Why are we protesting?

On Dec. 12th, 2015, in an apparent premeditated attack, Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zazaky, a Shia Muslim leader in Nigeria has been attacked at his residence. The wounded Sheikh along with wife and children were abducted by the notorious Nigerian Army. The daughter recently released has confirmed the Martyrdom of the “Three” sons of Sheikh Al-Zakzaky along with many of his followers. Initial reports from Zaria also alluded to the murder of his wife yet refuted by the Nigerian Military. This tragic news comes on the heels of the assault on the Hussainiya Baqiyatullah, in which scores of Shia Muslims were killed by the Nigerian Army units under the pretext that members of the Hussainiya initiated an attack on the army chief's convoy with the intention to assassinate him - a charge vehemently denied by Sheikh al-Zakzaky. The Hussainiya was also later demolished by the Nigerian Government. The unconfirmed death toll is said to be in the thousands.

In a Press Release issued today, Dec. 23rd, 2015 the Islamic Human Rights Commission has confirmed that the Nigerian Army has also demolished the grave of the Sheikh’s Mother in an attempt to eradicate all signs and symbols of the Islamic Movement.

Sheikh al-Zakzaky has been instrumental in successfully leading the Nigerian Muslims in a peaceful and non-violent approach towards Islamic self-determination and battling rampant corruption. Consequently he has faced violence and has been incarcerated on multiple occasions in the past. Last year he had also suffered the loss of three of his children as they were gunned down after Quds Day demonstrations. The atrocities committed against our brothers and sisters in Nigeria are unconscionable, We the Chicago Community of Shia Muslims calls on all people of conscience to stand up against this act of oppression and tyranny.

The satanist forces have shot themselves in their foot.

Now all that the nigerian brothers and the muslims need to do is nothing, but protest peacefully. The oppression and the propaganda of the satanists will be exposed on their own.

Those affiliated with the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) are not militants, they are not violent, they dont have a hidden agenda, they are not like boko haram. They are normal people, who simply wanted to commemorate the Holy Prophet and his Holy Family. All that the satanist elements of the Nigerian army claimed, has been proved untrue.

They know that they have lost, which is why, they are destroying the shia masjids. It is like an addcition. They are coming to their senses and now want dont want to live in a real world where oppressors lose. They want to stay in their own imaginary world where the IMN is an apostate organisation, the masjids are temples, the shias are trying to take over Nigeria militarily and ideologically etc. By destroying the masjids they are trying to get their fix.

The more peaceful the IMN protests are, the deeper will be the wound on the satanists.

Kevin Barrett's take on the Nigerian massacre

Quote

What we just saw in Nigeria was vastly worse than anything that the governments of places like Libya and Syria have done, marching on a peaceful religious group and just murdering hundreds and hundreds of people indiscriminately for no reason. Yet we are told in the West that we have this R2P responsibility to protect, meaning that the West has to go and bomb any countries that try to maintain an independent foreign policy and refuse to accept their vassal status.

Never heard until recently that such things were going on in Nigeria, this is unfortunate to hear. Is there any justification of why these Shias are being attacked in the first place? Political or religious propaganda? The photos and reports are quite shocking, beyond comprehensible. Would have thought some group like Boko Haram would have been targeting these people, but Nigerian Army? Hopefully all will come to peace and the authorities work out what's going on and try these trouble makers.

Of course Iran incites wars, Yemen and Iraq for example. Iran refused to allow Iraqi government to run its pace independently. Northern/Northeastern Iraq would be taken by ISIS too. In Yemen US is bombing AQ and ISIS every time they launch offensive against Houthis or pro-Hadi forces. Iran bought weapons from Israel during the war with Iraq. t

As for Israel, Iran has anti-Israel rhetoric for domestic purposes to try spreading Shiasm. It's ultimate goal is is resurgence of Persian Empire. This is not Islamic and Iranian nationalist. No matter what evidence is put forth over and over again, you will keep towing your line. Because you're an Iranian with Iranian agenda. Iranian regime just like Arab secular regimes will be destroyed and are all enemies of Islam and Muslims. Sunni islamists will form the Islamic State.

Hey! A wise man thinks before he speaks... u r supporting the oppressors(US) & condeming the oppressed... u r indirectly assisting their anti islam propaganda by sharing such negative thoughts of urs among the muslims. Do not be too myopic in ur judgement & if u r a true muslim, you'd encourage peace and unity among the muslims rather than pointing ur fingers at shiite muslims. You have no idea who's to paradise & who's to hell & u have no right to judge the shia muslims & others... if u are a real sunni as u claimed to be, (which i doubt) you'll eventually help in driving away the real enemies of islam (israeli jews & US hypocritic gov't) at least, by spreading mass awareness about the dangers of disuniting the muslim ummah as a whole.

