Salam alaikum, I'm just wondering if I wanted to get married in the future would my dad be my Wali he's not Muslim. I've read on a few websites that a non Muslim can't be a Muslims Wali but where are the actually ruling for this?!

My understanding is that unless your father is a Muslim, he cannot be your wali. In the absence of a wali, the leader of your Muslim community or mosque can give you in marriage to the man you wish to marry.

No, a non Muslim does not have authority over a Muslim in this matter, if I remember correctly.

This is might just be one of those “outdated” ideas.. like owning slaves,  women deficient, and apostasy.
