Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Issuing a statement Iranian Foreign Ministry has asked Iranian citizens particularly Iranian elites and scientists not to travel to the US even for attending scientific conferences.

The statement asks Iranians to seriously avoid traveling to the US even despite having a visa.

The US delusive political and security excuses, cruel unilateral rules against Iranians especially against Iranian elites, long term arbitrary arrests and keeping detainees in an inhuman condition all have been named as reasons by the ministry to ask Iranians to avoid traveling to the US.

Back in October last year, Soleimani, 49, left Iran on sabbatical last year but was arrested upon arrival in Chicago and transferred to a prison in Atlanta, Georgia for unspecified reasons.

Iran to send sanctions to cemetery of history: IRGC chief

The Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami has said the sanctions against the country will be lifted by the Iranian people, who will send the sanctions to the cemetery of history.

He further noted, "The enemy is waging a fully-fledged war across many fronts. We have faced the full force of the enemy in this all-out war for the past 40 years. Islam is on the path of a rising power while the arrogant powers are steadily declining. For 40 years, the Islamic world has been at the center of direct and indirect invasions by evil powers."

According to Salami, today's economic war is one example of this all-out war. The enemy seeks to make Iran a poor country by blocking our access to advanced science and technology and undermining the country in the field of construction. But the Iranian people are artfully turning threats into opportunities. It is a great gift for us to have an enemy.

Major General Salami stated that "From within the blockade we have achieved remarkable advances in all areas, including energy, nanotechnology, biotechnology, aerospace science, cyberspace, and medicine. We have advanced, thanks to the embargoes and sanctions of the enemy."

Hamas says seeking to further deepen ties with Iran

The Political Bureau Chief of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement has said the movement seeks to further deepen its ties with Iran and is not interested in talks with the US, despite Washington’s request.

Ismail Haniyeh made the comments during a press conference in the Turkish capital of Istanbul after entering the country last week, The London-based and Arabic-language newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi reported on Friday.

The trip marks Haniyah’s first trip outside Gaza ever since he took over his current post in 2017. Egyptian authorities, who control Gaza’s Rafah crossing, had not allowed Haniyeh to exit Gaza.

During the press conference, Haniyeh said that no “communication channels” exist between the movement and the Trump administration despite numerous American attempts to contact Hamas.

The political bureau chief added that given current circumstances related to the so-called “deal of the century” and the current US administration, talks were currently not possible between the two sides.

Also during the briefing, Haniyeh expressed gratitude for the support of countries like Turkey, Qatar and Iran towards Gaza and the resistance movement.

Haniyeh also said that Hamas is seeking to renew warm ties with Damascus by developing mechanisms for negotiations between the two sides, despite currently having no ties with the Syrian government.

Iran condemns US ballistic missile test

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi slammed the recent ballistic missile test by the United States which was previously prohibited under the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).

The US Defense Department has tested a medium-range ballistic missile, the second test in four months of an offensive missile that would have been banned under the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) that Washington exited in August. The Pentagon said in a statement on Thursday that the test took place earlier in the day from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Los Angeles, California, and the missile flew for more than 310 miles (500 km).

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman also highlighted that the UNSC resolution 2231 has not banned Iran from testing conventional missiles, describing some countries’ remarks on the issue as ‘interventionist’.

Released Iranian professor Soleimani hospitalized for heart attack

Massoud Soleimani, a renowned Iranian scientist who had been detained by the FBI for 13 months and was released early December, was hospitalized for heart problems in Tehran on Sunday.

Massoud Soleimani, a renowned Iranian scientist who had been detained by the FBI for 13 months and was released early December, was hospitalized for heart problems in Tehran on Sunday.

Soleimani was due to participate in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday but he had a heart attack on his way to the venue of the conference on Sunday morning and was taken to the Tehran Heart Center immediately.

Medical authorities at the THC said in a phone contact that Soleimani is in good health conditions now and receiving necessary treatments.

