Sheikh Zakzaky's Son: My father still suffer life threatening health challenges due to injuries, imprisonment

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): This morning, I began to receive calls from concerned people, about a rumour currently circulating that my father is either critically ill or worse. Because of this I contacted the prison authorities and they allowed us to go and see them. In fact I just left less than an hour ago.

While my father dose indeed suffer from a number of potentially life threatening health challenges due to his injuries and his imprisonment, none of that is new. The rumors are simply just rumors.

It must be made very clear that this rumour seems to be an intentional attempt to cause unrest or to exploit the current situation in the country in an attempt to disturb the peace and sow chaos. Which has never been and will never be my father's way or that of his supporters.

Compare between Nigerian police brutality in Lagos with massacre of Shia Muslims in Zaria

Quote

Today they're in some major roads in Lagos,Abuja entrance blocked, Singing... they're not Gambaris (Hausa's) where blood is chef, Sauthners Bloodshed will never go on vain, Pictures showed the coward, clueless security operatives are following them, pleaded and begging them up and down, and in Lagos they possed people stay indoors.

Same story happened in North, More than 2000+ innocent, unarmed Shia Muslims were massacre in #Zaria 2015 instructed by the same Northerner Nigerian President Tyrant Buhari, insisted of Hausawa tobe patriotic, majority kept silent, Is the Sheikh Zakzaky not from Arewa? Cluelessly praises the genocide, Some naive religions (Izala) scholars couldn't hide their happiness they even justify the killings.

Due to this animalistic behavior today Hausawa are no longer respected,or valued.

Press Conference on Sheikh Zakzaky's health condition, his safety amid malicious rumour / Over 55 bullet fragments still in his body (+Photos)

Quote

Rumour had it on the 24th of October, 2020 that Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky was either in a state of critical illness or a state worse than ever before. But a visit by his only surviving son, Mohammed, revealed that although the Sheikh and his wife are suffering from many life-threatening health challenges as a result of multiple injuries in their bodies, the couple are yet alive. After all, proper medical attention is what they need in earnest, not virulent rumour-mongering which is bad and unacceptable, particularly when spread by those in authority.

Sheikh Zakzaky is being affected by progressive glaucoma, cervical spondylosis and up to 55 bullet fragments with excessive lead and cadmium poisoning in his body. He has been suffering from sleep disorder, recurrent spiking hypertension, recurrent episodes of strokes, and just few months ago, his cardiac ischaemia and ventricular hypertrophy were found to deteriorate, he is now even requiring cardiac catherisation, thereby making him far more unfit to stand trial.

Nigerian forces arrest 750 suspected thugs in Lagos

Quote

Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu said operations were conducted against armed gangs in 14 districts.

Weapons, drugs and ammunition were seized, said Odumosu, adding items looted during two weeks of protests against police violence in the state were also confiscated.

Those caught will be referred to court, he said.

In Nigeria, troubles that began in 2008 with clashes between herders and farmers turned into kidnappings and robbery attempts beginning in 2015.

Last year, 3,188 people were killed in clashes between armed gangs in the country.

In the scope of Operation Puff Adder conducted between April and July last year, a total of 2,504 gang members were captured and 207 people who were kidnapped for ransom were rescued.

Sheikh Zakzaki’s trial postponed till Jan. 25

Quote

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Kaduna State High Court sitting in the state capital has adjourned the trial of the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaki, and his wife, Zeenat, till January 2021.

The presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, adjourned the trial during Thursday’s sitting.

On November 17, as the unjust trial of Nigerian Muslim leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky was supposed to set to begin, a number of supporters of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaki, including women, held placards and pictures of him in the Nigerian capital Abuja, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife.

Sheikh Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after an attack by army and police forces on his residence in Kaduna State in northern Nigeria. In this attack, a great number of people were martyred and wounded. Nigerian security and military forces also arrested Sheikh Zakzaky's wife, Malam Zeenat Ibrahim.