Do u know who the shiites are? They're the lovers of the progeny of muhammad (SAW) as well as the haters of the enemies of Rasulullah (SAW). No more no less... refer to appropriate books of ilm & get rid of ignorance.

And the American gov't whom you are defending, are the masterminders of ISIS tafkiris. Refer to the recent confession made by an american ex-marine. He clearly knows that what the gov't are doing is against humanity & thats why his instincts motivated him to expose their conspiracies despite knowing that he'll be in great danger.

Lastly, i pray to Allah Almighty to expose the Satanic conspiracies of these illuminatis so that innocent & myopic people like you would be able to see clearly, where the forces of darkness are & where the forces of light are.

AN EXEMPLARY MUSLIM WHO STOOD FOR HUMANITY, TRUTH AND JUSTICE

Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky adopted the motto of enjoining of the good and forbidden of the evil among members of the society, his call is encompassing and open to all those who believe in humanity and justice, regardless of sectarianism and regionalism. He shunned against corrupt customs, traditions and ungodly way of life, asserting that human beings are either brothers in faith or brothers in humanity. He preached that men and women are created for the sole purpose of worship; all that makes one honorable in the sight of God is individual’s ability to excel in virtue, piety, spiritual and ethical qualities, he is of the opinion that positive thoughts leads human being to perform fruitful actions, so also filthy thoughts drive them towards impurity and defilement, for human beings are a thinking creatures; they first think, and then translates their thoughts into action and when negative thoughts make way and spread like weeds, positive thoughts are gradually eliminated and their place are taken by evil thoughts which blackens the heart and destroys social life.

The Sheikh disagree with any ideology that emancipate men and women and disengage them from their social and religious activities; he preached that religion is the landmark by which Mankind is guided and exalted, he assisted in creating unity and awakening among different religions, tribes and cultures across the country; He preached about unity among Christians and Muslims, and among Muslims themselves believing that Man’s real perfection lies in his ability to liberate himself from the clutches of ignorance, selfish motives and physical pleasures and in advancing on the part of humanity by improving his sensibilities, disciplining himself and becoming acquainted with higher ideas and a wider experience and thinking. Such means will keep people away from all kinds of deviation and pave way for people to manage their life (socially, politically and economically) in accordance with good moral rules and regulations. Sheikh Zakzaky often preach that one of the basic necessities of social life is learning to get along with other people, though one can hardly find two persons who have thoughts and feelings that are identical in all respects. It is rare to find people who are in complete agreement even in the most insignificant matters of life. However, one must try so far as one can, to get along with different kinds of dispositions and personalities, so that one can develop friendly and harmonious relations with associates.

Different conspiracy, blatant lies and social intimidation has always been launched against Sheikh Zakzaky and his followers, due to the fact that some people always have their own selfish motives to protect and for that, they will seek to dehumanize and condemn others, forgetting their own flaws in life. Yet, the Sheikh persists in enjoining other members of the society to move towards self-purification, and to ignore provocations because just as the Holy Prophet of Islam (SAWA) said “A time will come to my Ummah when holding on truth is like holding on a hot coal” because the road to truth is always a bitter and a difficult path. The students of Zakzaky often organize sensitive programs time to time, which enable them to adequately interact with other members of the society; they initiated different ideological and spiritual conferences and are actively engaged in academic activities, children educational and physical activities, gender issue, timely visitation of hospital and blood donation in the neighborhood. Through the activities of members of the Islamic movement, millions of people from different regions were able to understand that more than anything else, society for its survival needs men of discipline and fortitude who are never deterred by corruption and difficulties.

