Asalamu alaykum,

Imam Ali (عليه السلام) was fighting the most fiercest known warrior in Arabia, having known as a warrior being equal to 100 men. In the heat of the battle, the fierce warrior spat in Imam Ali's face, just as Imam Ali (عليه السلام) was going for the final blow. Imam Ali (عليه السلام) then stepped back, and spent a few seconds or possibly a minute, walking around and then came back and finished the warrior off.

People later on asked him why he stepped back and stopped fighting for a few moments. He replies that he wanted to do the kill sincerely for the sake of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), and not for himself at all.

This also shows a real warrior's state of mind, a warrior should always remain in his senses and shall not be driven by his wishes but his target should be upon the goals rather than on ending lives.

The biggest proof for me is the character of this great man, as well as the other 11 holy Imams. However, all that I know about their excellent character is from bits and pieces scattered throughout various sources (sermons, books, internet, from discussions). Is there a single book/series of books that talks about their high character and behavior?

Beautiful man, taught by the most beautiful himself. This is how you act when you are raised, brought up, and taught by a Prophet of God. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) bless Imam Ali (عليه السلام) and his teacher, the noble Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)

Alhamdulillah for having them as our guides and teachers.
