handed over the vaccines to an old man sitting on a tea stall outside the Civil Lines police station and said it was station Munshi's lunch," the DSP said.

How about popping an Aspirin (for blood thinning) after taking vaccine. It could prevent potential blood clot.

Blood clots are rare side effects of Astrazeneca Vaccine (few cases out of millions).Besides Aspirin is NSAID's,using it post vaccinationin is counterproductive.Vaccines work best when they can trigger immune reaction in our body and Aspirin/Ibuprofen will prevent same to happen.