Professor Soleimani arrived at Tehran Mehrabad airport on December 7 after he was released by the US in a prisoner swap. He was welcomed by his family members and Iranian officials upon his arrival.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif accompanied the released scientist from Zurich where the swap took place.

The Iranian foreign minister said in a tweet earlier in the day that the top scholar, along with Xiyue Wang — a Chinese-born US citizen who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for espionage in Iran in 2017 — had been delivered to the Swiss officials and would “be joining their families shortly”.

Soleimani arrived in the US on October, 22, 2018 with a visa issued upon an invitation by the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to lead a research program on the treatment of stroke patients.

He was, however, arrested by the FBI upon arrival at the Chicago airport. His visa was canceled and he was transferred to a jail in Atlanta, Georgia.

His family had several times voiced worries about Soleimani’s “poor” mental and physical condition in jail, saying he is suffering from chronic irritable bowel syndrome, has lost 15 kilograms and suffers from severe vision loss.

Soleimani’s family condemned the US government's hostile act.

Fathollahi added that Soleimani is a distinguished professor who has been ranked among the top 1% scientists in the world.

Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said the Asian countries at a meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Turkey have acknowledged Iran’s role in ensuring regional security.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tehran after taking part in the 12th Plenary Meeting of APA in Antalya, Larijani said the assembly is constantly developing, given Asia’s role and future.

“Asian countries believe that sustainable security in the region depends on cooperation with Iran,” the speaker added.

He also noted that one of the main issues mooted in the APA meeting was the growing need for multilateralism in the contemporary world.

“The main subject of the conference was convergence among the Asian countries,” Larijani said, adding, “The (APA) member states disagree about the US move to ignore Iran, and assert in various forms that they must have close security and economic relations with Iran.”

Heading a parliamentary delegation, Larijani visited Turkey’s Antalya for the 12th APA Plenary.

The assembly has been created as a forum to exchange views, ideas and experiences for developing common strategies and promoting peace in Asia and the world.

The APA is comprised of the Plenary, the Executive Council, Bureau of the Assembly, the Committees, and the Secretariat.

Judiciary Chief asks Int'l community to act against US ban on medical supplies to Iran

Iran's Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Rayeesi called on the international community to take action against the US sanctions which prevent imports of the Iranian patients' much needed medication.

He described the US sanctions as clear instance of "economic terrorism and crime against humanity", saying, "The international community should be vigilant and know that the US violates the nations' rights wherever it can and therefore, real action is needed against the US impudence."

In relevant remarks in November, Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) Mohammed Baqer Nobakht lashed out at Washington’s economic terrorism against his country, reminding that Tehran is facing hardships to import needed food and medication at the same time that it is banned from selling oil.

Also, early in December, Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) and Deputy Health Minister Mohammadreza Shanehsaz said that Washington's sanctions and the recent warning issued by the US Treasury Department was meant to be a coup against the Iranian patients, particularly those with special needs.

"They have declared in the letter that they will provide a special line to supply drugs and medical equipment but they use policing methods to threaten the pharmaceutical companies that in case of providing Iran with medicine and medical equipment, they will not be allowed to export to the EU and the US," Shanehsaz told FNA.
He added that the US measures have created problems for Iran in supplying drugs to the special patients.

Iran: 'Fiendish' Pompeo doesn't fit mold of a foreign minister

https://en.abna24.com/news//Iran-fiendish-pompeo-doesnt-fit-mold-of-a-foreign-minister_995206.html

December 20, 2019 - 8:49 PM News Code : 995206 Source : Pars TodayLink:

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi says US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo does not fit for his office because he lacks the typical features of a foreign minister.

ABNA: "Pompeo, who came to the US Department of State from a hellish, deceitful, putschist and torturer organization and brought his fiendish ideas to the field of diplomacy which is a civilized domain, does not fit the mold of a foreign minister and has no standing in this field," Mousavi said, Press TV reported.