Sheikh Zakzaky has awaken (in so many people) the quest for justice to humanity, his preaching against corrupt practices reveals the conspiracies of some Nigerian politicians who are more of Western puppets used to exploit the country’s human and natural resources, some of whom are the medium by which Western allies communicate their selfish policies and deliver their oppressive system of governance and throw the country into chaos. Due to his stand for truth, the Sheikh and other members had faced great tribulations and persecutions, in recent years, many attempts have been made on his life at different times. Previously his three sons were brutally killed by the Nigerian army, recently his three more sons, his students and a thousand of his followers were shot and killed and their corpse still kept in captive, the grave of his mother, sons and followers were violated. Many of his followers have been wounded, imprisoned and denied access to medical care. Sheikh Zakzaky and his followers are not terrorist’ they are among the most peaceful people in Nigeria, and they only seek to practices Islam as ordained by the true teaching of the Holy Prophet of Islam, who lived peacefully and amicably with all other members of human race and religion in tolerance and justice. Despite the brutal killing of the Sheikh’s three Sons and some of his disciple last year, he never resorted to armed violence, his followers continued to engage in peaceful demonstration to voice the injustice melted out on them by the Nigerian military. What then is the Justification for the barbaric and brutal treatment of Sheikh Zakzaky and his followers? Why should Zakzaky and his followers still be in detention? Why are the wounded denied access to family and medical care?  Is it because Zakzaky stood for truth and Justice?

Sheikh Zakzaky's Daughter Utterly Worried about Her Parents' Fate

داماد زکزکی

Badia Ibraheem Zakzaky, daughter of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, expressed deep concern about her parents' fate after they were wounded and detained by the Nigerian army in Zaria region mid December.

"I don’t have any news on the fate and health conditions of my parents 40 days after the Zaria disaster," Badia said.

She also said that the fate of nearly 800 people of Zaria region who were killed or arrested by the army forces is still unknown.

Badia called on the international human rights organizations to act upon their responsibility and at least provide her with a chance to find and meet her parents.

The Nigerian army attacked two religious centers of the country's Shiite community on December 12, killing hunreds of defenseless civilians there. A few hours later on December 13, the military arrested Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky after raiding his house and killing three of his sons, assistants and followers.

Political activists said later that the Nigerian army forces buried and set fire on the corpses of those Shiite Muslims who had been killed during the recent raids in Zaria region.

"The Nigerian army has buried in mass graves and burnt a large number of dead bodies of those Muslims who have been massacred in the recent army forces' attacks," the activists revealed.

They said that the army was attempting to destroy every evidences of its crimes against the suppressed Muslim community, adding that if it had any convincing reason for the mass-killing, it wouldn’t resort to such methods to conceal its crimes.

Late in December, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria demanded setting up of a judicial commission of inquiry to probe the killings of their members in Zaria on December 12 and 13, during its meeting with House of Representatives panel.

The movement also demanded for the unconditional release of their leader Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife who have been in the custody of security agencies since the incident.

Members of the movement made the demand when they appeared before a House of Representatives panel investigating the matter.

Although the meeting was held behind closed-door, a lawmaker at the meeting said that six members of the movement including some lawyers, chairman of their medical team, an associate professor from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the head of their education section were present.

It was also gathered that the movement members demanded for the corpses of their members for proper Islamic burial as well as the release of the injured for medical attention, alleging that hundreds of their members are currently detained in Kaduna prison without being charged to court.

The source said they told the committee that the killings were premeditated based on the way and manner they were carried out and sustained for more than 48 hours.

They said there was no reason for their leader and his wife would be held in custody for weeks without any information on his whereabouts without being charged to court.

It was wrong, they added, for anybody to refer to them as a sect, but that they are a movement comprising of adherents of Shiite, Sunni, Tijjaniyya and even Christian priests.

The source added that they alleged that apart from killing scores and destroying their Hussainiyya center, soldiers also went to where Zakzaky’s mother was buried and tried to exhume her body and also destroyed their cemetery at Darur Rahma along Jos-Zaria road.

They further said that when the killings were going on, personnel of the Red Cross who attempted to render help to the injured and evacuate those killed were denied access by soldiers.

After listening to their submissions, the committee chairman Rep Aminu Sani Jaji (APC, Zamfara), said his committee would do a thorough investigation.

He said his committee would intervene for the release of Sheikh Zakzaky and other members of the movement in detention.

The lawmaker said the committee would also visit the movement Hussainiyya, Zakzaky’s residence as well as the Darur Rahma, and other affected places to see for themselves.

He promised that he would ensure that justice is done no matter which of the two sides is found guilty.

May Allah protect him and his family and will be saved from the hands of the enemy of Islam. After some months, it is clear for many people that Saudi Arabia is behind this issue. They want to instigate Iran to new tension and Iran so wise to step to this plan.

But here only one thing is strange remarkable for me that where are the Defenders of Human Rights. Many innocent people and children and women have been killed and some people arrested like Shaykh Zakzaki, but i haven't heard any news and voice from them. This act shows that human rights is a concept which they follow their desires and purpose by this word. They look at the situation, if it is against desires, so they will become silent and if it is in the direction of their purpose they shout the word of human rights.

