Subhan'Allah I am shocked they did this.... May he (and the other martyrs) rest in peace, and may Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) grant patience to their families.

Do any of you here think a war is about to start soon? It seems impossible to me that Iran will not respond with similar force, which would cause a domino effect of escalations.

The PBS 2200 News Hour West reported (quoting Baghdad state TV)  that this was an airstrike on the "road to the airport", that the US has yet to comment to reporters, that lRl "will certainly have" some kind of "very violent response". "No confirmation" that the US knew "he was in this convoy";  Muhandis was going to the airport to meet Soleimani when the airstrike struck; Sec of Defense today (02Jan) "warned lran" the US "could use" "pre-emptive strike" against lranian or por-lranian people;

"pre-emptive strike" is a Vietnam Era term.

"pre-emptive war" is a Bushism [No.43]

Thanks. I've always thought the euphemism is ridiculous. If you're going to attack, claim it, don't sanitize it.

I pray that war can still be avoided. My children are just the ages that they and their friends and other young people halfway around the world will be the ones to die so that evil politicians can get richer.

There can't be a war without a skilled war general.

Likely no retaliation.

There are no resources for it nor can the people of Iran tolerate it.

This strike was a means of dampening influence by proxy war of Iran.  Not to cause a war, so in all likelihood it's not going to happen.

What's expected is more Western influence on middle eastern affairs therefore more control.

2330hrsEST 02Jan20 BBC NEWS

The US is saying that Soleimani was assassinated because "he was developing plans to attack Amerikan diplomats".

Footnote: Soleimani did a lot of his diplomacy in many place over the years.

I bet they find those plans right next to Saddam's weapons of mass destruction.

But ignoring that, they justify killing a man because they think he talked about killing someone? And they can say this with straight faces?

He was a good person. His absence will cause insecurity in Middle East.

l agree this will cause "insecurity" because he was a power broker, forming alliances and building cooperation amongst groups. A lot of his 'success' was built on his honesty and courageous reputation as well as his representing lRl.

A response from Iran would escalate the already tense situation and would have domino effect in the region. But I believe Iran should take revenge. You don't stay silent to these thugs. Sadly, Iraq would be a battle ground yet again.

How does Iran respond? I think what they will do is probably get the militias to intimidate all pro-American Iraqi politicians and then have the government vote to expel US troops and use attacks against Americans if the presence persists. I don't see an attack on any bases or anything, Iran would probably be hit in retaliation and that could be devastating.

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعون

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) give him Jannah for his sacrifice in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) way. I may have some disagreement about what he did in some cases but still his intention is clear and fight the enemies of God.

Innah lilahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun!

This is truly sad news and whatever you thought about general Soleimani and general al-Muhandis of the Hashd, they were both great helpers in the fight against daesh who sought to destroy the Iraqi nation and the harams we love.

I hope the blood of the two martyrs will be enough for us Muslims to finally kick out the kafir americans out of our countries. Now only blood will pay for blood.