Pompeo was formerly the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from January 2017 to April 2018. He is on record to have told the audience at Texas A&M University in April that as the CIA director, "we lied, we cheated, we stole."

"Foreign ministers are typically the harbingers of peace, reconciliation, dialogue and respect, while Mr.. Pompeo is the megaphone for bullying, deceit, humiliation and insult with the language of anger, aggression, ignorance and extremism," Mousavi said.

His remarks came in response to Pompeo's announcement of new illegal sanctions against Iran on Thursday and claiming at the same time that “the United States has stood, and will stand under President Trump, for the Iranian people."

Mousavi said, "They will get nowhere with such methods much like what they have presented to the people and elite of the US and the world has been nothing but an inefficient, delusive, chaotic and static bullying diplomacy and foreign policy of bullying."

Pres. Rouhani: US’ illegal sanctions transient; countries want close ties with Iran

https://en.abna24.com/news//pres-rouhani-us’-illegal-sanctions-transient-countries-want-close-ties-with-iran_994576.html

Speaking on Tuesday morning at Mehrabad International Airport, Dr.. Rouhani said, "On the first leg of the visit, which is taking place at the official invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohammed, the multilateral relations in the World of Islam will mainly be discussed”.

The president added, "At the Kuala Lumpur summit, important countries in the World of Islam are attending the summit. Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Qatar, Malaysia and Indonesia are among the leaders at the summit”.

Dr.. Rouhani continued, "The World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) Resolution was adopted twice, and this year the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) Initiative was put forward at the UN”.

“We believe that regional issues will only be resolved through dialogue. Therefore, this is an important new step for the Muslim world with the attendance of very important and influential countries in the Muslim world that we know some of them are progressing in terms of military and energy. Overall, we attach great importance to this summit”.

The President referred to Iran-Japan relations and said, "During the six years after the government has taken office, relations between the two countries, especially during Mr.. Abe's premiership, have developed”.

“I have met with the Prime Minister of Japan in all my visits to New York. He also came to Tehran in June of this year and had meetings with the Supreme Leader and I,” said Rouhani.

"This is the 90th anniversary of political relations between Iran and Japan," Dr.. Rouhani said, adding, "After the revolution in Iran, Japan has had good and important economic activities and investments. Right now we are having close and good talks on environmental issues. If we see a decline in relations today, this decline in temporary due to US pressure and illegal sanctions”.

"The move and the sanctions will be transient and all countries around the world want to have good, close relations with Iran, especially those countries that have traditionally had good relations with us," the president said.

Dr.. Rouhani said that the visit to Tokyo was aimed at facilitating bilateral relations and discussing important issues between the two countries.

The President added, "Our visit to Japan is a bilateral one, and the visit to Malaysia is a multilateral one with the World of Islam, and I hope that both visits bring good results for all of these countries, especially for our beloved Iran".

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations has severely censured the United States’ illegal sanctions against ordinary people as well as different sectors of the Iranian economy, including oil and banking, arguing that the measures are negatively affecting the daily lives of millions of Iranians.

“By any measure, the US sanctions are illegitimate, immoral, inhumane and cruel. It is a shame that the US bullying has resulted in discontinuation of export of certain medicines to Iran, causing nightmare for some patients,” Takht-Ravanchi said, arguing that a European pharmaceutical company has stopped exporting special bandages required for people suffering from a rare skin condition known as epidermolysis bullosa (EB) to Iran due to the restrictions.

Often known as butterfly children because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly, EB patients need special care. Even mild frictions or bumps cause severe blistering of the skin which is very painful.

They often have difficulty with their daily activities, such as walking, eating and even breathing, but without proper protective bandages, their agony would be heartbreaking.

The Iranian UN envoy said in his speech that the US strategy of exerting "maximum pressure" on Tehran are tantamount to economic terrorism, and is claiming the lives of innocent people.

