The execution of Imam Sadiq (as) on the New Year's Eve

It is narrated from Mu'ali ibn Khānis that he said: "I came to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) in the day of Nowruz saying:

Do you know what day is today? I said: your godfearing, this is the day that Ajam greets it and presents it. Imam Sadiq (as) said:

I swear to the Bayt Al'atiq that is in Mecca (Ka'bah), this is not for the old one, but I tell it for you to understand it.

I said: O my Master! If this is learned from you, it is more lovely for me than my living conditions and my enemies to die.

So Imam said:

Oh you Nowruz is the day when:

1. Allah took from the servants the covenants that they would worship him and not put him on a parable

2. Believe in the Prophets and believe in the Imams (AS)

3. The first day the sun has risen and the winds have been shot and the earth's ornament has been created on this day.

4. Day is the day when Noah's Ark was established on Mount Judy

5. It is the day when the Prophet (pbuh)  put Amir al-Mu'minin on his shoulders to stone and break the idols of Quraysh from the top of Beit al-Haram, and so on about Abraham (as)

6. The day when the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered his companions to swear allegiance to Ali (as) in the name of Amir al-Mu'minīn and on that day the second allegiance was made.

7. It was the day Ali (as) came to victory on  Nahrawan, and killed Zuthadiae (the owner of two breasts)

8. It is the day when the Qa'im and the Provinces of Allah arise and it is the day when our believer (peace be upon him) becomes vivtorious over the Dajjal , and he will kill him in the trash of Kufa, and he will not have the day of Norouz, Because that day is our days and our Shiite days that Ajam retained it while you were losing it.

And he said: A prophet of the prophets asked his Allah how he would revive this people who died and exited, which God revealed to him to give water to their graves. On this day, the first day of the Iranian year, they were resurrected and lived, with their number of thirty thousand, and so sprinkling of water in the tradition of Nowruz.

April 1
Description of occasion: Nowruz
Nowruz celebrates its origins in the traditions of the Iranian tribes, which is far away from the past, and according to historians, after Islam, the conquests and changes that have been made so far remain among the Iranians.Ancient Iranians believed that during the days of Nowruz, the spirits of the dead are returned to homes. For this reason, people should clean their homes in these days, make beautiful carpets and cook good food. At the dawn of Islam, Iranians who were in the center of the caliphate had their feasts in accordance with their national tradition. Seyyed Ibn Tavus, a Shiite scholar, writes about Nowruz: "On this day, people should as Mab'ath & Ghadir , with Dua and prayin &  fasting, d pray for the great blessings, using the best fragrances and wearing the purest Clothing to welcome that trend.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from abu Yahya al-Wasitiy from certain persons of our people who has said the following:

"Once abu 'Abd Allah, 'Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the case of Zoroastrians if they had a
prophet. He (the Imam) said, 'Yes, they had a prophet. Have you not heard about the letter of the
Messenger of Allah to the people of Makkah? He asked them to accept Islam, otherwise, war is
declared against you. They wrote back to the Messenger of Allah asking him to receive al-Jizyah and
leave them to worship their idols. The Holy prophet wrote to them, 'I receive al-Jizyah only from the
people of the book? They then wrote to him (the Messenger of Allah) to rebut him, 'You think that
you do not receive al-Jizyah except from the people of the book and then receive al-Jizyah from majus
(Zoroastrians) who have migrated? The Holy prophet wrote to them, 'majus had a prophet but they
killed him. They had a book, which they burnt. Their prophet brought them a book on twelve thousand
skins of bull?

Among the references that we have available, we weren’t able to find a hadith or saying from a faqih regarding this holiday before Sheikh Tusi (460 H.), who has narrated a hadith in Misbah Al-Mutehajjid from Mu’alla bin Khanees, from Imam Sadeq (as): On the day of Nowruz do ghusl and put on your cleanest and purest clothing, use perfume and fast for the day. After praying the nawafil(extra recommended prayer) and dhuhr and asr prayers perform four raka’ts of prayer. In the first raka’t recite Surah Hamd once and Surah Al-Qadr ten times, in the second raka’t recite Surah Hamd once and Surah Al-Kaferun ten times, in the third raka’t recite Surah Hamd once and Surah Attawhid ten times and in the fourth raka’t recite Surah Hamd once and Surah Annas and Surah Al-falaq both ten times and after prayer go to sajdah and do shukr (thanks) to Allah and ask Him to forgive the sins of fifty years of your life.[1]

Twelver Shia faith and Shia Ismaili faith[edit]

Along with Ismailis,[159][160] Alawites and Alevis, the Twelver Shia also hold the day of Nowruz in high regard.

It has been said that Musa al-Kadhim, the seventh Twelver Shia imam, has explained Nowruz and said: "In Nowruz God made a covenant with His servants to worship Him and not to allow any partner for Him. To welcome, His messengers and obey their rulings. This day is the first day that the fertile wind blow and the flowers on the earth appeared. The archangel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet, and it is the day that Abraham broke the idols. The day Prophet Muhammad held Ali on his shoulders to destroy the Quraishie's idols in the house of God, the Kaaba."[161]

The day upon which Nowruz falls has been recommended as a day of fasting for Twelver Shia Muslims by Shia scholars, including Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei, Ruhollah Khomeini[162]and Ali al-Sistani.[163] The day also assumes special significance for Shias as it has been said that it was on 21 March 656 AD that the first Shia Imam, Ali, assumed the office of caliphate.

