Anyone who has seen how dogs freak out with excitement upon hearing "walk" will get this.

We used to spell the words woods, pitch and lead because otherwise our family dog would be bouncing up and down the stairs like a nutter.

 I love B&T's!!!

But we're probably getting the Saluki eventually because "somebody" wants one.

I should probably ask in here for a good name for him/her.

Don't want to name it anything stupid.

I can remember a few names. His all time favorite was named "Black Jack" who was unusually large for a B&T. I have a picture of it on my wall, the dog posing with my parents. Its jaw is about half the length of my Dad's forearm.

Another one was Judy, which accidently hung herself.

A puppy was named "Drum" because its feet were so big that they sounded like a drum when it trotted on the concrete. My Dad sold or gave it to another hunter and then saw it again when it was three or four. He said that dog was slightly bigger than a Great Dane and weighed about 175 lbs. Its feet which were about four inches across as a puppy, were a little more than six inches as an adult.

I remember a program from years ago, which said that over a three mile course, nothing in the World can catch it, it runs so fast. No so for shorter sprints.

@LeftCoastMom  Here is advice my Dad gave me when we went to the pound to get me a dog.

After he got Mom away from me, he said to go along the cages -which had 15 and 20 dogs each, awaiting gassing- and pick the one standing up looking at me. So I went along the 6 or 7 cages for smaller dogs. One in the second or third cage came over and stood with its front paws on the cage. I studied all the way down to the end and then worked my way back. That dog was still standing there looking at me while the others 'could care less'.

Sensitivity Alert !

I was listening to the radio today and they discussed this problem for veterinarians that has emerged.

Dogs investigate everything, There is a homeless problem. Homeless people use a lot of drugs and relieve themselves on the street. RESULT: there are a lot of dogs showing up in animal emergency facilities all drugged-up from sniffing the residual chemicals in people's feces.

These poor pouches stagger, act strange and some act 'very happy'.

However, the THC in marijuana is "toxic" to dogs. Some get real sick from it, and some get a sleepy-mellow.

^ @Propaganda_of_the_Deed Thanks! Pretty sure I'm not naming it " Bambi" or " Hippy" ...and " Saluki" seems to lack effort. Lol.

I thought these were lousy names.

If it were mine, I'd name it "Willie" or "Waylon"

Now you have me humming that old song....

"Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Willie and Waylon and the boys
This successful life we're livin's got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs
And Jerry Jeff's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas there ain't nobody feelin' no pain!"

Just checking:

Does anyone here know how to say or write  " purebred" in Arabic? SG and family are out of phone range and I'm having a frustrating intercultural moment.

hi it writes as " اصیل " that pronounce as " Asil " that  mostly uses for horses but it refers to dogs sometime
