I totally understand where you're coming from. I am also from the UK and converted to Shia Islam a few years ago. It can be very daunting going to shia Islamic centres when you don't know anyone but generally people are pretty friendly. I will send you a PM with details of people you may be able to contact inshallah. :)

Wa Alaikum Salaam.

Welcome to Shiachat! I hope you are successful in this endeavour Inshallah. By the way I like your profile picture.

I was a little bit nervous as well having to find and meet with a community especially where I live but I found that when any Muslims  realise someone shows a legitimate interest in understanding the faith or wanting to get back on the right path anyone anywhere is willing to help. I was born and raised in Australia and wanted to learn more about Shi’a Islam (during the month of Muharram) they treated me like a King and later I converted and am excited for my first upcoming Ramadan.

I hope you are just as successful sister.

@Wholehearted Shi'a Wow brother! MashAllah. I didn't know that you had converted. I always respected you but now my regard has increased for you ten fold.

Salaam Alaikum,

I am a recent revert and am brand new to Shiachat and have enjoyed reading through the posts and learning so much!

I'm struggling to find programmes or community events for new Shia sisters in London, every event for reverts I find is aimed at Sunnis or are held at Sunni mosques. I'm trying to find ways to reach out and make friends and build a new community, especially with Ramadan coming up it would be great to find support away from the internet.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or tips people could make to help me! I'm lucky to live quite close to many Shia Islamic centres but it can be intimidating going in there alone and trying to strike up conversations but maybe I need to be more brave :)

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Welcome to Shiasm.  The book below can help you....

When you run a mile, and you win, how does that feel?

Now you converted, you won, don't let things stress you, and cmon I bet you are strong enough to attend prayers, and something alike.

You are only weak in your eyes, surely Allah sees you as a precious human being capable of doing anything If you obey him.

May Allah bless you, just like he blessed ahlulbayt.

Take that aside.

I am impressed in your courage, and facts are clear that you seem to love shia islam!

Good luck!

From this absurd guy.

Many thanks for your well wishes! I'm Australian as well, hence my picture, but living in London for the next little while.

Are you in Sydney? Is there a good sized Shia community there? I will have to look into it more before I move back!

I live in a small rural Aussie town west of New South Wales. However, I know that the Shia community in Sydney and Melbourne have very active and vibrant communities. I hope one day Inshallah after University that my desired job takes me to one of these two cities.

Salam sister! Welcome to Islam! Sister you are so blessed to be a convert and to be in the right path. Be brave when you go to those Shia Islamic centers near you. I am sure once you tell them you are new convert you will have many new friends inshAllah (if Allah wills). Usually all Muslims love new converts and will gladly help you in learning more.

May Allah help you find good community of Shias and have success in life. May Allah strenghten your faith and always keep you guided, amin.
