Although the majority of Muslims loathe Isis, jihadi extremism certainly has something to do with Islam, given that extremists self-identify as Muslims.

Here's an alternative statement, "Although the majority of democrats loathe war crimes, Abu Ghraib certainly has something to do with democracy, given that the perpetrators self-identify as democrats".

You could construct a variety of similar statements that link the actions of a minority with the belief/faith/religious system of the majority.

Considering those ISIS head choppers aren't Muslims, how do we call them "islamists"? The term being used in a negative manner is a disgrace to Islam.

They are a disgrace to Islam, but doing takfir on them is just doing what they do and not really constructive

If they profess to believe in the Shahadah, they are Muslim by definition. It is not for us to pronounce takfir on them, let them be judged by their actions by the Judge, actions which we can agree are wrong, misguided and corrupt.

If you don't want to consider them non Muslim, they are atleast bad Muslims. So, when we use words such as "islamists" or "extremist" we give off the idea that they are "extreme Muslims", but I think our maraji' while be considered extreme Muslims because they follow Islam the most extremely, not these takfiri wahhabi terrorists.

If we replace Muslim with Salafi will it make sense?

Westerners have no clue what goes on and they shuffle with terms they don’t understand. Everything that goes on since 1970’s on behalf of “Muslims” should be called Wahhabi terrorism. It is not “Islamic/Islamist/Muslim terrorism/jihadism/extremism et al.”, and it’s spread everywhere by the close Western allies.

This term "islamist" is a termi don’t like. Because if we consider that an islamist is someone who want to mix politics and religions so all Muslims are supposed to be islamists.

The term islamism/jihadism is invented to neglect and demonize the self determination of Muslims.

The first Islamic state in Medina was based on mutual acceptance of both Muslims and non-Muslims and founded without any bloodshed.

Islamic rule was snatched away by colonial powers and labelled anti-democratic and opressive. Today the IRG of Iran is labelled as a terrorist organisation only because they're not on the zionist/imperialist bandwagon.
