How lucky are we, and how much do we take it for granted that the golden age of football is in our current time? Lionel Messi, the greatest there was, the greatest there is and the best through out all future generations is playing in our era right now. Soak it in, because we'll wish we had payed more attention when the day comes where he must finally retire.

Messi is a very gifted player but in other aspects such as personality is a weak person he is not comparable with players such as Maradona ,in many times Messi supported oppressors such as Israelis at last Ronaldo has a personality to stands against injustice but non of them are comparable with classic one players such as Maradona ,etc

l saw on dw.com Shift  this week a ranking on followers for soccer players. Lionel Messi ranked third.

I'll ignore that Palestine/Israel conflict comment because it's irrelevant but I understand that emotionally in regards to my hearty nostalgia I would blindly say Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Zidane or Maradona are the greatest. And as far as personality Cristiano Ronaldo, Thomas Muller and David Beckham would be on that list. But when looked at unbiasedly & unemotionally with cold hard logic from a third person perspective, as far as skill, technique and talent, Lionel Messi is the Greatest of all Time when it comes to pure, unadulterated footballing magic. The sad thing is, only when Messi retires will people start to love him and miss him. My words may be falling on deaf ears, but his record speaks for itself. But I understand that nostalgia is hard to break from. Enjoy the knockout stages guys!

Salam ,it's not just about nostalgia or emotion for example Pele was a miraculous  player at his time like as Messi but he is just a brand advertiser in propaganda machine of capitalists  but Maradona  despite his self destruction behavior always is a symbol of standing injustice , Messi hypnotize everybody in field but out of field is nothing but players as CR7 & Zidane have their personality also one of reasons that media is not in favor of cr7 as Messi is because he has anti Zionist personality but Messi is just a good boy that does what zionist media dictate to him.

You do realize that Ronaldo actually went to Israel and made commercials? These were heavily criticized by pro Palestinians.  That video floating around WhatsApp of him making anti-Israeli comments is mostly fabricated.

As for the OP.  Messi is undoubtedly one of the 4 best players of all time.  In my opinion Messi, Maradona and Brazilian Ronaldo are the 3 best players I have ever seen.  I feel Pele is overrated and CR7 doesn't even belong in the same conversation.  Zidane is also up there but even he was not as naturally gifted as the 3 I mentioned.

Unfortunately i cant open any YouTube videos for some reason

but i assume that zidane praised ronaldo

Still even if zidane says that ronaldo is better than him

that doesn’t make ronaldo better than him

last time I checked, the top 5 greatest players of all time were

1-pele

2-maradona

3-zidane

4-CR7

5-messi

yeah but i said that he has more personality than Messi but we can't expect that he completely be a pro Palestian  ,anyway all of sport brands controls by Zionists around the world so professional athletes must cooperate with them also he made  mistake about supporting White Helmets because of their good propaganda .

Argentinian soccer star Lionel Messi became a member of the fan club of the controversial Israeli soccer team Beitar Jerusalem.

Beitar’s team owner, businessman Moshe Hogeg, presented Messi with a membership card at an event in Barcelona in which he presented Finney, the “world’s first ultra-secure blockchain smartphone.”

Messi joins Israel's most racist clubs

The most racist Israeli clubs have been declared against the Arabs, and a tendency towards the far right; the granting of membership to Barcelona player Lionel Messi.

Moshe Hogig, the right-wing Israeli businessman and owner of Beitar Jerusalem, presented the club's membership card to Messi, according to the official accounts of the club.

Messi is linked to a sponsorship contract with a company owned by the Israeli businessman, who has benefited from his relationship with the Argentine star to promote his club.

Messi is great but he's never done enough when not surrounded by other world-class talents; Maradona, on the other hand, carried most of the teams he played on (from Napoli to the Argentinean national team) to greatness. Hell, forget Maradona, Messi hasn't even been as good as Cristiano in this regard.

This, and the fact that he was never good enough on the international stage, will ultimately be his downfall when it comes to GOAT conversations.

Messi is the best offensive threat I've seen. He is the Gretzky of football.

But there are other players who were more complete, such as Johann Cruyff

If I had to point to one guy and say best footballer ever, I would have to say Lev Yashin , the "black spider". He completely dominated.

The bolded part reminds me of a comment I saw the other day, it went something like this:

Messi was only great because of Xavi and Iniesta, but they were only good because of Guardiola's system, but he was a fraud and his system was reliant on Messi, but Messi was only great because of Xavi and Iniesta, but they were only good because of Guardiola's system which was only great because of Messi who was reliant on Xavi and Iniesta and so on.

A lot of older footballers would replace Zidane with Di Stefano. I personally think Zico should be in that list.

Maradona was better than Messi, and so is CR7.

How else can you explain Messi's lack of success in the Argentinean team except for an inability to make mediocre players around him better?

And, although I enjoy watching CR7 ply his trade more, it has to be said that the consensus in the footballing world is that Messi has always been a bit better. I actually think the next few years will be instrumental in setting them apart -- Ronaldo's obviously trying very hard to write the stories that Messi will never be able to in the insulated surroundings of Catalonia.

lol if you know anything about football, CR7 isn't even in the conversation as one of the top 3 all time.  It is Maradona Messi and Pele.  I would also put Zidane and Brazilian Ronaldo ahead of CR7.

As far as Messi having great players around him.  Messi has taken a totally dysfunctional Argentinian team to 3 international finals on his own. He hasn't managed to win a title but it is not like he is totally useless for Argentina, he makes one great player after another, is triple teamed and his teammates just cannot finish.

What Messi does on the pitch is magic, only Maradona produced the same brilliance on a daily basis.  Messi is the best dribbler, playmaker, FK taker and finisher in the world.

ia I don't know the extent of your understanding of how things work, of what is real & what is pure.

were another to come, would you say 'impossible, magic, miracle'?

word 'greatest' is a loose sense here.

the third perspective view is different from the first hand view or gorilla on the back view or most critically the view of those who go & consult to view the tomorrows' matches & apply whatever alterations to whatever advantages/disadvantages.

alhamdulillah

- Is not He who created the heavens and the Earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.

- His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.

- So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.

Yasin 81-83
