That's very strange, but it seems suicide is all the rage these days. I wonder what mental illness the poor man suffered, that this seemed a good idea at the time.

He was a french 26 year old convert.

Many youngsters are confused and mislead here.

26 years old is not a youngster! He clearly was confused and misled though. I think the question was why French more than others.

USA suicide:

France suicide:

Both countries re plagued with the ill mental health of its citizens. It is still very shocking that he decided to commit suicide in holy mosque in holy month. As if he is testifying that he disbelieve in God's mercy and God's might and power to change situations.

I am not underestimating the amount of pressure that was upon the man that lead to such fate, on the contrary, I am saying that if we do not stick togather with those going under stressful times, gave them ears at least, we are pushing them to the despair ourselves.

Some Sunni groups think if they die in anyway inside holy mosque of Mecca will go to Paradise probably he thought the same & killed himself for a one way ticket to paradise.

I might not get the meaning of youngster correctly, to me it is around 20, probably his age when he 'converted'.

We need to talk to people more. Imagine if someone welcomed this guy (not saying that no one did), and maybe it could of prevented him committing suicide. Our words have the power to heal people. We should always be nice to others - we never know who will commit suicide.

A number of East Asian Muslims believe that death in Mecca is something that brings man close to his Lord.

According to Saudi security officials, the site of the incident is immediately surrounded by the Red Crescent so that they can save the person, but the person who is acting is immediately dead.

The suicide operation was carried out yesterday by one of the Muslims in East Asia. The exact cause of suicide has not been determined, but some East Asian Muslims believe that death in Sacred Mecca and Shrine Sharif is something that brings man closer to the Lord and causes the savior and their forgiveness.

According to local media, Haidari was repeating in high tone a prayer known among the Shiites, mentioning in it the name of Iraqi religious leader Muqtada al-Sadr before he committed suicide, throwing himself from the rooftop to the ground floor of the Grand Mosque.

Did he really commit suicide or was he killed?

I don't believe any unreliable media.

To me it seems unlikely that one would commit suicide in Mecka when you are taking care of your own mother.

Why didn't he kill himself earlier when his son died? The worst period is immediately when someone dies, not months afterwards. Why kill himself in Mecka? Why not in Iraq?

I'm not saying he didn't commit suicide, but things are not crystal clear here.
