Islamic Movement in Nigeria condemns transfer of Sheikh Zazaky, wife to Kaduna prison

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) denounced the transfer of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife from the custody of Nigerian Department of State Security Service to the Kaduna central Correctional Service as ordered Thursday by the state high court.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria described the continuous detention of top Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat as one of the worst violations of the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the IMN spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, said that any attempt to take Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife to anywhere other than a hospital that is sufficiently equipped to handle their medical needs amounts to punishing them further.

The group also lamented that the facilities at the Kaduna Central Prison where the couple were taken to, are dilapidated.

According to the statement, it was in that very prison that some survivors of the Zaria genocide of December 2015 died due to lack of medical attention.

“It can therefore never be a substitute for appropriately furnished medical facility that can take care of their urgent medical needs,” the statement read in part, according to channelstv.com.

The IMN’s full statement is as follows:

Sheikh Zakzaky daughter calls for release of parents from Nigeria jail

Daughter of Nigeria’s top Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky called for the release of her parents after four years of detention on bogus charges.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Daughter of Nigeria’s top Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky called for the release of her parents after four years of detention on bogus charges.

Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, Zeena, have been in detention since December 2015.

Speaking at a press conference here in Tehran on Sunday, Soheila Zakzaky referred to the Nigerian army’s brutal attack on the Sheikh’s residence and nearby buildings in the northern Nigerian city of Zaria in 2015 and highlighted the inhumane measures taken by the army forces, including killing babies, burning the Sheikh’s followers alive and burying those killed in mass graves.

She said all of these cruel moves were made under the sham pretext that a plot had been hatched to assassinate the army chief.

Soheila further referred to a Nigerian court’s order in 2016 that Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife be released and noted that the Nigerian government has shamelessly refused to carry out the court order over that past three years.

She also voiced concerns about her parents’ deteriorating health conditions, including suffering from lead and cadmium poisoning, and said their health is in danger.

It is thus necessary to put more pressure on the Nigerian government to release them unconditionally, she went on to say.

Physician warns about deteriorating health condition of Sheikh Zakzaky

The health condition of Nigeria’s top Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky is worsening in prison, his doctor Naser Omar warned on Sunday, recounting the situation after Zakzaky’s four years of arbitrary detention in the African country’s prisons.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): The health condition of Nigeria’s top Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky is worsening in prison, his doctor Naser Omar warned on Sunday, recounting the situation after Zakzaky’s four years of arbitrary detention in the African country’s prisons.

“In the past years, and due to the [Nigerian] army’s cruel measures, Sheikh Zakzaky’s health condition has been severely undermined,” Omar said in a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday, attended by a number of the top cleric’s family members and relatives.

Referring to the recent transfer of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife to a dilapidated prison, the doctor said, “This is a prison where many detainees have so far died due to lack of medical attention.”

“Sheikh is suffering from lead poisoning,” he added.

The cleric’s daughter, Soheila Zakzaky, who was also present at the session, said after four years from the Zaria incident, the justice has not been served yet.

“The Nigerian government is seeking to slowly murder the Sheikh,” she said.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said diplomatic efforts are in progress to solve the problems concerning top Shiite cleric and leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said diplomatic efforts are in progress to solve the problems concerning top Shiite cleric and leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky.

Answering a question on Sunday about Sheikh Zakzaky, given a recent meeting between the Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs Mohammed Nahavandian and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on the sidelines of a summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Equatorial Guinea, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said, “In the recent meeting between Dr... Nahavandian and President of Nigeria, Mr... Buhari, various subjects were mooted in the area of economic relations and regional and international developments, as well as the issue of Mr... Sheikh Zakzaky.”

“Moreover, in the constant diplomatic meetings and contacts that we hold between Tehran and Abuja, negotiations about the Islamic Republic of Iran’s help in settling the problem is on the agenda, and we hope that the consultations and arrangements that are underway with the Nigerian government would expedite the resolution of the problem,” the spokesman added.

Sheikh Zakzaky, great model for freedom-seekers: AQR chief custodian

https://en.abna24.com/news//sheikh-zakzaky-great-model-for-freedom-seekers-aqr-chief-custodian_993383.html

Sheikh Zakzaky’s endeavors and sacrifices to promote Islam is worth introducing him as a model for the Islamic society, said Hoj. Ahmad Marvi, Astan Quds Razavi’s chief custodian in a meeting with Sheikh’s daughters at Imam Reza (عليه السلام) holy shrine.

Briefed by the family of Zakzaky over his health, Hoj. Marvi said: “The question of Zakzaky is a main concern for the Islamic Republic of Iran and Leader Ayatollah Khamenei”.

