They started by preliminary check ups as they asked the Sheikh some questions on how he is feeling. The speed at which the specialists paid attention to the Sheikh speaks volumes. Prior to his leaving to India the Sheikh's health condition was serious especially during his last appearance at Kaduna Court.

Lies, Calumny, Blackmail: “Islamic Movement in Nigeria is not a Shi’a organization” –Elrufai and Gang PDF Print E-mail

By Abdulmumin Giwa
In their efforts to convince Nigerians as to why they are in an all-out war with the Islamic Movement Nigeria under the revered leadership of Sheikh Ibrheem Zakzaky (H), the government, especially the Kaduna state government, along with some half-baked, turbaned hungry scholars engaged themselves in feeding the public with lies, calumny and blackmail.

Actually, a general assessment of their mischief shows how they have failed to convince Nigerians woefully despite their relentless efforts. Hence, countering or responding to their lies became needless but for the need to put the things in the right direction.

The futility with which they are attacking and fighting the leader of the Islamic Movement and his followers has since displayed them in the eyes of the world as using the tool of authority to fight some personalized vendetta in fulfillment of some selfish whims and caprices and not because they care for Nigeria and Nigerians.

There are confirmed reports of Nigerian security interfering with shakyh Zakzakay's treatment in India. Shaykh and his wife are being harrassed by Nigerian security and Indian Army and there has been at least one incident of physical assault.

What I never understood was why was he taken to India of all places? Maybe that was the only place Nigeria allowed?

Sheikh El-Zakazky and Mallimah Zeenah have stated they will return to Nigeria rather than continue to be harassed and denied the medical care they require in India.  Video statements in Hausa and English have been released by the Sheikh and will be made available below.

The actions of the Indian authorities in facilitating the harassment of the couple at the hands of the Nigeria security services is extraordinary.  The restrictions placed on the couple seeing their own medical team, lawyers, advocates and even friends has meant that the couple have lost all faith in the process.

Why was he not taken to Iran for treatment? They apparently have very good and advanced medicine :einstein:

If not Iran, why not a western country with a good medical track record. Of all places India and at such a time too? (With all the rising anti Muslim and kashmir drama).

Very strange to be taken there, if it wasn't a condition of the nigerian regime

And this evening Shaykh Zakzaky is leaving! No word from the Shia minister, not surprising since he has more important business to attend to.

Salam going to India was his family & IMN  idea  because based on their research that Indian hospital has all condition for treatment based on his condition beside that if at begining they were asking to attend in Iran the Nigerian court & government definitely would reject their ask because Nigerian government is completely under influence of wahabi KSA at the end his presence in India would be helpful for Muslims specially Shias for decreasing anti Islam atmosphere of India & fighting with bizzare rituals like as Tatbir during his presence in India .

Sheikh Zakzaky's lawyer makes fresh demand from Buhari govt.

https://en.abna24.com/news//sheikh-zakzakys-makes-fresh-demand-from-buhari-govt_969764.html

Sheikh Zakzaky's lawyer makes fresh demand from Buhari govt.

Femi Falana (SAN), the lawyer to Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, has called the Federal Government to provide an alternative and adequate treatment for the couple in Nigeria.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): According to local sources, Femi Falana (SAN), the lawyer to Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, has called the Federal Government to provide an alternative and adequate treatment for the couple in Nigeria.

The Senior lawyer also said that he would file a fresh application for El-Zakzaky and his wife to be re-flown abroad for treatment if his demand was not met.

The leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky on Friday returned to Nigeria, after refusing treatment in India.

Recall that El-Zakzaky was granted leave for medical treatment by a Kaduna High Court on Aug. 5.

Subsequently, El-Zakzaky and his wife travelled to India via Dubai for medical treatment after the Federal Government and relevant agencies took steps to comply with the order in spite of protestation by Kaduna State Government.

Falana, in a statement yesterday, said: “It is disturbing that the planned medical treatment of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife in India was aborted and that they have since returned to Nigeria.

“However, in view of their critical health conditions, the El-Zakzakys and the Federal Government should urgently reach an understanding to facilitate their medical treatment in Nigeria.

“In other words, since the Federal Government is apparently not prepared to allow the couple to seek medical treatment abroad for fear that they may seek political asylum, the authorities should provide adequate medical equipment for their treatment in Nigeria without any further delay.

“The unfortunate episode had embarrassed the Federal Government and that Nigeria has become a laughing stock to the extent that her leaders and citizens (who have the financial wherewithal) have to travel abroad for medical treatment.

“For goodness sake in what way was the Indian Government offended by the insistence of the El-Zakzakys to be treated by doctors of their choice?”

