:salam:

Would talking about what someone did bad, hurt you or annoy you in his/her absence be considered as gheebah ?

Like talking with colleagues about your boss' lack of management skills, or with your wife about the bad akhlaq of that cousin, etc... ?

I mean when the defaults are here and some harm is done somehow. Not getting into defamation or free insult.

Thanks,

Yes. It would be better to observe patience(sabr) in such situations.

In Islam back biting is allowed only in the following situations

1. You are seeking redress for injustice

2.  To correct a wrongdoing.Seek help or advice for a problem/to bring someone to the right path

3. To protect another Muslim from harm and loss. E.g if person A is trying to scam person B you can warn person B about person A behind his back.

4. If a person commits and talks about his own sin openly.

5. In situations of testimony

And there a a few more but they don't apply so much to our everyday lives. Even in the above situations  'back biting' should be done with caution and only the relevant things should be discussed.

I know those, yet I feel sometimes you need to adress someone's defaults.

Like when you want to help someone.

You posted while I am still typing. Thanks, that helps indeed, it answers my point above.

I agree we do need to address the pain people give us with some one , I guess if it’s done with the intention of informing not slandering maybe it isn’t gheebah . Because everybody has to report oppression or else the oppressor doesn’t get any punishment
