Foreign Ministry deplores US for blocking website of Iranian newspaper

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned the United States’ hawkish move to block and seize the official domain name of Iranian state-run newspaper "Iran".

“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the decision by the US Treasury Department to block the domain of the Iranian media, which is contrary to the universal declaration of human rights and freedom of expression,” reads the ministry’s tweet on Sunday.

Iran’ FM lashes out at Pompeo for saying US still ‘participant’ in JCPOA

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif took a swipe at US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after he claimed that Washington had not quit the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and remained a “participant state”.

Quote

"2 yrs ago, @SecPompeo and his boss declared "CEASING US participation" in JCPOA, dreaming that their "max pressure" would bring Iran to its knees. Given that policy's abject failure, he now wants to be JCPOA participant. Stop dreaming: Iranian Nation always decides its destiny,” Zarif tweeted on Monday.

The tweet came after Pompeo recently said Washington technically remained a “participant” in the deal, known as the JCPOA, in order to use a mechanism embedded within the accord to make the UN maintain an arms embargo on Tehran.

“We cannot allow the Islamic Republic of Iran to purchase conventional weapons in six months. President Obama should never have agreed to end the UN arms embargo,” Pompeo claimed. “We are prepared to exercise all of our diplomatic options to ensure the arms embargo stays in place at the UN Security Council.”

In 2018, the US left the JCPOA and returned its sanctions against Iran in defiance of the agreement’s multilateral nature and the fact that it had been ratified by the United Nations Security Council.

Imam Khamenei: Iran has key role in keeping security of Persian Gulf

Quote

In a series of tweets published on the Twitter page of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday, the Leader also said that the Persian Gulf belongs to the nations living there, and those are the ones responsible for ensuring its security.

“Iran with its long coastlines has a key role in keeping the security of this region. By God’s grace we will do our part. This is our historical, geographical and regional duty,” said one the tweets, which were posted on the occasion of the National Persian Gulf Day.

The Leader also said that a “wise and rational collective policy” in favor of the people of the region cannot be achieved while foreign forces are present in the Persian Gulf.

Imam Khamenei endorses President’s request on Justice Shares

Quote

Ayatollah Khameni issued a decree on Tuesday ordering the government to enable owners of the Justice Shares to trade their stocks in the market and reach the profits accrued on the shares during the past years.

The Justice Shares were issued in 2006 during the former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad administration. The plan started in line with the amendments made to the Article 44 of the Iranian Constitution which obligates the government to move toward economic privatization.

More than 49 million Iranians own the currently unvested shares. It is estimated that the value of the stocks owned by each shareholder has increased from an initial price tag of 10 million rials to 80 million rials ($500).

In his decree to the government, Ayatollah Khamenei regretted the fact that vesting of Justice Shares had taken so many years as the law specifies a minimum of two years as the holding period for the shares.

US imposes new sanctions on Iran amid coronavirus crisis

Quote

In a statement released on Friday, the US Treasury Department blacklisted dual Iranian and Iraqi national Amir Dianat, also known as Ameer Abdulazeez Jaafar Almthaje, and his company Taif Mining Services LLC.

The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) claimed that Dianat is involved in what it called efforts by the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to “generate revenue and smuggle weapons abroad.”

In addition to the blacklisting, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia filed criminal charges against Dianat and one of his business associates, Iranian Kamran Lajmiri, for alleged violations of sanctions and money laundering laws.

It also filed a related action alleging that “approximately $12 million is subject to forfeiture as funds involved in these crimes and as assets of a foreign terrorist organization.”

According to the complaint, Dianat and Lajmiri in 2019 conspired to purchase a petroleum tanker in a scheme involving the National Iranian Oil Company, the National Iranian Tanker Company and the IRGC’s Quds Force.

If convicted of the charges, the two men would face a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.

“These defendants purchased a crude oil tanker valued at over $10 million by illegally using the US financial system, defiantly violating US sanctions,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers said in the statement.

Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin claimed that the Iranian government continues to “prioritize the funding of international terrorist organizations over the health and well-being of the Iranian people,” adding, “The United States remains committed to working with financial institutions, non-profit organizations, and international partners to facilitate humanitarian trade and assistance to the Iranian people.”

JCPOA to die forever if expiry of arms embargo not observed: Iran's Shamkhani

Quote

He noted that the virus of sanctions is the White House’s tool for continuation of its falling hegemony.

