Can Shias be homosexual?

There was a thread several days ago where people started to debate about homosexuality. One Shia brother said he was gay. He didn't seem to view it as a major sin.

I would be curious to know how many people here view it as being acceptable to be Shia and gay at the same time? Do you view it as something that should be repented of?

Some relevant quotes from the Imams (A):

Imam Ali (A) said: “Sodomy is a Greater Sin and carries punishment when a man mounts upon another man but does not penetrate. If he penetrates, it is kufr” - al-Kāfi

Huzaifa ibn Mansur says:

“I enquired regarding sodomy which is a Greater Sin from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).)”. The Imam replied:

“To press the sexual organ between the thighs in an illegal way”

I asked, “Who is the person who commits sodomy”.

Imam ((عليه السلام).) replied;

“One who has disbelieved in what Allah has revealed to his Messenger (the Holy Qur’an).”

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) was queried by Abu Basir regarding the verse:

“So when our decree came to pass, we turned them upside down and rained down upon them stones, of what has been decreed, one after another.” (Surah Hūd 11:82)

Imam ((عليه السلام).) explained:

“There is no one who leaves this world while considering sodomy Halāl, but that Allah hits him with one of the stones that had fallen on the people of Hazrat Lut ((عليه السلام).).”

Also these verses from the Qu'ran:

“And (we sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! Do you commit an indecency which anyone in the world has not done before you?”

“Most surely you come to males in lust besides females. Nay you are a prodigal people”. (Surah al-Ar’āf 7:80-81)

There are people who identify themselves as Shi'a and homosexual on here, yes.

While we can all give our viewpoints, and I imagine they would mostly be on one side rather than the other, I get the strong impression this discussion will go downhill very quickly and that a mud flinging marathon would begin.

...Of course I could be wrong and we could all have a respectful conversation completely and utterly balanced in all departments.

Yes of cause a person who is homosexual can identify as Shia. If that person commits indecent acts is a question between that person and God. At least as long as it is not done in public, but that goes for everybody. All people has their struggles, and we who are heterosexual should not believe that we go free from temptation. Uttering concerns about what goes on in other peoples bedrooms seams like backbiting to me.

As Shias we should know better than to do takfir to anyone. Let's leave that to the Wahabi/Salafis. It is up to Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ‎) to judge who is a true Muslim/Mu'min. Not anybody else.

@Staff, why do you allow threads you know you will close in a few hours? Lol

You may want to specify what is it "to be gay" in your question. The more you specify, the better people will be able to reply to you.

An interesting question is also how many Shias know or have talked to a non-normative/queer Shia (and I don't count, almost no one here has got to know me decently, without a huge set of prejudices). The idea of a gay Shia, in most cases, is based in the unconceivable mix of the cliche gay character and a Shia person. And that's ridiculous, to be honest.
