If your parent forbids you to do something mustahhab, can you still do it?

Salam it’s a story of Ayt Behjat (رضي الله عنه) that when he went to Hawza in young age he was interested in Irfan but his father was against it & ordered him to not do mustahab acts during Wahabi prayers & even doesn’t involve in Irfan so he obeyed his father command & when in old age that he was in top of Irfan position said I reached to this position because I obeyed my father in young age.

Now why should it be haram ? Even if it’s mustahab if you’re doing it for the sake of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) regardless of what your parents say, it’s not like He’s going to punish you for it. They can’t just possibly beat you up or something bc you refused to listen to them

You should obey your parents except when they tell you not to worship Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) or fast in Ramadan etc. By worship I mean fard prayers. If you don't pray mustahab prayers you are not punished. There are a lot of other nafil prayers. Why not do the the 2 rakaat before the 2 wajib for fajr? Or 2, 2 rakaat after the 3 wajib for maghrib? Etc etc. to be honest I agree with your parents, it's haram to harm body like this just pray witr prayer once in a while maybe but not to ruin your sleep. Remember : it's only mustahab. We have been ordered to take care of our body. That's wajib

Salat ul Layl does NOT harm the body, NEITHER DOES IT RUIN SLEEP.

Salat Ul-Layl as they say it will mess with my sleep

If sleep is the only issue they have then Salat ul layl can be prayed anytime from Isha to fajr one can do a Qadha after fajr.

An option for you would be that when you get up for Fajr namaz, instead of 2 rakats nafl for fajr offer 2 rakats with niyyah of Salat ul layl(the shafa) and then one rakat witr (don't prolong the qunoot too much) or maybe just offer the witr. Then proceed for fajr. This would take you hardly 5-7 mins extra.

Salam

If you really want to pray Salat ul Layl just do it. You do not have to listen or follow your parents if they stop you from praying. Every person's sleep gets affected if they pray. Allah will make it easy for you and it won't effect your health insha'Allah.

Just like my mum, she wouldn't let my brothers fast because it would effect their health according to her.... because she loves them too much. Or my aunt wouldn't let her daughters fast because they have to study and go to University.  it also depends on how old you are.. but I still believe that if you have it in your heart and you want to pray, just pray. Only good things will come out of it.

If you are still very young it could become a habit and would make life very easy for you. Salat ul layl is indeed very rewarding.

In ahkaam, mustahabbaat can be waived for the sake of a parent or a husband/wife (within reason). E.g a husband can disallow you to perform mustahab fasts if he feels it will affect him accessing some of his rights over you. Ofcourse, Islam is a religion of logic, reason and compassion, so there is the underlying assumption that this right will not be abused.

For the OP, let your parents know of a way you can perform the salah without interrupting your sleep hours. Sleep earlier if need be, wake up earlier for fajr. Shorten the salah. Their house, their rules.
