2 rakkat or 3 or 4

It's very good to offer non obligatory salat just with the niyyah of Qurbatan illalah. You can offer to sawab to Imam e Zamana (عليه السلام) or any other Masoom(عليه السلام) or figures like Lady Zainab and Khadija (sa),Hazrat Abbas(عليه السلام) would be especially nice if it's on their birth or death anniversary.

As far as I know non wajib salats are offered in sets of 2 rakats.

If you feel like offering non wajib salats mashAllah why don't you go through Mufatih ul Jinan for special salats like salat ul ghufayla, salat ul layl, salat e jaffar tayyar, or there are special salats associated with each of our Masoomen (عليه السلام) instead of simple 2 rakats.

Salam, is it okay to just offer a 2 rakkat or 3 or 4 out of nowhere?

As long as it is not mukrah, you are okay.

Saleh other than fard, sunnah, superogratory are 4 raka except upon entering a masjid(2).

Thank you starlight, but I have a question off topic and since your a moderator I was wondering how can someone increase their reputation?

The more likes you get on your posts more you reputation points will be. So in general increase the number of posts and posts which you think the members will like and enjoy.

Having said this, don't focus on it too much. Post what you want(within rules) and whenever you feel like, just be yourself. Validation from humans doesn't matter that much lolz

salam alykum wrwb,

alhamulillah

it is good to offer such but dangerous when there's no guide.

I once stumbled upon a thread about  daily amals & looking to wear Islam in daily activities you assume that by doing them you'll

connect & it is rough out there once you establish such connections. do not think you'll be doing them but it being by His(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) mercy that you do them such that when you come across harsh conditions, He'll guide you.

be sincere

There is nothing dangerous about Salat. All of them come highly recommended by Masoomen (عليه السلام).

Wa Alaykum Salam,

You have to ask WHY you would want to offer two rakat salat "OUT OF NOWHERE".

What does this "Out of Nowhere" mean?  Do you mean doing it in a time that was not specifically performed by the Prophet (S) (doing it even though it is not within the scope of the Sunnah?).  If so, then such a prayer will not be of any benefit to you (and only God knows best).

We benefit from the prayers and from our performance of rites only insofar as the Prophet (S) performed them.  These actions spring from the very being of the Prophet (S), that being who was chosen and selected and loved by God Himself.  Your worth and the value of your efforts and actions are absolutely NOTHING unless it is somehow associated with the Prophet (S) or if it is done through his name or for the Prophet's (S) sake.  Even if you eat a date with that intention (namely that you are doing this act which in itself is valueless but contains value if an only if the Prophet (S) did so) you will benefit from it more than praying 1000000 rakats of prayer without such an intention.

Ask yourself, who is praying the two rakats?  Is it you or the Prophet (S)? and the real answer should be the Prophet (S) is praying these two rakats because only his prayer is a true prayer.  After all, isn't it the case that everything you know about God and the prayers and your religion was taught by the Prophet (S)?  So what share do you have in this affair?  Your limbs and your tongue moves only because it was meant to follow Seyyiduna Muhammad Mustafa (S).  Your tongue and limbs would not exist if not for that goal.  Each and every atom was created fro the sake of Our Master Muhammad Prophet (S).  Nothing moves in the cosmos except because of him (S) and for his (S) sake.

Even the Ahlul Bayt (S) have their high level of respect that they do ONLY because they are the family of the Prophet Muhammad (for they are from his (S) light.)  The Ahlul Bayt (عليه السلام) are of no value in and of themselves.

Allahumma Salli Ala Seyyidina Muhammad Wa Ala Alihi Wa Sahbihi Wa Sallim.