Iranian academics ask for more efforts to free Sheikh Zakzaky

Iranian academics ask for more efforts to free Sheikh Zakzaky

Tens of Iranian university professors in a letter to their counterparts in Nigeria underlined the need for more efforts to free detained Nigerian Shiite leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who is suffering acute health problems.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Tens of Iranian university professors in a letter to their counterparts in Nigeria underlined the need for more efforts to free detained Nigerian Shiite leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who is suffering acute health problems.

"The history of Islam has always been witness to the struggle between the freemen and the tyrants and of course the consciousness of the thinkers of the society is a barrier to the oppressors’ ambitions," the letter by 50 Iranian academics in Isfahan province's universities said on Monday.

"Today, on the eve of Eid al-Ghdir we observe the manifestation of their arrogance in the measures taken by the Nigerian government against the Sheikh al-ahrar, Ibrahim el-Zakzaky. We feel to be bound to use our pen and tongue to support this great man. Islam has taught us that the ink of the scholar is holier than the blood of the martyr," it added.

"We the academic staff of the Iranian universities request you to take action and demand that the Nigerian authorities release Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife. We urge you to use all your powers and influence to help bring about a swift and peaceful resolution, the letter said, addressing the Nigerian scholars.

"Our responsibility is very serious. Today, if we let them realize their wicked purpose to silence and drown out Zakzaky’s voice, tomorrow they will dare commit more violent crimes against Muslims around the world. Our attempts to perform this divine responsibility will bring about victory; In shā Allāh," it added.

They also called on the Iranian Foreign Affairs to take big and rapid legal strides to free the detained leader of the Islamic movement of Nigeria, Allameh Zakzaky, so that he can receive immediate life-saving medical treatment.

Sheikh Zakzaky, a prominent Shiite leader, has been in detention along with his wife for close to four years despite the deterioration of his health conditions.

Last Tuesday, in an exclusive interview with FNA, Dr.. Pourrahim Najafabadi, MD, said Sheikh Zakzaky needs to be cured by an experienced medical team of physicians in a specialized multi-specialty hospital outside Nigeria, since there is no such medical center in the African country.

"With the current physical condition of the Sheikh, especially the virulent lead poisoning, Sheikh’s life is seriously at risk by delayed treatment. Meanwhile, there is a need for special medical care even in case of complete medical treatment. There is serious risk to Sheikh’s life if he is kept under detention,” said Najafabadi, the founder and spokesperson of a group of expert physicians who have volunteered to treat Sheikh Zakzaky.

Also, last Sunday, a group of doctors from Pakistan, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq in a letter to the Nigerian government pointed to Sheikh Zakzaky's physical conditions, and asked the Nigerian government to transfer him to a well-equipped hospital as soon as possible.

Finally, the Nigerian government allowed Zakzaky to be treated in India but the senior cleric decided to return to Nigeria after being pressured in India.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, in an official statement, rejected the claims spread by state-sponsored media about the reason why Zakzaky cut his treatment visit to India short, revealing that the decision was made after it was found that Abuja was planning to murder the cleric in India.

Sheikh Zakzaky was, from the very beginning of his travel to India, bothered and pressed by the hostile decision of the Nigerian government, according to a Friday statement signed by Ibrahim Musa, the President of the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

The movement added in its statement that even upon returning from New Delhi, the top cleric was denied a chance to talk to reporters and journalists who had been waiting for his return at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport for hours.

The IMN condemned the move, and added that it was intended to prevent Sheikh from revealing some realities about his difficulties in New Delhi, and to pave the way for spreading disinformation against him.

According to the statement, upon arriving in New Delhi, Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife were separated from the doctors who accompanied him from Nigeria and were forcibly taken to a hospital which held no respect for the basic rights of patients.

Even a doctor who had flown from London to New Delhi was not allowed to meet with Sheikh Zakzaky.

It asserted that Nigerian agents’ insistence on not allowing Sheikh Zakzaky to meet with his doctors reassured the cleric and his wife that Abuja was planning to kill him in the Indian hospital with the help of their connections and operatives in the place.

Many questions have been asked about the background of the latest campaign to get medical treatment for Shaykh Zakzaky and why the choice of India was made. Below is a summary to help explain some of the circumstances:

1. In early 2019, news was circulating that the health of the Shaykh was deteriorating in prison and pressure was put on Nigerian authorities by the Shaykh’s legal team to allow for an independent assessment to be made by private doctors. This continued pressure brought about a decision from the Nigerian courts to allow the Shaykh a visit from doctors of his choice.