“Unilateral implementation of the JCPOA is not sustainable. The deal needs more than one willing and able party to be fully implemented.

“Iran has ceased performing its commitments in part in accordance with paragraphs 26 and 36 of the JCPOA. To give room for diplomacy, a step by step approach with two months’ intervals has been designed,” he said.

“Iran’s steps are reversible, but the damages inflicted upon Iran and the Iranian people due to illegal sanctions are not reversible at all,” Takht-Ravanchi highlighted.

“Therefore, those who have been involved in designing, advocating and executing these sanctions must be held accountable,” the diplomat pointed out.

President Rouhani in Tokyo, urges Japan to help rein in US

https://en.abna24.com/news//president-rouhani-in-tokyo-urges-japan-to-help-rein-in-us_995192.html

President Rouhani in Tokyo, urges Japan to help rein in US

President Hassan Rouhani has paid a landmark visit to Japan, calling on the country to help confront the United States' bid to wreck the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.

ABNA: According to Press TV, Rouhani became the first Iranian president to visit Japan since 2000 when he landed in Tokyo Friday, his overnight stay seen as the international outreach to the important West Asian country despite US efforts to isolate it.

The President inspected a guard of honor along with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the latter's central Tokyo office before summit talks and a dinner scheduled to last into Friday evening.

Despite being a military ally of the US, Japan has traditionally maintained friendly relations with Iran as a major source of energy. In 2017, Iran supplied 5.2 percent of Japan’s crude oil imports.

Japan also relies on the West Asia for nearly 90% of its oil needs, but tensions have risen to new highs amid US deployment of new troops and military assets to the Persian Gulf.

“The nuclear deal is an extremely important agreement, and we strongly condemn the US withdrawal, which was one-sided and irrational,” Rouhani said in the meeting with Abe on Friday.

“We hope that Japan and other countries in the world will make efforts toward maintaining the agreement,” the Iranian president added.

President Rouhani has said that purpose of his visit to Japan is to discuss the security of West Asia and calming tensions in the Persian Gulf.

Abe plans to dispatch a Self-Defense Force destroyer and patrol plane to West Asia. He is expected to explain the dispatch plan to Rouhani to seek a green light from Iran for the operation, Japan Times said.

"Japan would like to do its utmost to ease tensions and stabilize the situation in West Asia," Abe told Rouhani Friday.

The Japanese prime minister, instead, wants Iran to remain committed to the JCPOA despite the US withdrawal.

“I strongly expect that Iran will fully comply with the nuclear agreement and play a constructive role for peace and stability in the region,” Abe said.

Abe visited Iran in June, but as he sat for talks with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei two tankers — one of them operated by a Japanese firm — came under attack in the Gulf of Oman, in what many observers saw an attempt to scuttle the effort.

Nevertheless, Tehran is interested in preserving its friendly relations with Tokyo and wants the Asian powerhouse to keep them independent from American pressure.

On Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Japanese reporters that Iran now hopes "the strong bilateral relationship” between Japan and Iran "will be able to overcome pressure” from the United States.

Iran deems US economic terrorism as manifestation of global tyranny: Envoy

Iran's Representative at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly said that the economic terrorism practiced by the US against Iran is sheer manifestation of tyranny at the international level and said that Washington and advocated of the UN's anti-Iran human rights statement benefit from the UN and its tools to exert maximum pressure on Iranians.

"The issue of human rights is just another chapter in the blueprint of what is sinisterly dubbed as the 'maximum pressure policy' against Iranians, a codename for 'regime change'," Mohammed Hassaninejad said on Wednesday, addressing a UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

The full text of Iranian envoy's speech is as follows:

Mr.. President,

I am delivering this statement in relation to the draft resolution II as contained in document A/74/399/Add.3 on the so-called situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

IRGC rejects rumors about top commander’s martyrdom

Spokesman for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) General Ramezan Sharif dismissed as a lie recent rumors that Commander of IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh has been martyred in an Israeli missile attack on Syria.