Highlighting Zakzaky’s influence on African nations, Marvi said: “Sheikh did a great job in Africa and could teach tens of thousands there; that’s why Islam’s enemies attacked him and his followers”.

He added: “Zakzaky’s revolutionary ideology cannot be destroyed. Foes are so stupid to think that killing of influential leaders will finish their path as Yazid thought that martyring Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) and his companions would be the end of Villayat and Imamate school of thought”.

Referring to him as the ‘Khomeini of Africa’, Marvi remarked: “Sheikh Zakzaky did a lot of great job for Islam and his endeavors and sacrifices can be a real model for the freedom seekers in the world; the thought Zakzaky triggered in Africa is flourishing day by day”.

The Nigerian Shia cleric, Sheikh Zakzaky, and his family have endured lots of afflictions. Six of his sons were killed by the army forces, and the Sheikh himself is in a tyrannous arrest now.

Elsewhere, AQR chief custodian stressed: “AQR will do its best to introduce Sheikh to the world as it recognizes him as an excellent model for the youths, clerics and the entire society. Imam Reza (عليه السلام) holy shrine establishment will also take its greatest efforts to get Razavi pilgrims familiar with Sheikh Zakzaky’s character and thoughts”.

Islamic Movement in Nigeria marks anniversary of Zaria massacre

Supporters of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky held a peaceful protest in Abuja to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the 2015 Zaria Massacre where over 345 people were killed at the hands of the Nigerian army.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA):
On that occasion, Nigerian soldiers attacked the worship center of the Islamic Movement and the home of Sheikh Zakzaky in the northern town of Zaria, detaining the cleric and his wife.

Thursday’s peaceful protest did not end well as Nigerian police clashed with demonstrators. They fired live rounds and used tear gas to disperse protesters.

Supporters of Sheikh Zakzaky called on the international community especially the International Criminal Court in The Hague to take action and hold the Nigerian government to account for its crimes against the Islamic Movement and its supporters.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Movement has issued a statement demanding the arrest and prosecution of the military officers involved in the 2015 Zaria Massacre.

The statement condemned the continuous detention of Sheikh Zakzaky and the persecution of his supporters by security forces.

14 killed in Boko Haram attack in western Chad

https://en.abna24.com/news//14-killed-in-boko-haram-attack-in-western-chad_994885.html

14 killed in Boko Haram attack in western Chad

More than a dozen people were killed in a Boko Haram attack on a fishing village in western Chad on Tuesday, a government official has said.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA):

"There were 14 dead, five wounded and 13 missing in the attack" near the village of Kaiga on the shores of Lake Chad, Imouya Souabebe, the prefect of the region, told AFP news agency on Wednesday.

Kaiga lies in marshland in a remote, sprawling region where the borders of four countries - Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Nigeria - meet.

The village is about 60km (35 miles) from the border with northeast Nigeria, the springboard for Boko Haram raids and kidnappings in neighbouring countries.

"We know that there are always Boko Haram elements moving around the (border) area, so they are behind this attack," Souabebe said.

"The attackers first came in a small group and then brought in reinforcements to attack the fishermen," he added.

The region's governor, Noki Charfadine, gave a toll of at least nine dead.

He said the attack had taken place in a "red zone, where fishing is forbidden."

Boko Haram launched its armed campaign in northeastern Nigeria in 2009, killing tens of thousands of people and causing millions to flee.

The spread of violence to Chad, Cameroon and Niger has prompted the formation of a regional military coalition, the G5 Sahel force, to fight the armed group.

Ayatollah Ramazani urges Muslim states to demand guarantees on Sheikh Zakzaky health

The Secretary General of the World Ahl-ul-Bayt (عليه السلام) Assembly urged Muslim countries to demand that Nigeria’s government ensure the safety and health of senior Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky.

Speaking at a forum in Tehran on Tuesday marking the 4th anniversary of the Zaria Massacre in Nigeria, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani said Islamic countries should use their social and political capacities and demand ensuring Sheikh Zakzaky’s health.

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press news agency on the sidelines of a press conference on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Zariya disaster and illegal detaining of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, Ayatollah Reza Ramezani, Secretary-General of the Ahl-ul-Bayt World Assembly said: "The Muslim countries have to follow up Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub Zakzaky's health and to make the Nigerian government accountable in this regard."

"The status of this prominent figure must be pursued through international organizations and should not be considered as a security issue," he emphasized.

"The international organizations must ask Nigeria's government to pay attention to Sheikh Zakzaki's physical condition and hospitalize him, as physicians and specialists have warned, his health is deteriorating, his left eye is getting blind, several bullets are left inside his body and he is prone to other illnesses," said Ayatollah Reza Ramezani.

"Ignoring the critical health status of Sheik Ibrahim Zahzaky by the international organizations can end up in irreparable consequences in the future," Ramezani warned.