He also admitted that, “Having seen how Sheikh Zakzaky’s residence was very crowdy as his faithful followers trooped to his house, he has no option than to order his troop to start shooting. Nigerian court acquits Shia leader el-Zakzaky of all charges

Zakzaky and his wife were in detention since 2015 following a clash in which the army is said to have killed 350 people.

A Nigerian court has acquitted the leader of a banned Shia group Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) of all eight criminal charges against him, defence and prosecution lawyers said.

Ibrahim el-Zakzaky had been in detention since 2015 when he was arrested after a clash in which the army killed an estimated 350 people at an IMN compound and a nearby mosque and burial ground in northern Kaduna state.

Justice Gideon Kurada ruled there were no charges to answer and acquitted the pair. Prosecution lawyer Dari Bayero confirmed the ruling. A Reuters witness saw the couple leave the courthouse in a van driven by supporters.

IMN spokesman Ibrahim Musa said the ruling "a victory for perseverance in the face of extreme persecution." Zakzaky's supporters at the courthouse said they feared police would re-arrest him following his release.

The police and Nigeria's attorney general did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

TIMELINE: Ibrahim El-Zakzaky’s long road to ‘freedom’

Mr El-Zakzaky and his wife were arrested in December 2015, after the Nigerian Army extra-judicially killed over 300 followers of the Shiite cleric.

7 min read
Quote

The Nigerian Army accused Mr El-Zakzaky and his followers of attempting to assassinate Mr Buratai, but the Islamic movement said soldiers simply attacked “defenceless people.”

Sani Usman, the then army spokesperson, called the incident unfortunate, few days after it happened, adding that: “It is important to note that over the years this group has subjected ordinary citizens using public roads to untold hardship, delays, threats and disruption simply because they insist on using public space irrespective of inconvenience and hardship on other law-abiding citizens and motorists. This cannot be tolerated and must stop.”

Road blockades by the IMN during their processions had in the past resulted in clashes with local communities and travellers in many northern states.

A preliminary report by Human Rights Watch stated that Mr El-Zakzaky survived gunshot wounds following the army clampdown that killed over 300 members of the Shiite group.

The IMN, on its part, said over a thousand of its members were killed by the soldiers in the three days between December 12 and 14, 2015, mainly at its headquarters.

A judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Kaduna State Government confirmed 349 deaths – including a soldier. The 348 Shiites were secretly buried in mass graves by soldiers without family members’ permission, making it difficult to determine an accurate death toll.

A  Quranic teacher and member of IMN, Abubakar Zaki, told  Aljazeera television that he joined the movement in 1986 and claimed that “back then, the Nigerian government would even send boys to attack us.”

He said: “The tension is not between us and the Sunnis. Or us and the Christians. It is between us and those who hate the truth.

“The Islamic Movement of Nigeria is for everyone who wants the truth. It’s for anyone, Sunni or even Christians. We have a Christian forum. We have Christians who are members of the Movement. Sheikh el-Zakzaky is trying to unite everybody. Sheikh is very powerful. He has many followers.

A businessman and local politician, Adamu Salisu, wants a member of the sect to become president of Nigeria.

His words: “My brother was a Shia before me. My father is a Sunni imam and he told me if you practise what the Shia preach, people will turn against you. Evil people will go after you. My father told me that what the Shia are saying is not a lie.

“I  listen to  Sheikh el-Zakzaky and he speaks against stealing, corruption, and everything he mentions is found in Nigeria. So I removed myself from politics. I saw what was happening among politicians and I was disgusted. The corruption was of the highest order. I still play politics, but I know my limits.

Zakzaky’s many troubles with the authority

During the tenure of President Shehu Shagari in 1981, a year after the “ISLAM ONLY” procession, Sheikh Zakzaky attended a program in Sokoto where he delivered a lecture. He was arrested alongside a few others immediately after the lecture. They were subsequently arraigned before a  court and sentenced to three years in jail.

Quote

Although, there is no clear record of exactly when Sheikh Zakzaky started following the Ahlul bayt school of thought, his elder brother, Malam Sani Yaqub traced Zakzaky’s involvement with Shi’ism to when he graduated from the  School of Arabic and Islamic Studies (SAS) Kano.