I think we are as Muslim, not a Shia; we have to shout the voice of oppressed people in this event by our sites, discussion, and lecture. When we form a movement against the oppressors, they don't have any remedy except to announce about the fate of arrested people.

Another point that is the reaction of Islamic country and the Organization of the Islamic Conference which were silent about this important issue was so strange. Sometimes they are so sensitive to non-important issues, but here that the many innocent people killed, it wasn’t condemned.

Nigeria: Court Turns Down Shi'ite Leader El-Zakzaky's Bail Application

By Kunle Olasanmi

Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has turned down a request by the detained Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, seeking his immediate release from detention by the Department of State Service (DSS).

El-Zakzaky, who is the leader of the Shi'te movement in the country has been in detention since December last year with his wife, after a violent clash between members of his sect and the Nigerian Army.

Hundreds of people were reportedly killed in the clash.

The pair had filed a suit against the federal government challenging their continued detention by the Nigerian Army.

Justice Okon Abang in his ruling yesterday, said El-Zakzaky ought to have obtained the leave of court for the matter to be heard during vacation since it was initially assigned to Justice Gabriel Kolawole by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

He explained that the applicant failed to serve the DSS, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation joined as respondents.

Abang, therefore, said that the application was not competent and struck out the application.

The Shi'ite leader is being charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbances among others.

The Shi'ite members had clashed with the Army late last year during which hundreds of people were reportedly killed.

Sheikh Zakzaky has been in custody since Dec 12, 2015 without any charges

December 12, 2015 was a dark day for the Shia Muslims of Nigeria. Dubbed as the Zaria massacre, hundreds of mourners of Imam Hussain (as) were killed in cold blood by the army and their influential leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky was attacked and shot while he was in his home.

To this day, the army nor the government of Nigeria, have provided any convincing evidence or reason for the massacre. Sheikh Zakzaky has been incarcerated ever since and there are reports that he has been blinded in one eye and suffering with much hardship in the prison system with little medical attention.

Muslim Congress voiced its opposition and condemned the massacre then and we continue to demand of the Nigerian authorities to release Sheikh Zakzaky, his family and all innocent people held without charge.

On the first anniversary of that brutal and bloody day last year, Muslim Congress declares the 12th of December 2016 as a "National day of Resistance and Protest" against this injustice and oppression and for the immediate release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.

We pray that may Allah protect him and return him and his family safely back to his residence and continue to lead the peaceful Islamic Movement of Nigeria on the path of the Ahl ul Bayt (as).

Nigerian Authorities Urge Prosecution of Sheikh Zakzaky

News ID: 1259862 Service: Other Media
December, 06, 2016 - 16:20

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Authorities in a Nigerian state have called for the prosecution of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who was recently ordered to be released after nearly a year of detention without trial.

The government of Kaduna State on Monday said Zakzaky should be put on trial for the alleged "lawlessness" of his group, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), for the past 30 years.

In October, authorities in the state declared the mainstream Shiite group as illegal as part of the state crackdown against the Muslim community. On Monday, the Kaduna government accused the group of "allegiance to a foreign power."

The news comes few days after the federal high court of Nigeria ruled that Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, should be released unconditionally.

The prominent cleric and his wife were taken into custody on December 14, 2015, after deadly clashes between the supporters of the IMN movement and Nigerian troops.

Nearly 350 members of the Shiite movement were killed in the clashes. The sheikh was brutally injured and his house was reportedly destroyed by the army in the incident.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole said he had given 45 days for authorities to provide new accommodation for the Zakzaky family. The judge also said the state security service would pay Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife $78,984 each in compensation for the violation of their rights by being held in unlawful custody for nearly a year.

Monday’s call could threaten the release of Zakzaky as the Kaduna government could bring charges against him, according to Press TV.

Last month, nearly 100 IMN supporters were killed when Nigerian forces fired live rounds and tear gas at mourners during a peaceful march ahead of the Arba’een mourning rituals. Authorities also destroyed a number of buildings belonging to the IMN.

The Nigerian government has stepped up its crackdown on the IMN since the December 2015 deadly incident.

Although a court ruled to remove the detention of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the government has kept him detained. His Shiite followers and others have protested continually to have him released. Reports on his medical condition say that he has already lost the use of an arm and one of his eyes, and his aides fear that he could lose his sight completely if he doesn't receive the urgent medical treatment he requires and which the government has so far denied him. Political organizations, human rights groups, Muslims and non-Muslims worldwide have called for his release. Instead of being released as the court had ruled, he has been illegally detained and the government plans to put him on trial.
