Imam Ali holy shrine: Eid Al-Ghadir festival cancelled due to Coronavirus

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): According to a statement from the Astan, it has been cancelled due to concerns about spread of the coronavirus, al-Sumaria News reported.

The Ghadir festival is annually held at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (عليه السلام).

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.

It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (عليه السلام) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.

It will fall on Saturday, August 8, this year.

Palestinian prisoner contracts coronavirus in Israeli jail

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Palestinian prisoner recently arrested by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank has tested positive for the coronavirus amid mounting concerns that the health condition of detainees in Israeli jails are at great risk.

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs announced on Sunday that Israeli authorities had informed the commission’s lawyer Karim Ajwa that Nabil al-Sharbati, a resident of the city of al-Khalil, had been infected.

The commission stated that Sharbati was detained nearly a week ago, and the Ofer Military Court ruled on Thursday that he must be remanded in custody for seven days pending further investigation.

Israeli prison officials conducted a coronavirus diagnostic test on the Palestinian two days ago, and he was found to have contacted the virus. He was accordingly put in quarantine at Ramon prison.

Late last month, Palestinian prisoner Mohammad al-Hazeen tested positive for coronavirus a day after he was released from the same prison.

Israel’s Supreme Court ruled on July 23 that Palestinian prisoners have no right to physical distancing protection against coronavirus.

Israel’s top court rejected a petition made by the Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights, which called on Israel to implement COVID-19 protective guidelines for inmates at Gilboa prison.

More than 7,000 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in some 17 Israeli jails, with dozens of them serving multiple life sentences.

Over 350 detainees, including women and minors, are under Israel’s administrative detention.

The administrative detention, which is a form of imprisonment without trial or charge, allows authorities to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The duration could be extended for an infinite number of times.

The detention takes place on orders from a military commander and on the basis of what the Israeli regime describes as ‘secret’ evidence.

Some prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to 11 years.

To comment along the lines of this statement, have you notices the social distancing protests in Australia, Germany (and elsewhere)?

l find it coincidental that these attitudes are are prevalent where Steve Bannon's right-wing-activism has made the greatest inroads.

At the moment l have BBC on the TV, and they reported that police in Australia are being attacked for trying to encourage people to mask-up.

yeah but for BBC  & rest of anti Iran media it's a part of freedom of speech but if any Iranian or shia does it then it will be a protest against oppression of Iranian regime but if breaking law causes spreading of Corona then Iranian regime is responsible for spreading Corona not the people that are violating law for opposing the regime & for KSA  backed wahabi media , it is shias that are spreading corona for killing Sunnis.

Likely from a different standard of social responsibility --like how to dress in public. l don't see going-without-a-mask in lRI as anti-regime but anti-social and irresponsible.

Yet, even in the US, freedom-of-speech has limits. Example: you cannot shout 'fire' in a crowded theater.

Fear, Lockdown, and Diversion: Comparing Drivers of Pandemic Economic Decline 2020

Quote

The collapse of economic activity in 2020 from COVID-19 has been immense. An important question is how much of that resulted from government restrictions on activity versus people voluntarily choosing to stay home to avoid infection. This paper examines the drivers of the collapse using cellular phone records data on customer visits to more than 2.25 million individual businesses across 110 different industries. Comparing consumer behavior within the same commuting zones but across boundaries with different policy regimes suggests that legal shutdown orders account for only a modest share of the decline of economic activity (and that having county-level policy data is significantly more accurate than state-level data). While overall consumer traffic fell by 60 percentage points, legal restrictions explain only 7 of that. Individual choices were far more important and seem tied to fears of infection. Traffic started dropping before the legal orders were in place; was highly tied to the number of COVID deaths in the county; and showed a clear shift by consumers away from larger/busier stores toward smaller/less busy ones in the same industry. States repealing their shutdown orders saw identically modest recoveries--symmetric going down and coming back. The shutdown orders did, however, have significantly reallocate consumer activity away from “nonessential” to “essential” businesses and from restaurants and bars toward groceries and other food sellers.

I just learnt that my 2 freinds had covid19 in April, did not speak to them in a long time.

They told me it felt like a bad flu, they had strong fevers, they were sweating, they felt fatigued(they just wanted to relax) and some times they had a small difficulty breathing but they told me it was defently not pneumonia as they did not feel pain in their backs and it was not severe enough that they needed medical attention.

They told me in other words it was nothing serious to them, just a flu.

Both of them are men at my age so this gave me hope and one them is way more unhealthy then me(he was 110kg he eats unhealthy) so I have a lot of hope with this virus

Imran Khan calls Pakistani Shiites to follow Iran for Muharram rituals amid corona

Quote

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has called on the Shia community in the country to follow the guidelines of Iranian jurisprudents regarding Muharram mourning ceremonies amid the coronavirus pandemic, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He said, "Jurisprudents in Iran have warned of ceremonies to be held like previous years and that certain health protocols must be maintained in order to prevent spread of the infection."

Pakistani premier stressed," We expect the Shia community in Pakistanto follow the ole model for Muharram."

He expressed hope that once the pandemic is ended, Muharram ceremonies are held in their traditional form.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called on people to follow the guidelines announced by the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus as the other jurisprudents have urged the people to raise mourning flags and hold smaller house ceremonies rather than crowded conventions."

They stressed the capacities of the state television and social networks for providing live coverage of prayers and sermons on the lifestyle of Imam Hussein (عليه السلام), third Shia Imam and his companions who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala.

Pakistan

However, in both cities burial figures appear to be returning to more normal rates. Even if some of the "excess deaths" are assumed to be the result of coronavirus, by international standards the mortality rate in Pakistan appears to be relatively low, though not quite as low as official data would suggest.

For leading Pakistani epidemiologist Dr Rana Jawad Asghar, the principal reason for this is Pakistan's young population. The average age in Pakistan is 22 years, compared to about 41 in the UK. The vast majority of deaths globally from the coronavirus have been of elderly patients.
