Salaam brothers and sisters,

Alhamdulilah I will be in a position in the near future to start seriously looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with. Unfortunately, I live in a smaller midwest US city with no Shia presence.

My family is not Shia, so any sisters they know would (mostly) be Sunni, which is something I would like to avoid.

That being said, is there anyone who was in a similar situation that found a spouse?

Also anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking? I am 100% American, so the whole arranged marriage culture completely avoids me, and prefer to be with someone  I can culturally relate to.

Salaam Brother,

I know this might not seem very practical to you right now but you should consider moving to a place with more shias. If there was a shia islamic centre nearby you could have asked the molana for help. Even after you get married and have kids InshAllah, it would be better to raise them where they can interact with other shias so you should definitely consider moving for long term benefits.

At the moment you can try finding a spouse on Shiamatch.com.

We muslims really need to get over the cultural and racial barriers.

:salam:

Best scenario for you would be to meet a person interested in Islam who would eventually convert and follow your spiritual journey through Shia Islam.

Praying for your success.

If you are a revert you should also realize that most Muslims are more cultural than religious, and they are not interested in marrying their daughters to reverts.  I wish you well and you should try and relocate if possible.  Otherwise just try and utilize the internet.

It's getting more "normal" to marry daugthers to converts. I know quite a few actually. My own sister is married to a European convert.

I tried Shiamatch about five years ago. Nothing developed more than conversations. One of the mods here on Shiachat recommended a list of other matchmaking sites too including Muzmatch which somebody also said is good and reliable, it looks good, reliable and secure to me too. I have just put my profile on Muzmatch and selected Shia. I am also trying ShiaMatch again, i am in a better position now since five years ago, so I am hoping things will develop further inshallah. Since last night somebody on Shiamatch opened up to communicate with me. Please pray for us all for blessings Inshallah

Salam brother,

There are many shias in dearborn chicago, a huge community, mainly lebanese shias, which to my understanding are also more liberal on the marriage front.

Maybe someone here could connect you to the sheikh there? @Abu Hadi maybe? He is an american revert who married a shia lebanese.

My personal suggestion would be to marry someone who lives in a shia community and then move there if you can. Long term you could ask your parents to come live with you as they grow older and then iA they would get more in contact with the shia theology and community and who knows what would happen next. InshaAllah it will go well for you, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is with the patient, those who endure, the sabireen.