2. In extraordinary circumstances, in April 2019, IHRC sent a group of doctors to Nigeria with the hope of assessing Shaykh Zakzaky. This was a dangerous mission and it was unknown whether it would reap any fruit. In fact, even seeing the Shaykh was unlikely. However, with persistence, Massoud Shadjareh, the head of IHRC, along with a group of doctors from India, were able to persuade authorities to visit Shaykh Zakzaky. This was the first time any foreigners were allowed to see Shaykh Zakzaky and even the first time an independent photograph was taken of the Shaykh since the Zaria massacre. This allowed for an opportunity to medically examine the Shaykh, take samples for the labs and with rudimentary equipment do some tests. The group was only in Nigeria for a short number of days and their limited access to the Shaykh ended.

3. Weeks later, the results of the medical assessment became apparent and we were told that Shaykh Zakzaky had many health complications, including bullets lodged in his body, eyesight problems, diabetes and heart problems. But most worrying was the significantly high amounts of lead poison found in his blood. We were told that untreated, this would kill him within a short period of time.

4. The legal team made their case to the Nigerian courts that Shaykh Zakzaky needed urgent medical attention. Their initial demands were rejected as unfounded, without evidence. Thereafter, following  much negotiation, a medical report was made by the group of doctors who initially assessed him and was presented to the Nigerian court. The report proved that the Shaykh was in need of urgent medical treatment and that such treatment was unavailable in Nigeria.

5. The courts agreed to hear the case and the legal team prepared its documentation. Multiple countries were approached to see which could provide Shaykh Zakzaky with the required travel permission and medical treatment. However, based on the legal team’s assessment and after various considerations, India became the only viable country to consider. There were reasons for this: Firstly, the situation was time critical due to the Shaykh’s deteriorating health. Secondly, by chance the group of doctors that initially managed to assess the Shaykh, came from India and they were the people who wrote the medical report and offered further assistance. Thirdly, the Shaykh himself trusted these doctors and asked that his medical treatment be done through them. And fourthly, India was a well known destination for medical tourism. In any case, IHRC were looking for other viable options as well, and the factors to consider were the expertise of the doctors, their familiarity with the case, finding a suitable hospital, and to have doctors that could be trusted to handle this important personality. However, at this junction, the courts had already agreed to hear the case based on the findings from the Indian doctors. To change paths would mean that the window of opportunity could shut and not be opened again. From a legal standpoint, this was the only opportunity and as such things proceeded. In spite of this, various other countries were being worked on as secondary options, in case of a scenario where they could be viable options.

6. Knowing full well that the situation was critical, the Free Zakzaky Global campaign was mobilised with activists around the world starting their campaign. It was clear to us that Shaykh Zakzaky and his legal team were asking for him to be freed in order to receive urgently needed medical attention, and as such those were the campaign demands too. The global campaign focused on protests in different world cities including in London where activists started a permanent protest outside the Nigerian High Commission. Meanwhile in Abuja, thousands of Shaykh Zakzaky’s supporters protested in the streets unfortunately resulting in the Nigerian army killing scores of them. In addition to protests, a sustained online social media campaign was underway which internationalized the case of Shaykh Zakzaky.

7. In Nigeria, court proceedings included many adjournments, deliberations between the legal team and the Nigerian government’s prosecution and out of court negotiations. Admist these sessions, another court decided to issue a statement proscribing Shaykh Zakzaky’s movement as a terrorist organisation further complicating matters. Nevertheless, the judge finally concluded and issued a verdict on Monday 5th August granting Shaykh Zakzaky permission to travel for medical treatment. However, this permission restricted his travel to India alone and more specifically to the Medanta Hospital. In addition, the court said that Nigerian officials would ‘supervise’ his visit. Although Medanta was not the preferred choice, and it was chosen by the Nigerian authorities, the Shaykh was left with a decision, either to stay in detention in Nigeria or to embark on this trip to the Medanta Hospital in India. He chose to travel to India. The understanding was that Shaykh would travel on his own expense to India and receive treatment from his own trusted doctors.

8. Upon hearing this news, campaigners around the world were joyous at the breakthrough. Shaykh Zakzaky was to get the urgent medical treatment he sought after, and for us that was a victory. It was a breakthrough in a campaign which included London activists finally ending their 24/7 protest that lasted 33 days outside the Nigerian High Commission.

