Surah Muzammil, Salat ul Layl and Qur'an

Salam, 

Tafsir Al mizan hasn't been translated to English so far. I wanted to look up the commentary on a few verses. Can anyone please translate this for me.

Translating tafseers of the Qur'an can be quite challenging, because sometimes you understand and know the meaning but it’s hard to translate it to English. Below is a quick translation:

And it says <and recite the Qur'an with measured [proper] recitation> The measured recitation of the Qur'an is that you read the Qur'an with the proper letter pronunciation, and this phrase is affiliated with: <arise the night> It means arise the night and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.

It is apparent that what is meant by the recitation of the Qur'an is its recitation in salah, or the salah itself, and mentions Allah in the expression of this verse: <Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur'an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed>Al-Isra: 78. And it has been said: It means it is preferred to recite the Qur'an not just in salah.

I think you want those verses :

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ 

 قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا 

 نِّصْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا

O you wrapped up in your mantle!

Stand vigil through the night, except for a little [of it],

a half, or reduce a little from that

or add to it, and recite the Qur'an in a measured tone.[73:1-3]

....

but standing vigil most of the night is difficult for us and may we fail to night prayer and Qur'an recitation all nights and 2/3 of night. so Allah discounts us with this verse :

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَاللَّـهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ۚ

Indeed your Lord knows that you stand vigil for nearly two thirds of the night—or [at times] a half or a third of it—along with a group of those who are with you. Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you cannot calculate it [exactly], and so He was lenient toward you. So recite as much of the Qur'an as is feasible.  [73:20]

 

however ideal for Allah is to praying and recitation Qur'an most part of the night, but if you can't it's OK, pray and recite as possible for you

 What caught my attention in Surah Muzzammil was Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) talking about Salat ul layl and Qur'an together. For the past some time I have been trying to get better acquainted with the Qur'an.

Surah Muzammil verse2- 4 and the ones preceding it as mentioned by brother @Sayed Hossein above says:

Stand (to pray) all night, except a little.   قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلً

 Half of it, or a little less than that,      صْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا 

and recite the Qur'an in a measured tone.  أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا

Here the word used is Tartil , which mean regularity and good articulation however, it can also be taken to mean that reflect and meditate upon the verses of Qur'an.

It is narrated from the Noble Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) as saying

"The Holy Qur’an is not supposed to recite the Qur’anic Verses hastily, but they should be recited articulately. Whenever you come to a Verse treating of Hell, stop your recitation and invoke God Almighty for forgiveness. But, when you come to a Verse treating of Paradise, stop your recitation and invoke God Almighty to grant you Paradise [and prepare yourself for the same"  . (This narration has been quoted with this verse in a number of Qur'an commentaries)

Next is : 

Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word        إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا  (Several Qur'an commentators have said that 'weighty word' here means Qur'an)

and the very next verse  

Verily the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah).                                                    إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا

Pertinent to mention here would be the hadith Noble Prophet (S) said: 'An hour of contemplation is better than seventy years of worship.'  So probably the best time for those of us who want to memorise or recite and reflect upon the Qur'an verses and experience spiritual growth would be the time of night prayers.

The last verse of Surah Muzammil again talks about night prayers and Qur'an recitation 

Your Lord knows that you and also a group of those with you stand [in prayer] at night a little less than two thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night. And Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to [precisely] measure it, so He granted you Mercy. Therefore, recite the Qur’an as much as may be convenient to you.

May Allah grant us all the toufeeq of getting familiar and understanding the Qur'an through reflection. It's one of the two things that will guide us towards the right path and if we wish to be amongst the companions of Imam e Zamana(عليه السلام) we can't do so unless we make efforts towards understanding the Holy Book. 

Peace be upon thee O king of the times                            

AS SALAAMU ALAIKA YA SAHIB UL ASR WAZ ZAMAN

Peace be upon thee O Imam of men and jinn

AS SALAAMU ALAIKA YA Imam AL INSI WAL JANN

Peace be upon thee O Companion of Qur'an

AS SALAAMU ALAIKA YA SHARIK AL Qur'an

one of the best Ayat that is recommended to recite before Salat ul layl is these verses :

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِّأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ﴿١٩٠﴾ الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّـهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَـٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ﴿١٩١﴾ رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ ۖ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ ﴿١٩٢﴾ رَّبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلْإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا ۚ رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ ﴿١٩٣﴾ رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۗ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ ﴿١٩٤﴾

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the Earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.

Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the Earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.

Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous.

Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise." [3:190-194]
