There was a story about Imam Ali seat under a tree mediating and some people came and make comment abut Imam Ali belly getting bigger 

and Imam replay was he was connecting with the universe and he is downloading the entire cosmos into his belly and the connection was by his spine 

can someone please reference the story and if it correct ?

Perhaps before jumping the guns I would suggest everyone to google Imam Ali saying about universe. The source I am referring to comes from Arabic Islamic book very old text I read it long time ago in Islamic library in Middle East. I am sure you guys never heard of Imam Ali as removal of obstacles with story of abdullha the wood cutter. or even read about Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) practice any meditation. again I don’t remember the book name but if any of you actually read nahjul balagha you will find Imam Ali was more mystic then any Indian yogi. anyways thank you very much for you all.

@Airbender Please don't take the reactions to heart because It's very hard not to find it absurd and funny when such narrative is suggested.

For anyone's belly to grow at a noticeable rate, the connection and download speed through the spine should be very high and I'm 100 percent sure that fiber-optic broadband wasn't available at that time. So based on that fact alone, I think the story is not authentic. lol

On a serious note, there are many narrations in Islamic literature that are absolute nonsense and are referred to as 'israelites' for instance. If the story and narrative you suggested did exist in Islamic literature as you describe, it would certainly fall within that category. 

Throughout the history of Islam, its enemies both from within and outside, have been deliberately inserting false/omitted narrations and stories in order to misguide Muslims as well as tarnish Islam and weaken it.

Keep making fun my good ignorant friends it is all good. just because I used word Download that does not mean it was in the text and again if you actually read life of Imam Ali you will see examples after examples of miracles and talk about going inward and connecting with oneself. I think I made mistake by coming into this forum.

1 - Before answering this question, we must emphasize that some characteristics that others consider a defect are in fact not one. For example, it is known that Imam Ali was "al-anzan al-bateyn". Some people have interpreted this as having bladder bone or being bulging, but we generally know that having a belly fat often results from overeating. Reason why we have to look for a justification for this description. But in reality, this expression means "to have a little hair at the forehead and when we talk about Bateyn, it means to have a little stomach and not a form of obesity due to gluttony. Indeed, we know that Imam Ali (عليه السلام) consumed simple food of small quantity. [1]

A man asked the Amir al-Mu'minen about the shortness of his stature and the size of his belly and tinea , Amir al-Mu'minin replied: Allah  neither made me not tall nor short;but made me in middle that I make shorts to two halves and cut tall from  waistline but about enlargement of my belly,  In fact, the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught me a gate of science that a thousand gates were opened from it;so all (sciences) gathered in my belly that entered through my ribs and I have tinea because I used helmet too much time in war with unbelievers  .

that man has intention to humiliate Imam Ali (عليه السلام) but Imam answered to that man with same style of that man because Muawiah (la) &his propaganda  machine were using physical definition in humiliating   way to humilate Imam Ali (عليه السلام) based on narrations that was describing Imam Ali (عليه السلام) but Muawiah (la) & his propaganda system were expressing the narrations with humiliating interpretation to distract people from real meaning of narrations about Imam Ali (عليه السلام)

Ibn 'Abbas said: O man,swear to Allah  you have asked about a man who after his Messenger of Allah  is no  superior to him and he is   the brother of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the cousin of his Prophet (peace be upon him) and his successor . He is empty and abstinence from idolatry and vanity and full of knowledge. I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying: Whoever wants to be  rescued on the Day of Resurrection must carry out this abstinent , ie Ali.As you can see, the Companions understood something from these narratives other than what the people of Kharijah understood at the time.

Prophet Muhammad (pbu):That is, Ali, Allah has forgiven you, your family, your Shiites, your beloved and your beloved beloved , so know Ali that you are empty (Abzal عنزل)from shirk & full of knowledge (بطین Batin)

Imam Ali (عليه السلام) had a medium height and black eyes. he was handsome , and like the moon on the fourteenth night, it shone with beauty. His abdomen was large and his shoulders were wide and large. he had a delicate body and his neck was white, like a stiffness of silver. He had no hair in front of his head , and his beard was dense. his shoulder bone was firm, like the shoulder bone of a predator lion. His arm and wrist were unmistakably complex. It was only me who 'made fun', not anyone else. I apologise if you found the joke offensive. 

Try not to assume it's only you that has read into Imam Ali's life and miracles. 

The narrative you described in of itself is problematic. We know Imam Ali has more knowledge than anyone else in the world after the Prophet. He doesn't need the knowledge to come 'through his spine into his belly' as you described.

It's like saying Imam Ali is so strong he alone carried Baab Khaybar.

Then saying, Imam Ali is so strong, he did press ups with mount Uhud on his back. 

Imam Ali doesn't need mount Uhud press ups to be strong just let like he doesn't need the cosmos through his spine into his belly that gets larger etc 

All he needed was his unrivalled Iman and conviction and determination in the service of Allah and Allah to say: Be, and it happens. 

إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.