9. On Monday 12th August, Shaykh Zakzaky was released from his detention facility and travelled from Kaduna to Abuja and then to India via Dubai. However, upon arriving to India, a series of complications transpired that made it apparent that this trip may not achieve its goals. Most noteworthy was that Nigerian officials from the Embassy and their security personnel were no longer simply ‘supervising’ but rather had taken control of all affairs related to the Shaykh’s treatment. They had liaised with Indian authorities such that they could act with impunity. Indian authorities were informed that Shaykh Zakzaky was a terrorist who needed heavy handed treatment. This was supposed be a trip for medical tourism, in which Shaykh had been granted permission to travel. It was not supposed to be a political or inter-governmental initiative with interference from government agencies and armed personnel who would harass the Shaykh and be abusive. The circumstances created by the Nigerian and Indian authorities ultimately prevented Shaykh from his chosen doctors, his legal team, his own security and his advisors, and thereafter tried to appoint their own doctors for him. Shaykh described his hospital room as yet another detention facility but even stricter than that in Nigeria.

10. At this point Shaykh could no longer trust the treatment he was being offered. The people who were responsible for poisoning him, killed his 6 sons, massacred thousands of members of his movement and who kept him unlawfully in detention for the last 3 and a half years, could not possibly be solely given the responsibility of his treatment in a foreign country without any supervision from his close advisors and legal team. This was unacceptable. The role of the cruel Nigerian security services went above and beyond simple ‘supervision’ and the actions of the Indian authorities in facilitating the harassment at the hands of the Nigeria security services was extraordinary, violating medical ethics and human rights of a patient. These circumstances were something no sensible person could continue to trust or have faith in.

11. The Shaykh put out video messages from his hospital room, describing his situation, explaining that he has been prevented from receiving adequate medical treatment for his needs due to the interference of the Nigerian authorities and declared his intention to return to Nigeria.

12. It is important to note here that Shaykh Zakzaky is an intelligent scholar and revolutionary who makes his own decisions. He is the leader of millions of people and is a wise decision maker. In no way, should anyone think that the respected Shaykh has other people or organisations telling him what to do or what to think. He receives advice from a number of sources, including from IHRC, IMN and others, but he was the person who decided to travel to India and he was the person who decided to return to Nigeria. And true to his word, he returned without medical treatment even though it meant walking back into his prison cell.

Muharram mourning ceremonies begin in Nigeria (+Photos)

Like Shia Muslims elsewhere in the world, Nigerian Shias began holding ceremonies to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) in the 680 AD battle of Karbala.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Like Shia Muslims elsewhere in the world, Nigerian Shias began holding ceremonies to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) in the 680 AD battle of Karbala.

Despite the crackdown by Nigerian army and security forces on Shias and supporters of senior cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, they organize the ceremonies like previous years.

The mourning rituals will continue until the tenth day of Muharram, known as Ashura.

In the ceremonies, the mourners beat their chest and recite elegies.

Yusuf Hassani, a supporter of Sheikh Zakzaky, has published online the following photos of the rituals in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

Muharram is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) and his companions.

The third Shia Imam (عليه السلام) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.

This year, Muharram began on Sunday, September 1.

Nigeria government forces kill 3 mourners on Ashura

Government forces in Nigeria have attacked mourners marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) on Ashura, killing at least three people and injuring many others.

(ABNA24.com) Government forces in Nigeria have attacked mourners marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) on Ashura, killing at least three people and injuring many others.

The mourners came under attack in cities and towns across four states, including Kaduna in Nigeria’s north, on Tuesday.

Reports said three people were killed and many more wounded in the crackdown.

Nigerian forces also used tear gas to break up the processions.

Witnesses said the capital, Abuja, was put on lockdown, with blocks set up to prevent Ashura mourners from holding gatherings.

The Muslims were mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)), along with his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against thousands of soldiers of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.

Citing its sources, the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) said last week that the Nigerian police were preparing to prevent and disrupt the processions.

The Nigerian government has banned the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and has incarcerated its leader Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky.

Nigeria’s military attacked the movement’s members in 2015 as they were holding religious processions, with Abuja alleging that the Muslims had blocked a convoy of the country’s defense minister. The movement has categorically rejected the allegation, and said the convoy had intentionally crossed paths with the IMN’s members to create an excuse to attack them.

Muharram martyrs laid to rest in Nigeria (+Video)

https://en.abna24.com/news//Muharram-martyrs-laid-to-rest-in-nigeria-video_975339.html

A funeral was held for three members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) who were killed by Nigerian security forces on the day of Ashura.

Police and security forces killed 12 of members and wounded 10 others during marches in the north of country to mark the religious commemoration of Ashura.

IMN Spokesman Ibrahim Musa said the Shia marchers were killed in the northern states of Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto, and Katsina on Tuesday.

The group was banned in July after police crackdown on its rallies held to demand the release of its leader. IMN said the police were responsible for the deaths of at least 20 people in July but the police gave no death toll.