“At which side Europe is standing? Is it going to maintain dignity and strengthen multilateralism or it wants to accept humiliation and help unilateralism?” the official asked.
Lifting arms embargo on Iran from October 2020 have been enshrined by the JCPOA took effect from January 2015.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has recently claimed that the US is still a participant to UNSC Resolution 2231 and can request an extension of Iran’s arms embargo based on the Article 11 of the Resolution.

With its unilateral exit from Iran nuclear deal two years ago, the United States violated its commitments under the 2015 multilateral accord and a subsequent UNSC Resolution 2231 as well.

Russia, China, as two other signatories to Iran nuclear deal, as well as some European countries and Iran have stressed that the US claim is a misconception of the Resolution. The reiterate that Washington is no longer a party to Iran nuclear deal as it has unilaterally withdrawn from the accord.

Russia offers solidarity with Iran against US inhumane sanctions

Quote

In his letter, Lavrov congratulated Iranians on the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan, saying we express solidarity with Iran with regard to opposition against US’ anti-human approach to develop illegal and unilateral sanctions against Iran which has been seriously damaged by the spread of coronavirus.

Such a principled approach has been stressed by President Hassan Rouhani and Russian President Vladimir Putin in their phone call on April 21, he added.

Russia always reminds the illegal nature of US’ unilateral sanctions against Iran, he noted.

We always urge the US to lift these sanctions and not to create roadblock for fighting coronavirus, Lavrov reiterated.

We also call on the West Europe not to be influenced by Washington’s threats and to continue cooperation with Iranian partners, Russian top diplomat said.

Constant and consonant diplomacy with favorable countries have clear result. UN chief wanted the leaders of G20 in his message to remove their sanctions on countries fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic, the letter reads.

Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, had some criticism from the aspect of safeguarding human rights, it added.

US unilateralism should be terminated: FM Spokesman

Quote

Abbas Mousavi, while releasing an infographic on the withdrawal of the United States from international treaties, wrote that Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is neither the first nor the last multilateral achievement from which Trump withdrew. The US regime seeks to secure its short-term benefits at the expense of countries' long-term prosperity. This regime must end its discredited unilateralism.

The US has circulated a draft UN resolution that would indefinitely extend a UN arms embargo on Iran set to be expired in October, US officials and UN diplomats said on Tuesday.

The move will almost certainly spark opposition from Russia, which has made no secret of its desire to resume conventional weapons sales to Tehran, according to the Associated Press.

US seeks to solace Saudis after Patriot pullout announcement

Quote

The White House announced that US President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman spoke by phone on Friday, reaffirming “the strong United States-Saudi defense partnership”.

White House spokesman Judd Deere said that the two also discussed “other critical regional and bilateral issues” and “agreed on the importance of stability in global energy markets”.

The statement did not mention the Patriot missiles and the White House declined further comment, according to Reuters.

The telephone call between Trump and Salman came after US media announced the Patriot withdrawal – alongside the pullback of two US fighter jet squadrons - on Thursday.

The abrupt announcement led to much speculation regarding the status of US-Saudi ties.

Speaking to CNBC on Friday, US Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook sought to reject claims that the measure signaled an abandonment of Riyadh.

“Our mission is not at all changed. We’re standing with our partners and our allies in the region. We’re doing everything we can to protect American interests,” he said.

Hook stressed that Washington still views Iran as “a threat” and will continue its regional measures against Tehran.

“Our troop levels go up and down depending on the circumstances, but the mission set is the same. Our mission is not at all changed,” he said.

Many US observers have consequently suggested that the recently announced Patriot withdrawal marks a reversal of Washington’s large military buildup against Iran.

Speaking on Friday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tried to downplay the measure as a “normal rotation of forces”.

“Those Patriot batteries had been in place for some time. Those troops needed to get back,” Pompeo said.

The withdrawal has prompted much speculation among observers regarding the reasons behind the sudden withdrawal announcement.

In an article published on Thursday, Responsible Statecraft, a US-based think tank, highlighted the confusing nature of the decision given the Trump Administration’s hawkish policies towards Iran.

“While the military characterized the move as part of a planned withdrawal that reflects the view that Iran now poses less of a threat, the news has prompted debate over the timing of the decision,” it wrote.

“To suddenly acknowledge that the Islamic Republic is less of a threat than it was previously portrayed to be appears to undermine the case that hawks like Pompeo and Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook have made,” it added......

Brian Hook threatens to trigger return of UN sanctions on Iran

In line with Washington's hawkish policies, US special envoy for Iran, Brian Hook, has publicly threatened to trigger a return of all United Nations sanctions on the Islamic Republic if the UN Security Council does not extend an arms embargo on Tehran that is due to expire in October under the 2015 nuclear deal.