“As has been repeatedly stated, the enemies of the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation pursue their empty dreams and evil ambitions in falsehood and rampant propaganda through spreading false and baseless news,” General Sharif said in a statement on Monday night.

“Commander Hajizadeh is in full health and carrying out his missions,” the IRGC spokesman added.

He further said “the public opinion’s inattention” to such rumors proves that the enemies’ moves to spread lies have become “threadbare”.

In a recent report, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that probably three people of Iranian nationality were killed in an Israeli missile attack on Sunday night that hit the suburb of Aqraba and the nearby Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood.

He said that “Israel cannot continue its unlawful aggression in the region with impunity.”

Velayati further dismissed as “propaganda” anti-Iran remarks made by Israeli officials, saying, “Tel Aviv is powerless and cannot carry out its threats against Iran.”

Enemies fail to fight Iranian youth who follow martyrs: General Safavi

Enemies fail to fight Iranian youth who follow martyrs: General Safavi

A senior military aid and advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said Iran is a divine country and enemies are unable to fight against the Iranian youth who follow the way of martyrs.

Major General Seyyed Yahya Safavi made the remarks on Thursday in the ceremony of the commemoration of 1500 martyrs of Hurmuzgan Province, south of Iran, during the 8-year Iraqi imposed-war against Iran.

General Safavi referred to the Israeli and US regimes' support for the terrorist groups, the most notorious of which ISIS, saying that the regimes set the terrorists against the Iraqi and Syrian nations, killing them for 7 years.

But when the Syrian and Iraqi nations and governments asked for Iran's help, he continued, "the Iranians went there and trained them and finally defeated the ISIS and rescued Syria and Iraq; they learned the resistance model from Iran's Islamic resistance and its Leader."

General Safavi again pointed out to the 8-year imposed-war teachings and said that they are useful too against the current enemy's economic war imposed upon the country.

He noted that with the very spirit of hard-working and unity and obedience to the Leader, the Iranian nation and government must resist against the economic war to gain victory.

He asserted that the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is a non-second one among the world's leaders, who is a farsighted and kind man with an influential word, a divine gift for whom all must be thankful of God.

Tehran's Friday Prayers leader warns officials against joining FATF

Tehran's Friday Prayers leader warns officials against joining FATF

Tehran's provisional Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Kazem Sedighi warned senior officials against the negative consequences of endorsement and implementation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.

Addressing a large gathering of Tehraners during Friday prayers sermon today, Ayatollah Sedighi called on the government to rely on the internal resources instead of foreign countries in face of an economic war waged against the country.

The senior cleric warned that the enemies of the Islamic Republic are always trying to find a way to dominate the Iranian nation and prevent their independence and development.

Noting that the 2015 nuclear deal was one of such measures by the enemies, which only worsened the people’s living conditions, Ayatollah Sedighi said FATF is nothing but another tool to push the global arrogance’s goals forward against Iran.

“FATF is one of the tools of the enemies’ conspiracies, and they put a great emphasis on it,” he said.

He also criticized the government officials for pushing the Parliament and other legal apparatuses of the Establishment towards approving the bills.

On Wednesday (December 25), Former FATF President and the current Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing in US, Marshall Billingslea, admitted to having used the global anti-money laundering body as an opportunity to galvanize the international community against Iran.

Any spy craft in Iran-Russia-China naval drills to get hit: Top commander

An Iranian military commander warned foreign countries that any craft used for spying on an ongoing joint naval exercise among Iran, Russia and China will be targeted.

“Many countries are definitely seeking to know what the matter is. Spies have also taken action,” Sayyari told Tasnim.

“A joint war game is no joke, and this is no joking matter for us either,” he added.

“We will hit whatever spying craft in the war game zone, be it watercraft or aircraft, as we have proved having such a capability in the past,” the commander underlined.

