Salam,

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Sa`eed narrated. He said: `Ali b. al-Hasan at-Taymali3 narrated from `Ali b. Mehzayar from Hamad b. `Isa from al-Husayn b. al-Mukhtar from Abu Baseer.

He said: I said to Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام the saying of Allah عزوجل, “The degrading punishment in the life of this world, and in the Hereafter…” (5:33) – what is the degrading punishment of this world? So he said: What disgrace is more degrading, O Abu Baseer, than a man who is in his house and his surrounding, with his brethren and in between his children, when his woman rips her clothes and screams [out of shock] in front of him? Then the people will say, “What is this?” and they are answered, “Fulan has been metamorphosed (or transfigured) at this hour”. So I said: Before the rise of the Qa’im عليه السلام or after it? He said: No, indeed, before it. (Nu`mani’s Ghayba)
(muwathaq) (موثق)

Questions:

  1. Who is fulan? Dajjal?
  2. How would this random woman know this?
  3. What does it mean for Dajjal or he referent to be transfigured?
    • He was one thing and then turned into another? Physically?

Thank you!

From the English version of "Ghayba" by Numani:

(41) Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Sa'eed narrated from Ali bin al-Hasan at-Taymali from Ali bin Mahziyar from Hammad bin Eessa from al-Husayn bin al-Mukhtar that Abu Baseer had said: I said to Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (s): Allah has said, ‘The chastisement of disgrace in this world's life.’[1] What is the chastisement of disgrace in this life?”

He said: “O Abu Baseer, is there a disgrace worse than that when a man is in his house and among his family and then his family begins to cry and weep and people ask what the matter is to be said to them that that man is metamorphosed?”

I said: “Will that happen before or after the appearance of al-Qa'im (s)?”He said: “It will happen before the appearance of al-Qa'im (s).

The above hadith is mentioned in Chapetr 14 "The signs preceding Appearance" (of Imam Mahdi As). Hadith no. is 41.

I also like to quote the hadith before and after this hadith from Ghayba:

(40) Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Sa'eed narrated from Ahmad bin Yousuf bin Ya'qoob from Issma'eel bin Mihran from al-Hasan bin Ali bin Abu Hamza from his father and Wuhayb that Abu Baseer had said: Once Abu Ja'far al-Baqir (s) was asked about the interpretation of the Qur’anic verse, ‘We will soon show them Our signs in the Universe and in their own souls, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth,’[1] and he said:

Allah will show them His signs in the skies and in their selves. The saying, ‘until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth,’ means the appearance of al-Qa'im, who is the truth that Allah will make His people see inevitably.”

(42) Ali bin Ahmad al-Bandaneeji narrated from Obaydillah bin Musa al-Alawi from Ahmad bin Abu Ahmad al-Warraq that Ya'qoob bin as-Sarraj had said:

I asked Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (s): “When will the deliverance of your Shia come?”

He said: “When the Abbasids disagree, their rule will become weak, those, who have never thought of the rule, will seize the opportunity to gain their (the Abbasids’) rule, the Arabs will become  uncontrolled, as-Sufyani will rise, al-Yamani will come with his army, al-Hasani will move with his troops and then al-Qa'im will appear in Medina and move towards Mecca with the heritage of the Prophet (s).”

I said: “What is the heritage of the Prophet (s)?” He said: “The heritage of the Prophet (s) is his sword, armor, turban, garment, banner, stick, horse and saddle.”

These hadith just mention about the signs of appearance of Imam Mahdi AS without  mentioning any thing about Dajjal in their text. So it seems that the meaning of "Fulan" could not be Dajjal.

It says that this punishment can be happen for everyone this word is used when want to refers to anybody or indirectly the name reveals in conclusion by reader in shia hadiths it’s most of times is using for anyone but in sunni Hadith when they want to hide name of their great personalities like as Muspawiah (la) or one of three caliphs  when their hadiths exposes their wrongdoing

that true animalistic figure of some people that have  no good deeds & only have sins will uncover like as judgement day  when time comes near to time of reappearance of Imam Mahdi (aj)

But it said by Imam Ali (as) that Dajjal will be like a man that his right eye is blind & his left eye is in his forehead that shines like a red shining  star that word of blasphemy (‘Kufr’’کفر’) is written between his two eyes

It is true that there are many hadith from our prophet saww and  imams about the Dajjal separately. I have quoted part of  hadiths as given below:

1. "Asbagh bin Nubatah stood up and said: O Maula! Who would be the Dajjal? He replied, ‘The name of Dajjal is Saeed bin Saeed. Thus one who supports him is unfortunate. And are fortunate who deny him. He shall emerge from Yahoodiya village of Isfahan. He shall be blind in the right eye. The left would be on the forehead like a bloody piece, which would be glinting like the morning star. On his forehead would be inscribed: ‘Kafir’ (disbeliever) which would readable to the literate as well as the illiterate.

He shall jump into the seas. The Sun will follow him. A mountain of smoke will precede him and a white mountain will follow him, which in times of famine will be mistaken to be a mountain of food (bread). He shall be mounted on a white ass.

One step of that ass will be of one mile. Whichever spring or well he reaches, will dry up forever. He will call out aloud which shall be audible to all in the east and the west from the Jinns, humans and satans. He would tell his friends: I am the one who created then shaped. And I estimated and guided. I am your High Lord.

That enemy of Allah will be a liar. He shall be a one-eyed man having human needs, who walks about while your Lord is neither one-eyed nor in need of food. He neither walks nor is there decline for him. He is above all things.

2. Then he told his companions: O people, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime did not send any prophet but that he warned his nation of Dajjal and Allah, the Mighty and Sublime has kept him alive till your time. When you fall in doubt about him you should remember that your Lord cannot be one-eyed. Indeed the Dajjal would be astride an ass and the distance between the two ears of the ass will be one mile. He will be accompanied with Paradise and Hell and a mountain of bread and a stream of water. Most of his followers will be Jews, women and ignorant ones. He will roam through the whole earth except for the Holy Kaaba in Mecca, and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.”

Salam transfiguration for women only happens in judgment day like as men but this hadith talks about our current world & Allah wants to hold dignity of women in this world ,

it's also said in stronger hadith that knowledge will reach to women that live behind curtains it means even women that don't leave home for any reason before reappearance islamic knowledge will reach them & they can judge for themselves about everything also said people will look at their palms men & women that they will receive news & knowledge that by advancing in making cellphones it's become a reality.