May 14, 2020 - 4:58 PM News Code : 1037032 Source : Mehr

Quote

in an article published on the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Hook claimed that “one way or another” Washington would ensure the arms embargo remains. He said the United States has drafted a Security Council resolution and “will press ahead with diplomacy and build support.”

“If American diplomacy is frustrated by a veto, however, the US retains the right to renew the arms embargo by other means,” Hook wrote, claiming the ability of a party to the Iran nuclear deal to trigger a so-called snapback of all UN sanctions on Iran, which includes the arms embargo.

On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reacted to the US officials' baseless claims and accusations about JCPOA and UN Resolution 2231, noting that JCPOA is none of US' or Brian Hook's business since the Americans have pulled out of the deal.

The "abhorance" towards the USA in Central and Western Asia is local and regionall, but otherwise the USA has "no credibility" since the early 90s; especially since Clinton did nothing to "change"; Bush '42 did not know he was lied to for nealry four years, Obuma was a general 'do nothing' and Trump is an indeterminant.

The slow process of US "out" is an arduous.

Please note that Rouhani’s party of reformists effectively controls both the Iranian foreign ministry and the Supreme National Security Council. There are many indications that the reformist elements made a deal with the West, Russia, and China, with the participation of Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. According to this deal, Syria’s Assad would be replaced by an interim government that would include the participation of Turkey-backed militants, sidelining the influence of Hezbollah and Iran. This is part of the broader rapprochement between Russia, Turkey, and Israel, with Saudi Arabia tacitly lending assent to the deal. Additionally, in return for allowing the nomination of Prime Minister al-Kadhimi in Iraq, certain sanctions on Iranian entities would be lifted, and the U.S. would remove its Patriot defences from some facilities in the KSA. In return, Russia and China could send their own technical assistance to Iraq, so long as Iran is excluded from the region. Al-Kadhimi is known for his close ties to Western intelligence agencies and the Pentagon, which would effectively neutralise the PMUs and their allies. Additionally, the rapprochement between the U.S., India, and Pakistan allows the Taliban and ISIS to exert more influence in Afghanistan at the expense of Iran. All in all, the trends, along with the annexation of the Golan Heights and Jordan Valley, have “checkmated” Iran across the MENA and its adjourning environs.

In a phone call with Swiss President;

Pres. Rouhani: Switzerland should play more effective role towards US illegal actions

Quote

Welcoming Switzerland's move to set up a financial mechanism, Dr Rouhani stressed the need to make the financial mechanism more active, adding, "Creating this mechanism can be very effective in this difficult situation, and we expect this financial mechanism to become more active and Iran's financial resources in some countries be processed through this route”.

In another part of the phone call, the President stressed the importance of saving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an international agreement, adding, "It is imperative that the European Union, especially the three European countries, take the necessary steps to strike a balance in living up to commitments under the JCPOA, and Switzerland can help strengthen its foundation”.

@Ashvazdanghe

There are already numerous indications that the long-simmering fissures between the pro-Western “reformist” bloc (Rouhani)/EU/Israel/GCC/Putin and the Supreme Leader/IRGC/Assad/Hezbollah are coming to a head. The former constellation clearly wants Assad to leave power, facilitate the de facto partition or federalisation of Syria via a new constitution, and eliminate anti-imperialist movements for self-determination from the MENA, including the Palestinians’, Ansar Allah’s, and Iran’s. The latter, of course, hold to exactly the opposite position(s), but are in a weak position politically and economically, given that the Western-aligned bloc has far more resources, including black-budget technology such as race-specific bioweapons, weather modification, earthquake/tsunami weapons, HAARP, 5G, etc., all backed up by unlimited fiat money, which thrives on artificial “controlled chaos,” including engineered wars and economic crashes.

The West is acting boldly and confidently because it knows it has the upper hand, hence the continued buildup of military forces in the MENA. The West sees that Iran is in no position to win a military conflict and is internally divided, owing to Western cultural and ideological influence, along with the penetration of “reformists.” The West sees the “Resistance” as weak. The only reason why the West has not launched all-out war against Iran yet is because it still holds considerable influence on Iranian domestic politics vis-à-vis the forces I have previously mentioned. So the absence of World War III (yet) is not necessarily a positive sign from the Iranian point of view. The West also sees that it is killing off the “Resistance” left and right, especially in Iraq, without provoking a response by the PMUs, Hezbollah, et al., since those groups are ultimately conditioned by Iran’s support, which is stymied by the “reformists” in power.

