Alhamdulilah, 

Knowledge comes from Allah and Allah is most knowledgeable. We don’t necessarily enhance anything. Everything for us comes in measurements by Allahs will. Doctors think they prolong life and save lives. It’s Allah who dictates when we die and when we don’t.

Enhancing intelligence is learning about Allah and how he is in control of the universe and how it functions. There are many disbelievers who rebel against Allah but yet call themselves intelligent? They will be the losers. Believing in Allah and Reading and obeying and learning  the Qur'an is the foundation of building intelligence. The gate to its knowledge is through Ali (عليه السلام). and the Ahlul Bayt. 

I haven’t read anything about permissibility of gene editing but will it really work unless Allah allows it and if it does work is it because gene editing is more sufficient than Allah in giving you knowledge or is it because Allah willed it?

Well, the wise feels sufficient at what he possesses, sometimes, too much power can be a fuss such as some soldiers would think that they shouldn't feel sleepy while they are patrolling but they never comprehend the conditions of those who cannot sleep due to a neurotic disease, I have seen a female who could not sleep for years yet she does not consider it as a power but as a disaster for her life as she cannot feel refreshing and cries for it. Be sure that your body can take the up-gradation of your brain cells.

Could not sleep well? There's millions of those. It's not a power, but neither is the capability to sleep well a power in itself.

I think, I could not put it right, there has always been lot of research which aimed at finding ways to stay vigilant for longer times, this was one of the main reason for which coffee was discovered in past history. Coffee can make some people awake for a longer time but it also drains your energy which one would soon find out. I am just telling that improving one thing might have consequences for other abilities.

Gene editing is used to fix a mutation or a disease.
