What did you learn in Hawza?

For the members who have done Hawza, could you give a detailed list and description of the things that you learned while there, and the actions/activities that you did while there? Perhaps list it in a chronological order. Hawza is very shrouded in mystery for many of us laymen.

In Hawza, after learning Arabic, do they teach you Qur'an?

Yes, that would be great. I am also confused about the pre-requisite knowledge one needs. Is everything taught there in order to make sure everyone is on the same base level, or do you need to go in with Quranic knowledge. JazakAllah Khair.

am a hawza dropout, so it's extremely limited what I've learned. Activities include various lectures other than the ones registered for & hawza is a quiet life, boring wonder.

it is estimated to take something like 8yrs, 7 days a week, 6 hrs of straight learning to sort of master Arabic language. Al Qur'an is something else. Arabic is the language, Al Qur'an is the message.

One lecture says 'Muhammad(s) went to the cave, he(s) did not go to university', yet we're not Muhammad(s) inasmuch as he's talking about 'opening of the mind', to understand. Hawza don't teach that, remember 'education has failed you if it has failed to open your heart' meaning to make you understand, yet that wisdom is only through the guidance of Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى).

You to your religion & I to mine can mean the same Prophet(s), same Qur'an, same Qibla teaching about one God, but different approaches.

& oh, if you are lucky, you might plant trees, firmly.

Jamiat al Mustafa is the overall umbrella body under which the formal hawzas operate, this is their website. http://en.miu.ac.ir/#focus 

You should be able to get the information you need from there. Should you have any further queries, let me know.

And yes, you will be taught basic Qur'an reading over the 5 to 7 years it takes to complete the undergraduate level, but if you are not already fluent, you are not likely to be developed on perfection and murattal and mujawwad recitations like a Qari, since these are considered extra curricular unfortunately. Further, Arabic is taught, but the vast majority of Iranian- Hawza educated students are not fluent in Arabic and cannot communicate effectively in Arabic even if they can understand written Arabic.

Depends.. for Urdu speaking students normally a month max 3 months is enough to be able to start attending class in Farsi. The accent training is what could take longer. 

If you are able to read Arabic script, it will also take you a shorter time, since you are able to read a similar enough language.

It took me about 4 months to be able to speak however I was put into class almost immediately wihout joining the language class semester. I am from Africa but can read some Arabic and a little Urdu. I am not very good with languages naturally, so my level has remained intermediate. Not much improvement in formal Farsi the last 7 years since I was in hawza. I also dropped out after the 4th month.

Compared to Arabic I would say it is much easier to learn. For one it does not have masculine and feminine for everything. It is also a somewhat "clumsier" language.
