Firstly approach wudhu primarily from a spiritual rather than physical act.

The other sect for example and how I did it when I followed this, was to take in water from one hand, and with the other hand hold the nose and blow out to clean it.

Maybe if you are doing it like that you may be experiencing pain.

After re-learning how to do wudhu properly, I was taught to take in water and to softly/gently blow out the water, without holding onto the nose.

Maybe try it this way, if currently not doing so.

Oops... this might be the issue.. from watching so many Sunnis make wudu...

One question though, do you inhale the water or do you just push it into your nostrils with your palm?

Quick question. When rinsing the mouth, are we supposed to gargle the water (throat), or do we just swish it around in the mouth, or do we just place water in the mouth and spit it out after (I.e no swishing)?

As with how I was previously taught, was to gargle (and make those weird noises when clearing the throat)...however after learning this way, I just briefly swish around. It is practically a rinse rather than wash.
