COVID-19 vaccine candidate results to be released in June
Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Professor Ugur Sahin gave a speech on "Developing COVID-19 mRNA vaccines" during the 7th Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) on May 28, 2020.

The 2019 Mustafa((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Prize laureate, immunologist Ugur Sahin, talked about an mRNA-based vaccine that he and his research team have developed which was recently tested on human beings, MSTF Media reports.

"We are facing a pandemic the only solution to which is a vaccine. This pandemic will challenge us for the next two years "

Explaining the concept of mRNA vaccines, he said that "they deliver mRNA-encoded genetic information of the vaccine antigen to the cells in the body of the subject. It is particularly used in pandemics."

According to Sahin, the clinical trial protocol in Germany started April 23rd, 2020, with a target population of 200 healthy subjects aged 18 to 55.

He also announced that the first results of this study are expected by end of June/early July.

"We have started to increase our manufacturing. I'm confident this can be accomplished in the next three months and be distributed in large dose. Dependingon the dose of the vaccine, we can serve larger populations of people," Sahin remarked.

He said: “we are trying to find a solution to allow free access of this vaccine to all with the cooperation of WHO.”

"In 2018 we launched a foundation to showcase the great technologies developed by scientists in Islamic countries and we really look forward to promote more STEP engagement in Islamic countries," he added.

He then commended the SETP event, stating "I look forward to success of this program and I hope this is a tool for all the countries of the world for a better future without this pandemic."

Twitter puts to fact-checking chinese tweet about virus origins in US

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The social media platform posted a blue exclamation mark under the tweet — posted by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian — with a comment calling on its readers to check the facts about the spread of the contagious disease.

Twitter also fact-checked Trump for the first time on Tuesday over his claims about mail-in ballots, under what it says was an extension of a “misleading information policy.”

No time restriction for pilgrimage to Imam Reza (عليه السلام) holy shrine: Health Minister

Quote

Pointing to various meetings and sessions with the chief custodian of AQR and the Anti-Corona Headquarters, Dr. Namaki said the decision to lift time restrictions on visiting the holy shrine was made due to the hot weather in the shrine city of Mashhad in cooperation with the senior officials in the province. “According to the decisions, the ministry will supervise the general health protocols and Astan Quds Razavi and other authorities in charge will be responsible for right implementation of the health protocol requirements for the health and welfare of the pilgrims.”

The minister asked all pilgrims to strictly observe social distancing and use face masks while visiting the holy shrine, “since the Ministry of Health and Medical Education is working day and night to serve people and assure health and safety of the society.”

Dr. Namaki, in the end, warned that ignoring health protocols and requirements may bring back heavier wave of coronavirus pandemic.

The anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, which US President Donald Trump says he has been taking to protect against COVID-19, has been connected to an increased risk of death in hospitalized coronavirus patients, a large study published showed.

The study, published in the scientific journal The Lancet, looked at more than 96,000 patients with COVID-19. Those treated with hydroxychloroquine or the related chloroquine had a higher risk of dying and experiencing heart rhythm issues than patients who were not given the drugs.

The analysis showed no benefit for patients taking the drugs, which were designed to combat malaria.

That with the coughing and sneezing created by tear gas in these protests, this might have helped spread C-19. Get tested.

Ayatollah Sistani’s office urges Iraqis to take health recommendations seriously

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The office of senior Iraqi Shia cleric Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani in a statement urged people to take health recommendation seriously to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The statement referred to a new surge in coronavirus infections in Iraq and said taking precautionary measures like maintaining social distancing, wearing face masks and refusing to shake hands is necessary, al-Sumaria TV reported.

It warned that failing to observe the health protocols could result in a growing number of COVID-19 cases.

The statement underlined that it is the duty of all citizens and officials to make efforts to prevent further spread of the disease.

It also lauded the medical staff and nurses in the country for their efforts and the difficulties they are going through to help the victims.

Pres. Rouhani: Iran top Muslim country in scientific work on coronavirus

Quote

“We do not exactly know when it (coronavirus epidemic) will end, so the (health) instructions must be observed for a long time,” Rouhani added.

He also said that Iran has made such great progress in the medical sphere that many Iranian expatriates or foreigners are on waiting list to receive treatment inside Iran.

Last month, Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said the country has outperformed the most powerful countries in tackling the novel coronavirus pandemic despite financial problems.

The Health Ministry has already announced that 80 percent of the coronavirus positive cases in the country have fully recovered from the infectious disease and left the hospital.

Brazil has wiped months of data away and says it will only report daily numbers. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-52952686

OPINE: l have been wondering why "Serious or Critical" numbers hover around 53k, with a low l remember of about 47k and a high of 57k-58k. The reason l believe is because this is the global capacity for lCU beds. The US has the highest number, according to Keiser Health News at 1:1300 elderly population (less when for everybody); the Forbes in March reported US at 34+ per 100k population, Germay at 29+ and ltaIy at 12+. The rest of the World is much lower. Therefore, it is probable that there are no more beds to fill with Serious or Critical patients. Wholesale triage.

Possibly some good news. This is an announcement from a small UK medical products marketer:

Quote

On 14 April 2020, AorTech announced that RUA had been notified by its largest customer that, due to US Government (both federal and state) mandates to suspend all elective surgery in hospitals and surgical centres throughout the United States, it was temporarily unable to provide forecasts and orders for the medical devices manufactured for it by RUA. RUA has recently received a further notification from its largest customer requesting it to prepare for the production of products and that orders would resume in the near future, but reserved the right to implement further suspension of orders in the event of the impact of a second wave of COVID-19. Since receipt of this notification, RUA has now received new orders from its largest customer for delivery in August 2020.

http://uk.advfn.com/stock-market/london/aortech-AOR/share-news/AorTech-International-PLC-Update-on-Elective-Surge/82614116

Seems as if in the U.S. elective surgeries are/will be resuming. But at the same time it does show that the impact of CV19 was way beyond the elderly and those with co-morbidities.

But then again, may be not.

Not true.

At one of the WHO’s thrice-weekly press briefings Monday, Van Kerkhove noted that when health officials review cases that are initially reported to be asymptomatic, “we find out that many have really mild disease.” There are some infected people who are “truly asymptomatic,” she said, but countries that are doing detailed contact tracing are “not finding secondary transmission onward” from those cases. “It’s very rare,” she said.