The West also sees that Iranian youth are even more Westernised than in 1979 and are leaving Islam in droves, being comfort- and pleasure-seeking. The West also probably considers Imam Khamenei somewhat less of a hardliner than the late Imam Khomeini was and thus is using this as further leverage vis-à-vis the “reformists,” especially neoliberal economics and privatisation, along with satellite-based propaganda.

Khaled Al-Aboud, an MP from the southern Daraa governorate who holds the role of secretary and is closely associated with the security services, took to Facebook last week and threatened to launch a war against Russian forces under President Vladimir Putin in Syria starting from the coast in the country’s south.

If Assad wanted it, Putin would have ended, and not just in Syria but in the region and the world, and the name ‘Putin’ would have been erased from Russian history forever,” the post read. (Interestingly, some hardline factions in Syria consider Assad to be too deferential to Russia, Turkey, and Israel, and argue for a more forthright and pro-Iranian policy against foreign occupiers. – ed.)

Al-Aboud continued by defending the presence of the Iranian militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) in Syria, as well as their powerful Lebanon-based proxy militia Hezbollah, saying that he considers them to have the greatest role in protecting the Assad regime. He added that relations with Iran hold precedence over relations with Russia.

The attack comes after Russian media called Assad “weak” and the former envoy to Syria criticised Assad’s actions throughout the past month, saying that his regime has become a burden for Russia to support. They have also been questioning Assad’s very credibility to rule after the ongoing nine-year-long Syrian civil war, the rampant crime subsequently taking place throughout the country, and the lack of reforms.

MPs called on Al-Aboud to delete the post, reportedly saying that they considered it a “joke” and “nonsense” from such a senior member of the Assad regime. The official, however, refused and remained firm on his claim that it represents his own opinion rather than that of the regime.

Syrian MP threatens war against Russia’s Putin

Quote

The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) expects that Russia, Turkey and Iran (meaning Rouhani and the “reformists” – ed.) will reach a consensus to remove the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar Al-Assad, and establish a ceasefire in exchange for forming a transitional government that includes the opposition, members of the regime and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The RIAC, which is known to be close to the decision-makers in the Russian government, said in a report that a Russian organisation named the Foundation for the Protection of National Values, affiliated with the security services and the office of President Vladimir Putin, has been conducting an opinion poll in Syria.

As a result, Moscow is working on a combination of scenarios including one that sees forces present in Syria accepting each other’s scope of influence. As a result, Syria would remain divided into a region protected by Tehran and Moscow, the opposition region supported by Turkey, and the East Euphrates supported by Washington and the SDF.

Report: Russia, Turkey, Iran agree to remove Syria’s Assad

Quote

Two, integral to the above, stabilisation of Syria demands repair and reconstruction of the economy requiring massive financial investments, which Russia has no capacity to undertake. But the petrodollar states of the Persian Gulf are in a position to help and some of them, especially the UAE, are normalising their relations with Damascus.  (Clearly, the GCC is doing so in coordination with Israeli, Russian, and Turkish pressure so as to wean Assad from Iran and Hezbollah. – ed.)

Now, at a presentation on Tuesday in the Hudson Institute, the conservative think tank in Washington, the US special envoy for Syria James Jeffrey openly bragged that his mission is principally focused on bleeding the Russian forces and evicting them from the region. (Bragging is not the type of behaviour one would expect from a representative of a supposedly “defeated” superpower, but rather a confident, arrogant, bullying one that knows he has the upper hand. – ed.)

Jeffrey said, “Our military presence, while small, is important for overall calculations. So we urge the Congress, the American people, the president to keep these forces on, but again this isn’t Afghanistan, this isn’t Vietnam, this isn’t a quagmire… My job is to make it a quagmire for the Russians.”

Jeffrey took note that the Russian military has been successful in Syria, but argued that “they don’t have a political way out of their problems” with Assad. In some previous remarks, Jeffrey was also on record that the US aims to “make it very difficult” for Russia to help the Syrian government achieve a military victory. Jeffrey has been insisting that “Assad must go.” (Jeffries knows that Putin is on good terms with the Israelis and has always been desperate to be “accepted” by the Western club. – ed.)

Such provocative remarks and taunts, taken together, must be ringing alarm bells in Moscow. On the one hand, Turkey and the US are blocking a total military victory in Syria while on the other hand, Assad will not settle for anything less than total victory and Iran sees Syria as part of the “axis of resistance” against the US and Israel.

Simply put, Russia has gambled and lost: in the final analysis, the US and its European allies refuse to accept the prospect of Assad remaining in power (and by occupying the country’s resource-rich regions have made sure that any victory by Assad in Syria is pyrrhic, that is, Assad has effectively lost the war – ed.).

