Idiots trying to start riots in Virginia, USA

I used to live in Richmond.

The article has at least one error: Richmond Antifa will not be visibly present. They have stated that they will try to be on hand to help bystanders but do not have to resources to protect counter-protestors, and most civil rights and gun safety organizations have opted to not attend, for fear of the safety of their members.

Hopefully if no violence erupts, the Nazi white supremacists and other gun kissing crazies will get bored and go home.

Lots of false propaganda has been spread, and these morons are buying it instead of looking up the laws for themselves. I've read the laws - there is no conflict with the second amendment. Skepticism seems to be a lost skill.

Hopefully nothing will happen. Duas for the safety of city residents and working people who have to be there.

I am working today don't have the day off, but it was difficult to find parking today and I wonder if it has anything to do with this. I don't work super close to the state capital building but not too far off either. Can you explain what the connection between MLK day and these 2nd amendment protesters? As far as I know, MLK was very critical of the violence the US government inflicts around the world but I'm not sure he said anything about gun rights. Why are people in this country so afraid of government taking their arms away but don't really care to address the people who control the government, I.e. private institutions that they would gladly give all power to if they shrink government the way they want to?

I think it's mainly because they have the day off from work.

As far as I know, Dr... King was not opposed to the right to keep and bear arms, though he was a pacifist. In Virginia in the past, I'm not sure about now, it wasn't MLK day, it was Lee-King Day, which celebrated (?) the Confederate general alongside the civil rights leader. The history of celebrating (?) the Confederacy might have something to do with the annual gun rights rally's date. I really don't know, but would like to.

Edit: Wikipedia says Lee-Jackson-King Day was observed in Virginia from 1984 - 2000.

l do not believe anyone was there to start a riot. What would be the point? As l understand it, a lot of the gov't officials evacuated the area over the weekend.

But what l did find interesting is the number of men who showed up in homemade body protection suits. Obviously, the protesters were expecting to be attacked.

There were social media posts from right wing, nazi, and white supremacist groups threatening to incite violence. After seven men belonging to a self-proclaimed nazi organization were arrested on their way to Virginia to commit acts of violence, the Governor declared a state of emergency and banned firearms from the demonstration area and the capitol buildings.

It seems that the crowds are dispersing now. I'm glad the out of state troublemakers followed the example of the local groups and just peacefully demonstrated and talked with their legislative representatives.

Except stupid terroristic Alex Jones - he should be arrested for conspiracy to commit murder, though hopefully none of his fanboys took the bait and it's all over now.

Who is he?

andd l forget, what is Antifa?

Alex Jones is a talk radio person who screams about right wing revolution and sells pills that allegedly make men more manly.

Antifa is short for anti-fascist. Originally I had heard that a local (to my area) Antifa group would be demonstrating against gun control alongside the rest, I saw later that they had decided to abstain. Richmond leftist groups discouraged counter-protestors from attending, but a few of their members were on site with news and updates via Twitter.

Yes. The Antifa folks in my area are opposed to gun control. Or at least some of them are. It's not a homogeneous group. They are united by hatred of fascism, but diverse in other views as far as I can tell. I don't know any of them personally, I just see them on social media.

You should be wheeled out whenever people complain about radical Muslims.

These people always complain that protesters aren't at work, so why aren't they at work? They got the day off? Why shouldn't they be fired over someone who's willing to work on that day? Why are they so lazy? Looks like they like the benefits offered by their employer, but are willing to trample on those that don't get the same when the state decides to intervene on their behalf.

Yeah, there are socialist gun advocates actually, I've seen quite a few of them on the DSA group page in Richmond.

Socialist Rifle Association and Redneck Revolt are two pro-gun socialist organizations. I don't know much about them besides that they exist. Ignorant people think "right wing" and "left wing" are absolutes and absolutely opposite on all things. The world is much more complex than that.

God bless the activists of both far right and far left.Idealistic and brave young men [ occasionally women]

My advice to them you are more alike than different

If you live in the west forget revolution and violence,  just maximize the benefit from welfare state , have LOTS of babies and live the good life.

One woman arrested for wearing a mask in public. Photos show lots of people in masks. I don't know why this one person is different.

She was released, and the police published her photo all over the internet. Hopefully she wasn't covering her face for safety from family who aggressively disagree with her views.

Virginia has on its books, like my home state, laws prohibiting face covering. They go back to the 1920s to limit Klan activities.

Yes it does. I only wonder why this one person, when so many had covered faces. They say it was really cold. Many had faces covered for warmth. The law doesn't say anything about temperature, but a live-tweeting leftist had asked a policeman about the masks and he had told her it was too cold to enforce the law. Maybe it had warmed up by the time this woman was stopped, or maybe she just walked past a different officer.

In any event, one arrest is not so bad at an event that was expected to end in a bloodbath.

lf she sues, which she should for having her put at physical risk by having her face and name plastered all over media, we will find out what the excuse was for violating here 1st Amendment Rights.

I don't know anything about their methods. I'm not part of this group nor do I personally know anyone who is. On social media they talk about providing emergency medical care and protecting the oppressed. Mainstream media says they are terrorist, but if they are, they are a "terrorist group" similar to Hezbollah. I mean, shouldn't we all be anti-fascist?

I don't know if they are different in America. But in Europe Antifa are known for violently attacked people they consider as fascists and even capitalists (while those who consider as fascists are often just people they disagree with).
