Salam. You need to find other Muslims where you live. Sometimes there is no mosque because a few people get together (in someone's house or apartment or even an empty room at the university, etc) and then they pray together and have a short speech, encourage each other, and so on.

N plus u can enjoy discussing with online Muslim friends specially on this site

Be the change you desire in your life. As sister Hameedeh said, get some brothers together and even if you can just make a space that is permissible to pray in, that is a good start. Maybe have a discussion or conversation about an Islamic topic before or after prayer, do salawat, dhikr, before you know it you could really get something good going!

How does one go about finding other Muslims? There are two Sunni mosques near me (one vary small and way way Sunni with the other being Sunni as well, but odd vibe) with the closest Shia being over 2 hours away.

I would love to find others near me, I just have no idea how.

I've reached out to the Shia mosques, but never hear back.

Salam. There is a website called https://www.salatomatic.com/ that lists mosques, prayer spaces, schools, restaurants and markets. Look for ones that say Shia or Jafari. If there is a phone number, call first to see if the service is still in operation or has moved to another location.

Another website

https://www.zabihah.com/ lists halal zabiha locations, but it doesn't list anything according to Sunni or Shia. It lists them by food type:  Indian, Mediterranean, Pakistani, Turkish, Middle Eastern, Somali, Thai, Italian, American, Persian, Greek, etc.

If you are somewhere and notice someone who looks like a Shia (red carnelian ring), you can say salam and introduce yourself. If you find out, cautiously, that his name is Hussein or Ali or something similar, you could ask him where he attends majlis and he might tell you. Or you could ask him "Is there any place that reads Dua Kumayl?"

As salaamun aleikum,

When I was in a similar position to yours, I used facebook to establish and build a base of Shia friends. That was quite afew years ago. Basically, I searced for thc names of local (as close as possible) Shia masjids, made posts on their facebook pages stating my situation, and shortly after, people started responding. Those people then introduced me to others, and eventually I had a circle of friends I eventally ended up meeting in person.

You can try this and see where it leads. There may be others not far from a you that are in your same position. Some of them may even be attending the local Sunni masjids for the same reason, that they can’t find other Shias and theres no nearby Shia masjid.

Thank you for this. I have used salatomatic but its pretty spare where I am in the PNW. I never considered the restaurant angle. I think a new reason to go out to a bunch of restaurants once Ramadan ends has just been found.

I don't know where you live in the NE of Washington but this Shia mosque opened up last year in Spokane, WA. Prior to that they were just meeting in people's houses. https://www.facebook.com/spokanejafariacommunity/

It seems that salatomatic website no longer exists. When you click on the link you are transferred to zabihah.com website. It is not as informative, so I'm sorry about that. If you type in the city and state, it shows more than one item to click on, so if you are traveling you have no way of knowing which area is the closest to you. Maybe it is easier to just ask google what halal restaurant or mosque is near you.

Salam there is no problem about praying in sunni mosques behind sunnis , which it has been highly recommended by Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) to attend sunni mosques & pray behind sunnis ; which if you know that they have no enmity with shia muslims & attending in sunni mosques near you won't cause harming you so you can go to the sunni mosques also I hope so that you will find shia brothers insha'Allah vey soon .