Russia makes a botch of its Syrian “alliance”

Iran protests US threat against sailors, tankers

Quote

The US measure is against international law, Mohammad Rastad said at an online video call with Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Kitack Lim.

Rastad called on IMO to remind the US officials that their statements are total disregard of the International Law of the Sea.

Although all international communities stress the need to prepare the ground for facilitating global trade and providing fundamental needs in the current critical conditions [due to coronavirus pandemic], Iran is still under the maximum pressure from the United States, said Rastad expressing Iran's protest against such situation.

As he said, the US measures have direct [negative] effect on maritime security worldwide.

Referring to the arrival of five Iranian oil tankers in the Venezuela port to help the friendly nation meet its fuel shortage after the US sanctions against the country, Rastad said Iran's activities have been completely legitimate and based on international regulations.

IMO secretary general, for his part, said he will review the case, although the organization has political limitations.

Lim, further, appreciated measures taken by Iran's PMO since the Dec 2019 outbreak of coronavirus.

He called on Iran for continuing its positive maritime measures in order to be turned into a model for other IMO member countries.

Formed in 1948, IMO with its 174 member countries is responsible for regulating affairs related to shipping.

US better address internal problems instead of preaching others: FM Spokesman

Quote

"Some dont't think #BlackLivesMatter. To those of us who do: it is long overdue for the entire world to wage war against racism. Time for a #WorldAgainstRacism," Zarif wrote on his Twitter account late on Saturday.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman tweeted that this is the same thing that Foreign Minister Zarif told US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Slavin had written below a Twitter message from Zarif to Pompeo calling for an end to discrimination against blacks who "first build your country. We are rebuilding our country."

Mousavi said in response to Slavin that look at the pictures. Surely, you have understood. But you are so accustomed to preaching to others that it is unpleasant for you to be reminded by someone that you should not be so arrogant as to advise Iran. You know more about the US.

World human rights bodies should not be silent toward Floyd's murder: Iranian official

Quote

The Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights said that the world human rights organizations should react toward the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black American who died after being pinned down by a white US police officer.

Ali Baqeri-Kani said on Saturday night that according to the statistics some 3 American citizens are killed by the police on a daily basis.

Referring to the fact that 60 percent of those who have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Chicago have been black people, the official noted that the most important reason behind the black people's death toll in the US is the racist structure which has been institutionalized in all ruling bodies of the country.

Iran's senior human rights official went on to say that now it has been revealed to the world that the US threat is not just limited and it is not the mere result of US officials' adventurism but rather it is the institutionalized intellectual foundation within US ruling system.

He also highlighted that the spread of such an intellectual foundation should be stopped.

New Iranian Parliament to continue support for resistance front: Qalibaf

Quote

"Our strategy to confront the terrorist US entails completion of the chain of revenge for the blood of martyr Soleimani; something that started with the unprecedented attack against Ein Al-Assad base and continued by shattering the hollow awe of the US after it failed to respond to the Islamic Republic's move and will complete with the full expulsion of the US terrorist army from the region," Qalibaf said.

Prisoner swap not result of negotiation: Iran's Shamkhani

In a tweet on Friday, he wrote, “Trump is in such a bad situation due to his terrible COVID-19 management and public protests that his team has no choice but to produce and portray false success for him.”

“Prisoner swap has not been the result of negotiation and no dialogue will be held in the future,” he added.

It should be noted that Trump reacted to the release of Michael White in a tweet on June 5 and wrote, “So great to have Michael home. Just arrived. Very exciting. Thank you to Iran. Don’t wait until after U.S. Election to make the Big deal. I’m going to win. You’ll make a better deal now!”

US president claimed that by withdrawing from the Nuclear Deal and pursuing a policy known as the “maximum pressure campaign” he would persuade Iran to come to the negotiating table to reach a “better agreement”.

Addressing American people;

Iran: World has got heard your outcry over state oppression

Quote

Speaking in his weekly presser, the ministry’s spokesperson Abbas Mousavi read a message in English to the American people, government, and police regarding the recent unrest in the country.

First addressing the American people, he said “The world has got heard your outcry over the state oppression.”

“The world is standing with you,” he said, adding, “The American regime is pursuing violence and bullying at home and abroad.”

“We are greatly regretful to see, along with people across the world, the violent scenes the US police have recently unfolded. We deeply regret to see the American people, who peacefully seek respect and no more violence, are suppressed indiscriminately and met with utmost violence.”

Then, addressing the American officials and police, the spokesperson said “Stop violence against your people and let them breathe,” referring to the last words of George Floyd and one of the main slogans of protests in the US.
