New Shia App - ShiaHub

Salaam everyone,

I've been working on an app past couple of months, and just published it. It is free, and has no ads. Here are some of the features:

Qur'an with translations by Shia translators (3 english, 3 Farsi, and 3 Urdu), Aga Puya tafsir, and 4 Shia Qur'an reciters

Variety of Duas and Ziyarat with multiple reciters and english translation

Unofficial browsers for Shiavoice, Shiamultimedia, ShiaTV, and al-Islam.org

Live Shia TV channels

Compilation of links of maraji' books

Prayer times and adhan, with 3 different calculation methods, 2 midnight methods, and 4 adhan recitations

Apple makes it hard. To compile for iOS, first I need a Mac (>$600 used), then I need an iOS device to test on (>$400 used), and then I need to pay for an Apple Developers Account ($100/year). I wanted to put it out for iPhone and iOS, but I don't have $1000 to spare. Sorry man, maybe if I can get a job in the future, but as a high schooler, it's kind of hard.

Try downloading the audio, and then go back to the previous menu (after download is complete), and then play the audio and it should have sound.

Where in the app are you trying to play audio and it doesn't work? Duas, or Qur'an, or somewhere else? Please explain a little more so I can recreate the problem and fix it.

Can you collaborate with someone that already has a mac and an IOS device or can you start a gofundme? I really would like to get this app on my phone and I’m sure a lot would like it too.

Works fine for me. Insha'Allah I will be putting one of the reciters on during Ramadhan. Amer Al Kadhimi, never heard of him before but glad I have now. Nice paced reciting and clear masha'Allah, I don't enjoy listening to these super fast paced reciters, despite the holy Words they recite.

For me it occurs every single time in Dua and Qur'an. I have to download audio first, and then leave that menu, before I can return to play the audio. But since this bug is consistent, it's not a big issue for me. This is probably an issue with all audio playback, except live tv which works perfectly for me.

Which play button do you press in the Dua? Do you press the one in the bottom or beside the reciters name? You should be pressing beside the reciters name.

If you are pressing the correct play button, does it send any toast message (I.e. "Playing Online", "Playing Offline"), or is there no response at all?

I am having trouble replicating the issue, hope you don't mind the questions.

I have a few app suggestions:

I really like the app "Divine Pearls" especially the 'prayer time' and 'calendar' sections, but I like all of its other sections too.

Check out that app and see if there are any features you would like to implement.

Secondly, many people follow Khomeini, and Sadiq Shirazi, so I think you should add them to the "maraja books" section of your app [Shia Hub].

Lastly, see if you can take ideas from other apps. "Shia companion" has some unique features like 'live holy shrines' [although difficult to implement nicely, as ig relies on youtube videos or other sites that may remove the streams]. "Shia toolkit" has some unique features like 'hadith directory' [although this is definitely inappropriate for laymen, as we probably shouldn't be interpreting hadith no matter how obvious it's meaning seems]. "Shia dua" has duas for specific situations [although this is possibly the incorrect usage of dua].

Okay it works now. But, "playing online" never works for me.

So if you go to a Dua that you don't have downloaded, and hit play, does it say "Playing Online" or does nothing happen?

I just released a quick fix for this, which should be live in a few hours inshallah. I would love it if you guys could report back to me, so I can make sure everything is working.

The app would be extra amazing if it had a dedicated section for prayer timings with settings.

Also, I like the features of the 'Divine Pearls' app. If those features could be implemented that would be amazing!

Hmm, I thought it had prayer times.

Although, the prayer times section requires location to be allowed and on (when opening for the first time), so maybe I'll make it work with a typed in location instead in the next update.

As for the features from Divine Pearls, what specifically would you like?

That would be perfect. I especially like the calendar,  but it's other menus sometimes come in handy such as qibla compass, and azan (under prayer time), and I see how some user would find other features nifty and useful, such as tasbeeh counter, rakatey, and qaza record.

Edit: And don't forget to change the colour of the banner to a less bright green.

brother I think its fixed now .

The problem was in the  download section  ..now its rectified

the other prob  was not playing online ..its rectified

one or two  more minor request

when you select to download plz try to incorporate progress bar .so that user is aware something is happening .. I was wondering many time if download is working ..

If you can give option to select location to save download file instead of automatically saving to default location so that it can be saved to sd card . ...I have phone with very less phone space ..

I don't know why, but I don't feel comfortable opening a GoFundMe for some reason. I am scared I wouldn't be able to port the app to iOS, or that I would get lazy and stop working, and would have wasted everyone's money.

I will try to add some form of progress. As for file saving location, I'll see what I can do.

1. I will see what I can do.

2. Adding these sections is hard, because I have to go through the book and separate both the Arabic and the English, and each Hadith separately, to put it into a json file, which takes a while.

3. I'll see if others have similar feedback.

4. Yes, I am already updating this, and it and along with a couple other cosmetic things should be available in the next update.

New update has been released!

I've listened to requests about cosmetics and this is almost purely a cosmetic update.

The theme of the app and icon have gotten darker, and you can change font sizes throughout the app.

One additional thing is that you can use Salah times without gps, as requested by some.

Inshallah next update will be focused on content, from the requests I received.

I got a notification for maghrib prayer and the adhan played, but I have not gotten any notification for other prayers and no adhan. How do I fix that? 

Also one request, in the Qur'an section, can you please put the number of the ayah in English numbers (I know it's not called English numbers lol but what else to call them) as well as Arabic. Also, would it be possible to have some kind of bookmarker that saves your place?

If you hold down on the verse it should give you the English number, transliteration, and tafsir.

For the notification problem, if your phone has any battery saver that is restricting the app, try disabling it for the app. Also, if you go into the app info in Android settings, make sure Autostart is enabled, some phones start with it disabled.

For the English numbers, I'll see what I can do.

For the bookmarking, I'll also see what I can do.
