Hello, I have a quick question for my Shia friends.

Do the Shia believe in the Night Journey of Muhammad to Heaven and Jerusalem? I mean, I know there is probably a diversity of opinions, but generally speaking?

I would be interested to know too, I personally believe it to be a vision and that the Masjid Al-Aqsa mentioned is not the one in Jerusalem. I also don't believe there were any mythological creatures with wings involved.

The 'sahih' Sunni hadiths give a very interesting and novel like account of the journey. It all just seems too similar to stories in other faiths to me.

Your Prophet resurrected dead bodies that had been dead since centuries. And you think him to be a 3 in 1 or a 1 in 3 Son-of-Man-God God. Why the trouble with swallowing this then? Just curious. ^^

Sorry, who did he resurrect from centuries ago?

@thegoodman81 for a Shi'a narrative you might find this link of use:

In short, yes the night journey is part of Shi'a belief but unlike some narratives that claim he physically ascended into Heaven, their narrative is that he ascended in the form of a vision, so not a dream but a divinely sent vision.

Hi Darth Vader, how's it going?
Actually, no, I don't have trouble believing that God could do something like this. I absolutely believe he empowered a donkey to speak, for example, and that's not much less far-fetched than the Night Journey.

That being said, I don't believe Muhammad was true Prophet, and so I don't believe the Night Journey actually occurred either. But again, not because it seems far-fetched or silly.

Hi, @aaaz1618. Would you say this is the standard position among Shia? I am earnestly trying to learn. Thanks!

So you believe in the existence of Prophets, in general?

Hello goodman. To be precise, I also meant to ask you that you realize that a Prophet is not a God but just a man, right? Just want to understand your religion brother.

What relevance is that to the question? You're just mocking the poster's beliefs, trying to get a reaction, it's blatantly obvious. In fact you have done nothing to answer the question in the entire thread.

...And anyway, you never did tell me who that 'some nobody from centuries ago' that Jesus, peace be upon him, was supposed to have resurrected.

Maybe if you aren't going to answer the question straight, it's best to let others do so. If this was a forum meant for people to mock Christians, then why make ShiaChat open to people of all beliefs?

You are wrong brother. thegoodman81 and myself are also conversing privately since a few weeks, why don't you ask him if he also felt offended? There is no offense intended rather only dialogue stemming from curiosity. He is understanding our religion I am understanding his.

It is unfortunate that you think I have been mocking in this thread.

Do you believe in God sent books ? Qur'an is one of them and God confirms about the night journey in the Qur'an.

Once someone asked a companion/follower of Prophet Muhammad SAWW's if he believed in the story Mohammed SAWW is telling to people about the night journey...that all of it happened in one night so the companion / follower  said that I believe in the One True God that I haven't even seen because of Mohammed SAWW...so how can I doubt about the night journey.

One should follow their religion but do not be blind. Keep your mind open...listen to your heart... Only the heart is able to differ wrong from right...only the heart has the power to lead you to a peaceful life...

Human beings have been following their ancestors faith blindly since the beginning of times...
