Why do we pay to watch two people fight each other in a cage purely for entertainment? Particularly as muslims, is that not against the spirit of Islam? Do we have nothing better to do than watch two people beat each other like animals?

This is coming from someone who used to really enjoy watching boxing, so I can understand it but, I dunno, I'm not sure when exactly I stopped liking it and started viewing it negatively. It bothers me that the whole world cares so much mcgregor is coming back to fight as if it's actually important to our lives.

I actively participate in kickboxing, but using it to damage another human for the sole purpose of entertainment for a bunch of people? Why doesn't anyone speak out against that idea?

Don't these guys sometimes end up with brain injuries? That is really severe and nothing one would wish for anyone to deal with.

I can't watch violence at all. Not even fake violence.

Even for more conservative sports in terms of physicality such as american football, there are many ex-players coming out about how worthless it is to play the high-risk sport at the expense of one's potential health - not worth it for the money nor for the entertainment of people who don't really care what happens to any of the players.

But here we got an extreme sport like UFC being praised even by relatively more religious people, and personally I've never heard anyone speak about the issue of morality surrounding it in regards to those who watch/support it.

Is it halal to expose oneself to such a high risk and dangerous sport?

Either way I don't think such dangerous sports should be allowed.

Brain damage can completely ruin a person's life leaving them handicapped and dependant on others.

But seriously, sometimes I do wonder if it’s even halal to watch, and in turn, encourage combat sports given the damage that is dealt to the participants, sometimes amounting to severe disability or even death.

There are always exceptions :D

I cannot understand how people can watch people physically hurt eachother. It affects the individual watching it as well through mirror neurons in the brain, so one should normally feel pain watching it.

I dont watch women UFC cause haram and girls cant fight. But I watch to admire the fighting skills. I keep up with many fighters. Not a fanboy but I have my favourites you get me?

Halal to watch. Haram to participate if it will cause severe injury.

Opposite gender however cant watch. Girls cant watch mens fights and guys cant watch womens fights.

Yes, some people never grow up :D *kidding*

But seriously I do understand (even though I don't agree with it) that some men like fights as that is somewhat natural for men. There's a reason why men literally are obliged to partake in wars (jihad) when required out of Islamic reasons. So I guess fights are "in them" somehow.

Also in developmental psychology it is known that small boys play differently than small girls. They fight as play. They call this type of fighting "rough and tumble" in the literature.

Because people have different interests, easy as that.

People have different interests of course, that applies to all avenues of life, and like I said I myself am active in kickboxing. But some interests are backwards, others disliked, others abnormal, etc.

I'm questioning whether it's a good or bad thing to allow oneself to partake in such interests as UFC. To me, it used to be entertaining but not anymore because I feel it does more unseen harm than anything to the person watching, the persons partaking, and the society which indulges in it.

I feel it's different to for example a lot of the fights Muhammad Ali put up, because while he was entertaining, he used it to his advantage to be so much more than that, i.e. he wasn't fighting to entertain people, he was fighting for a bigger cause.