Some information about the war game is publicized, but the classified information would not be accessible to anybody, Sayyari added.

Iran, Russia and China are holding a four-day joint naval exercise, dubbed Marine Security Belt, in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman.

On Thursday, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian announced that Beijing's Xining guided-missile destroyer would take part in the drills. Three Russian vessels are also taking part in the drills, according to reports.

The war game comes amid US efforts to woo countries into a maritime coalition for patrols in the Persian Gulf, which have received lukewarm welcome from its allies.

“Iran has long stated its readiness to work w/our neighbors to secure Persian Gulf. #HOPE-Hormuz Peace Endeavour-is on table right now. Our joint military drills in Oman Sea/Indian Ocean w/ our Russian & Chinese partners make clear our broader commitment to secure vital waterways,” Zarif tweeted late Friday.

US has restricted Iran's access to medicines: Health Minister

He further stated that severe restrictions imposed by Washington have made it impossible for Iran to buy medicines and medical equipment, noting that while the US government claims that the sanctions do not include medicines, foodstuff, and medical equipment, it has blocked almost all of Iran's financial transactions via international banking.

"Following my earlier letter dated 17 November 2019, the situation has aggravated and the international community, especially the UN representatives, have done nothing in this respect," Iran's Health Minister further noted.

While warning that hundreds of children suffering from MPS are exposed to the risk of death due to lack of drugs, Namaki said two US companies have stopped the export of medicine to Iran which has adversely affected 345 patients with Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS).

Namaki concluded that Iran has always been after constructive and dignified interaction with the world based on mutual respect while condemning America's unilateral exit from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and reinstatement of sanctions against Iran.

Pres. Rouhani: Enemies must return from their wrong way

“Those who have violated their commitments must return to the starting point and admit that they had been wrong about the Iranian nation,” he said.

The President also referred to the sanctions and continued, "If it were not for America’s conspiracy against the Iranian nation, our country’s income in the recent 2 years would surpass today’s $100 billion”.

Addressing the Iranian nation’s enemies, he said, "You are not a nation and government superior to the Iranian nation and government; we respect your nation and strongly disapprove of your government, but there is still a chance to return”.

“Despite all these hard conditions, the Iranian nation is a vibrant and hopeful nation and until the day there is this spirit, we will not be defeated and will continue along our path,” he said.

Dr. Rouhani referred to the water projects in the province, saying, "This indicates that despite sanctions, we are on the path to development”.

On the opening of different projects in Ardabil Province and other parts of the country, he said, "Water and power are tied not only to development, but also to people’s lives”.

“It is a matter of pride for us that 227 projects have been unveiled in the country in only 6 months,” he said.

BBC interview, Wed,08Jan20 of Barbara Slaven of the Atlantic Council.

She asked during her interview, "What is the goal?" with lran. "Capitulation?" "Anew nuclear deal?" and a couple of other things.

She said she has analyzed this from every aspect and she said she can find no objective.

So why even stronger sanctions? she was asking.

King Abdullah-Jordan in this interview also mentions Sultan Qaboos positively as an active moderate and channel between several power centers and lRI verses the US.

For this post, in the film at 7:49ff he signals that the old sectarian Sunni-Shi'a geographical divide is no longer the "Shi'a Crescent" but the "lranian Crescent".

Since this appears to be the new policy formulation, then all the Shi'a around the Gulf will be targeted as though they are lranians.

l do not think this was posted on S.C. This is the lntercept-recieved/collaboration with New York Times simultaneous publication of "leaked cables" from an unknown source. While there is very little new information, it does provide a "situational read" on the US and lRl in lraq --and a 'why' so much of the demonstrations is (as alleged) anti-lranian.  What is 'new' is the US after natural gas -and not just oil control- in western lraq/eastern Syria; and that the field cost of the lraq lnvasion was $2 Trillion (there is also another future $1 Trillionj medical cost).
