The Second Coming Of Isa (as)

Salam brothers.

Recently there is a controversial sunni figure, namely mufti abu layth who claimed that the second coming of jesus (as) is not proven from quran or sunnah and that this is influenced from christian sources. That made me think, is the second coming of jesus established from our books? Is it established in the quran?

And for their saying: "Surely we have killed the Messiah, ‘Īsã son ofMaryam, the Messenger of Allãh"; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so(like ‘Īsã);and most surely those who differ therein are only in doubt about it;they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow aconjecture; and certainly they killed him not(4:157).

Nay! Allãh raised him up to Himself; and Allãh is Mighty, Wise(4:158).

And there is not one of the People of the Book but he must certainlybelieve in him before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection,he(`sã)shall be a witness against them(4:159)

Brother please click on chapter 4 An Nisa and Verse 153-169. Go to page 183 and read the tafseer from the following paragraph.

QUR’ÃN:Nay! Allãh raised him up to Himself; and Allãh isMighty, Wise:

Allãh has narrated this story in the chapter of "TheFamily of ‘Imrãn" where He says:And when Allãh said: "O ‘Īsã! I amgoing to take yo.....

In case after reading you don't get satisfied, let me know I will find specific authentic haidth on reappearance of Hazrat Ehsa (A.S).

Btw it is a common belief of Shia and Suni, Hazrat Esha (A.S) will reappear at end of times.

The belief of both sunnis and shia generally is that Jesus (as) will return at the end of time. The verses that are quoted in support of the second coming and against the death of Jesus (as) are not indisputable, the mufasireen differed on the meaning of these ayat. For instance when Allah 'raised him' it is not necessarily literal it could refer to the status of Jesus as the raising of Idris (as). That being said the second coming of Jesus (as) is clearly in many ahadith, mufti abu layth would reject them. I think this starts to touch upon the problematic nature of hadith in general.

The following tradition of the Holy Prophet (S) describes the other 'Specific Signs' of Qiyamat:-

Hudhaifah bin Usaid al-Ghifari (RA) said that once the Holy Prophet (S) came to us and we were talking. He asked us what we were talking about. They said, “We were talking about Qiyamat.” The Holy, Prophet (SAW.) said:

“Verily it will not stand (it will not come) until you see ten signs before it.”

Then he described (1) The smoke; (2) and Dajjal; (3) and Dabbatul-Ardh; (4) and Rising of the sun from its setting place; (5) and coming down of Isa, son of Maryam;(6) and Gog and Magog; (7) and three land-slides, one in the East; (8) and another in the West; (9) and one in Arabian peninsula; (10) and the last of these Signs will be a Fire which will appear from Yemen and will turn the people towards their Mahshar (the gathering place in the Qiyamat).”

Ibid. pp 203 ff. Sahih Muslim, vol.8, p.173, Sunan Abi Dawud (Kitabu 'l-mlahim, Bab Imarat as- sa'ah)

Hudhayfah ibn ’Usayd al-Ghifari said, “We sat in the shadow of a wall in al-Madinah and the Apostle of Allah (S) was in a room. Then he appeared over us and said, ‘What are you doing?’ We said, ‘We are talking.’ He said, ‘About what?’ We said, ‘About the Resurrection Day (al-Sa‘ah).’

He said, ‘You will not see the Resurrection Day until you see ten signs before it, sunrise from the West, al-Dajjal and the beast of the earth, three lunar eclipses on the earth, one in the East, one in the West and one in the Arabian Peninsula and the emergence of Jesus the son of Mary (‘a) …”1

It is reported that Abu ‘Abd Allah (‘a) said, “Jesus the son of Mary is the Spirit of Allah and His Word. He was thirty-three years old in the world. Then Allah raised him to heaven. He will descend to the earth and it is he who will kill the Antichrist (Dajjal.)”2

It is reported that Jesus will say to al-Mahdi, “I was raised as a minister not as a commander.”3