According to the sources, recent X-rays show there are still 43 pieces of shrapnel left inside the body of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), who was seriously injured in a Nigeria army raid on his residence in the city of Zaria in 2015.

They also say the cleric’s left eye has been completely damaged by a bullet of the Nigerian army in the raid.

Sheikh Zakzaky's relatives have condemned the Nigerian government for refusing to allow the Sheikh to receive proper medical treatment despite his critical conditions.

They accuse the government of seeking his death in detention.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Three worshipers have been killed and 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries when suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers detonated explosives near a mosque in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, a civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) source said.

The civilian JTF member who participated in the evacuation of victims’ bodies said female suicide bombers strapped Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to their bodies, which exploded before they got access into the mosque, and resulted to their instant death.

“The two female suicide bombers had manoeuvred their way into Gwoza town, to launch an attack during our morning prayers, but luck ran against them before they entered the mosque, as their IEDs exploded outside but the explosion destroyed the mosque completely.

“A 12-year-boy was killed and 13 worshipers were injured due to the magnitude of the explosion. The victims were taken to hospital for immediate treatment” the civilian JTF member said.

Sheikh Zakzaky followers voice solidarity with Indian Muslims (+Photos)

According to al-Ahed News website, the rally was held in the city of Kano on Friday.

The demonstrators chanted slogans condemning the recent anti-Muslim violence in Delhi and other parts of India.

Violence erupted in the Indian capital last Monday, leading to a three-day-long rampage, with Hindu mobs attacking Muslim homes, shops and mosques.

The attacks were carried out on protesters, who have been rallying against a new citizenship law, after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kapil Mishra threatened peaceful sit-ins would be removed from the streets.

The violence in Delhi killed at least 50 people, and injured hundreds.

It is interesting to note that Human Rights Watch (HRW), a well-known front for the U.S. Government, has been actively promoting the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN). For example, this article criticised the arrest of Sheik Zakzaky and the banning of the IMN. Other critical articles on the crackdown and/or Nigerian policy generally appeared here and here. Despite being portrayed as a grassroots organisation, the IMN, despite repression, was able to build up a large infrastructure in Nigeria, and is now being openly backed by a known instrument of U.S. officialdom. HRW also promoted the West’s “Arab Spring” via the Muslim Brotherhood and is known for its anticommunist, pro-capitalist history. (Notably, Sheik Zakzaky originally worked with the Nigerian offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.) The U.S. thus appears to be promoting both Shia and Sunni (Wahhabi–Salafi) religious movements in Nigeria, in order to counter the possible appeal of Marxist-Leninist groups, at a time of economic downturn in the region.

Similarly, during the 1970s, the U.S. promoted the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood to divert popular discontent into Sunni–Shia sectarianism instead of scientific socialism. (For instance, Israel and Saudi Arabia sponsored the rise of MB offshoot Hamas to counter the secularist, nationalist Palestine Liberation Organisation, as well as to exploit cleavages between the Soviet-linked Syrian and Western-backed Iraqi Baathist factions under Hafez al-Assad and Saddam Hussein, respectively. During the Iran–Iraq war, the West, Israel, and the “Sunni” Wahhabi–Salafi monarchies worked with Iraq to unleash the MB against Assad’s Syria, which, along with Gaddafi’s Libya, lent diplomatic support to Iran at the time.) The U.S. initially sponsored an alliance of the Iranian bourgeoisie, including the clergy, to replace the Shah and counter the pro-Soviet Tudeh Party, but this failed when the Tudeh sided with Imam Khomeini during the hostage crisis, which unseated the pro-Western Bazargan faction. Later on, however, the West, while largely opposing Imam Khomeini, found common cause with the regnant clergy against the Tudeh.

Prior to 2009, the IMN gave birth to armed movements affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, some of which split off from the Shia factions to form Wahhabi–Salafi groups such as Boko Haram. The latter then began to attack their former Shia patrons, owing to Western, including Israeli, influence vis-à-vis Saudi Arabia and Qatar, both of which have financed the arming of Boko Haram and the spread of its Wahhabi–Salafi ideology. Prior to this point, however, the Muslim Brotherhood united both Sunni and Shia factions against both secularism and certain foreign monopolies, especially in the energy sector(s)—not just in Nigeria, but also on the matter of revolutionary Iran. Hence Imam Khomeini praised some of the ideas of Sayyid Qutb and published his work(s) in Iran. However, Qutb himself, like the Muslim Brotherhood, had ties to Western intelligence and was promoted by Saudi Arabia and Israel against Egyptian nationalist Gamal Abdel Nasser. Despite his public opposition to Masonry, documents have shown that Qutb was a known Freemason.