ELEVENTH CHAPTER: NOVROZ & ROMAN CALENDAR MONTHS

AAMAL OF THE DAY OF NAVROZ

Addressing al-Mu’alla ibn Khunays, Imam al-Sadiq(a.s.) said: On the Nayruz Day (the 21st of March; the new day in the Persian Calendar), bathe yourself, put on the cleanest of your clothes, perfume yourself with the best fragrance you have, and, before everything, you must be observing fasting. When you accomplish the supererogatory prayers and offer the Zohr and Asr (obligatory) Prayers, add a four unit prayer, each two alone, in the first of which you may recite Surah al-Faatehah once and repeat Surah al-Qadr ten times. In the second unit, you recite Surah al-Faatehah once and repeat Surah al-Kafirun ten times. In the third, you recite Surah al-Faatehah once and repeat Surah al-Tawheed ten times. In the fourth, you recite Surah al-Faatehah once and repeat Surah al-Nas ten times. After accomplishing this prayer, you may prostrate yourself and say the following:

If you do and say so, your sins of fifty years will be forgiven. You may repeat the following saying as many as possible:

يا ذالجلال و الاكرام‏

14. Navroz Day

The day of Navroz is also among the best times for praying for His Eminence (aj) and for supplicating the Almighty Allah for his early reappearance. The report of Mualla bin Khunais quoted in Bihar1 and Zaadul Maad,2 proves this point. And its emphasis from different places of the report will show that if we think upon it, Insha Allah, the meaning will become clear to us.

Some scholars have noticed that the approach of Islam to national traditions, customs and celebrations is not necessarily a negative one. Confirm or reject them depends on its content. Islam has the same attitude to the era of Jahilism. Therefore, some believe that the New Year's Eve should be cherished due to its coherence with acts such as giving gifts, sacrifices, respect for the elderly, kindness with the younger ones, the purity and the adornment that is enjoyed by reason and religion. This confirmation is not until the establishment of the Nowruz celebration, it is not inflamed with superstition and unlawful practices. [37]

Nowruz in Sunni view
Some Sunni scholars have forbidden the celebration of Nowruz. [38]

[39] And they have said that if a person performs the Lord's worship for fifty years, then he is disobedient with giving gifts in the Nowruz, and his actions do not benefit him. [40]

The Taliban also, when they ruled Afghanistan, declared that Nowruz is innovation against Islam and heritage. [41]

I see in those narrations it is said :

- On the day of Nowruz , Imam al Sadeq (as) said : «Do this and that...»

And not

- Imam al Sadeq (as) said «On the day of Nowruz, do this and that...».

it is can be done in any day but the best day is Nowruz.

Nourooz is being celebrated in iran, Azerbaijan some parts of Russia and Afghanistan. Does it has some islamic background or it is cultural festival.

As some promote it as shia Eid.

It donot think it has to do any thing with shia islam.

Salam it is approved by Ahlulbayt (as) so there is no reason  to be against it as Ghadeer day which celebrates by shias & sunni muslims don't celebrate it anyway it's not an obligatory Eid but for its first day people can gain extra reward by doing its Islamic rituals.

NO.

NOUROOZ HAS NO ISLAMIC BACKGROUND. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SOME SHIA GIVE IT RELIGIOUS COLOR.

Ok. And?
I couldn't care less about what Wahhabis (or even general Sunnis) think, when it comes to the ahadith of Ahlul Bayt (as).

Just because they may disagree with some or many ahadith, it doesn't mean that we need to do the opposite and carelessly accept unacceptable ahadith.

In this case, as far as I know, there are zero authentic or acceptable ahadith regarding Nowruz.

As I said before it is not an obligatory act & also has no contradiction with shia Islam the authenticity of hadiths approved by Maraji & other grand shia scholars I don’t understand your disagreement with them.

I have a problem with confusing cultural traditions with religious traditions. Nowruz is an Iranian cultural tradition. It has nothing to do with Islam. There are zero ahadith from Ahlul Bayt (as) about it. There are, however, some ahadith fabricated in order to elevate the Iranian culture for a variety of reasons. We should be very clear and careful about distinguishing culture from religion.

That being said, happy new year to you and your loved ones.

Thanks for your response but hadiths about Iranians also mentioned in sunni sources with Sahih authenticity & can’t be labeled as fabrication for Shia scholars Islam is more important than culture not as Sunni scholars  which they try to twist hadiths in their favor if these type of hadiths were fabricated until now they would definitely  removed from shia Hadith sources.

I'm specifically pointing to ahadith about Nowruz and how none of them are authentic or acceptable.

I'm pretty sure this is not authentic, and it seems all over the place, interesting nonetheless:

84 – It is narrated from Shaykh Ahmad bin Fahd in Al-Muhazzab and others have narrated from Mualla bin Khumais from Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as) that he said: “The day of Navroz is the day when the Qaim and Wali Amr of us, Ahle Bayt (as) will reappear and the Almighty Allah will make him victorious over Dajjal and he will impale Dajjal at Kinasa in Kufa. We expect deliverance every year on Navroz, as it is our day, which the people of Fars have preserved, but you have wasted it.”

Me too, doesn't seem authentic. There are many other narrations, which say that Imam Mahdi (as) will reappear either in Ramadan or Muharram.

Ramadan & Muharram can be matched with Nowruz which after 1982 both of them matched with Nawroz & here is not any contradiction with. Awruz.

Aah, you're right. Forgot that Nawroz is a Solar Hijri calendar event. Kinda got it mixed up. So, yeah the reappearance that might take place in Ramadan or Muharram according to narrations, could coincide with Nawroz in that year.