Boko Haram 'kills 69, razes village in northern Nigeria'

Quote

The men attacked the village of Faduma Koloram, in Gubio local government area of Borno state, starting about noon.

They arrived in vehicles and on motorcycles, shooting with AK-47s, razing the village and stealing 1,200 cattle and camels. A resident, a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) member and a soldier each confirmed the same account.

They said the men attacked because they suspected residents of sharing information on Boko Haram’s movements with security authorities.

“It’s an unfortunate day for us to witness this,” said CJTF fighter Kachallah Bumu. While he said the residents were armed, and had repelled previous attacks, this one caught them off guard.

“They took us unaware and killed our people,” he said.

A military spokesman could not be reached for comment.

20 soldiers, 40 civilians killed in attacks in Nigeria

Quote

The attacks, in the Monguno and Nganzai local government areas, came just days after armed militants killed at least 81 people in a raid on a village in a third area, Gubio.

Two humanitarian workers and three residents told Reuters that armed militants with heavy weaponry including rocket launchers arrived in Monguno, a hub for international non-governmental organisations, at roughly 11am local time (10:00 GMT).

The militants then overran government forces, taking some casualties but killing at least 20 soldiers and roaming the area for three hours.

The sources said hundreds of civilians were injured in the crossfire, overwhelming the local hospital and forcing some of the injured to lay outside the facility awaiting help.

The militants also burned down the United Nations' humanitarian hub in the area and set on fire the local police station. Militants distributed letters to residents, in the local Hausa language, warning them not to work with the military or international aid groups.

Militants also entered Nganzai at about the same time on Saturday, according to two residents and one Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) fighter. They arrived on motorcycles and in pick-up trucks and killed more than 40 residents, the sources said.

A military spokesman did not answer calls for comment on the attacks. UN officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Boko Haram and its offshoot, ISWAP, have killed thousands and displaced millions in northeastern Nigeria.

ISWAP claimed the two Saturday attacks, and the Gubio attack.

Islamic Movement in Nigeria calls for Sheikh Zakzaky's immediate release

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Sheikh Zakzaky supporters in south West Nigeria and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria held a press conference and asked the Nigerian government to release religious leader in view of his deteriorating health condition.

During the presser, the speakers said Sheikh Zakzaky and his supporters have suffered a brutal crackdown in the hands of soldiers of the Nigerian Army, where not less than one thousand the Islamic cleric’s supporters were killed in cold blood.

In a statement the Islamic Movement said over two hundred of Sheikh Zakzaky’s supporters have been freed by the courts for the same cooked up charges that the Islamic cleric is being tried in court.

The Islamic Movement noted that all request by the Zakzaky legal team to the Kaduna state government to secure a new date for the continuation of his trial have come to no avail in total disregard for Zakzaky’s health.

The Islamic Movement said the arrest and continuous detention of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, irrespective of their deteriorating health, are in total disregard for the rule of law, and commitment to impunity by the Nigerian government.

Nigerian government must be held accountable on Zaria massacre

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Participants in a meeting held via video conference by the Islamic Human Rights Commission underlined that the Nigerian government must be held accountable on the massacre of Shia Muslims in an army attack in Zaria.

The meeting was held Sunday to discuss the lHRC’s latest report on the Zaria Massacre.

Caterina Aiena author of the IHRC report, Femi Fulana the head of Sheikh’s legal team, Jummai Karofi who witnessed the Zaria massacre and Dr. Kazim Dhalla who led a medical delegation to visit the Zakzakys last year attended the event to discuss the report and what needs to be done to end this injustice.

It was also joined by Suhaila Zakzaky, the daughter of the imprisoned leaders of the Islamic movement and was moderated by Raza Kazim, according to IHRC’s website.

In his remarks, Fulana described the attack on Shias and Sheikh Zakzaky and his family as illegitimate, saying that the continued imprisonment of the senior cleric and his wife is also illegitimate.

He noted that in 2016, Nigeria’s federal high court ordered their unconditional release from jail following a trial, but the government has so far refused to set him free.

The lawyer underlined that the government of Kaduna State should launch an investigation into the 2015 army attack.

He also stressed that every possible way will be explored to hold the Nigerian government accountable for the massacre.

Kazim Dhalla, meanwhile, spoke about Sheikh Zakzaky’s health, saying he is feeble physically but is high in spirits.

He noted that Sheikh Zakzaky is suffering from liver problems as well as lead poisoning.

Suhaila Zakzaky in her remarks gave an account of the events on December 13, 2015, and the brutality of army forces in the attack on Shia Muslims in Zaria.

She stressed, however, that the resistance of Nigeria’s Shias and the Islamic Movement in Nigeria will continue.