He said:”When Ibrahim graduated from the School of Arabic and Islamic Studies (SAS) Kano, he started writing letters to different countries especially China and Iran, saying that  he developed interest in relating with China largely because China had revolutionalised her economy through agriculture and moved her people out of hunger.

“Iran was responding to his letters by sending their books to him; trying to lure him into their creed of Shiite. Because of that, he turned his attention to Iran, especially after the Ayatollah revolution in 1979. They started having meetings in England every year, before they moved their meetings to Iran. When Iran attained a certain level of development, he sometimes travelled there twice in a year.

“When we saw that, we decided to start counseling him, particularly with our teachers Malam Sani Abdulqadir and Malam Usman Maccido because even at that time we knew that Shia was not Islam. Based on that, we sat him down to tell him the implication of what he was doing. He kept saying that he was not into Shi’a, that he was only into the struggle for revival of Islam. This started in early 1980s. When we realized that he would not listen, largely because it involved a lot of money, we left him alone.

“But our eldest  brother, Malam Abdulqadir Yakubu, did not stop counseling him. In fact, about a week or so before their clash with the Army, our elder brother wrote him. In the letter, he told him that what they were doing was not part of Islam.

“Zakzaky believed that the establishment of a republic along similar religious lines in Nigeria would be feasible.”

Human rights activist revealed: Nigeria’s Kaduna state seeks to reverse Zakzaky’s release by filing new charge

August 3, 2021/in AfricaAll NewsFeatured 2Human rightsOther News /

SHAFAQNA- ABNA: A prominent Nigerian Lawyer and Human Rights Activist has revealed that the Kaduna state government has hastily filed a new charge against Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, and his wife in a desperate move to block their release.

Quote

Femi Falana, who led Sheikh Zakzaky’s defense team, said in a Sunday statement that contrary to reports that a new charge of terrorism and treasonable felony was filed after the Kaduna State High Court ordered the release of the elderly couple, it had been “hurriedly filed” on July 26 – two days prior to the ruling — in a desperate bid by the Kaduna state government to “frustrate the release of the defendants from further incarceration.”

Further slamming state government efforts to block the release of Zakzaky and his wife, Falana added, “In apparent disregard of the epochal judgment of the Honorable Justice Gideon Kurada, the Kaduna state government seeks to subject the defendants to trial under the Terrorism Prevention Act enacted in 2011 for offenses that were allegedly committed as far back as 2008.

Quote

“At last, we defeated them. we won,” the couple’s jubilant attorney Ishaq Adam Ishaq said on Wednesday, adding, “They have gained their freedom. They are now freed and with us.”

The couple were on trial on an eight-count phony indictment of alleged culpable homicide, disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly among others. They had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Quote

Reacting to Sheikh Zakzaky’s acquittal after nearly six years of incarceration, the London-based prominent Islamic human rights activist, Massoud Shajareh, said on Thursday that the ruling exposed “the abject failure” of Abuja’s incrimination campaign against the couple.

Nigerian Government Denies El-Zakzaky, Wife Medical Treatments Abroad One Month After Release

Musa stated that the medical records of the couple show that they both suffer from deteriorating health conditions and ought to have sought medical assistance outside the country.

Quote

The statement reads partly, “Four weeks after being discharged and acquitted by a Kaduna State High Court, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Malama Zeenah Ibrahim, are yet to travel abroad for medical treatment as their international passports are still being held by security agencies and a new one has not been issued to them.

“Both the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Security (DSS) have denied being in possession of the international passports of the couple.

“It is a known fact, however, that during the botched medical trip to India as granted by the Kaduna High Court, their international travel documents were promptly seized on arrival by these security agencies. Thus, who did they hand over to? That wasn’t too long ago not to remember or know.

Quote

“Muslim brothers and sisters of the Islamic Movement and other lovers of justice across the world are getting agitated once again because of these obnoxious developments including what appears to be placing the duo under house arrest by Buhari regime.

“Hence, we call on the international community to prevail on the government to release the passports of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife. We urge the Federal Government to release their passports to them or issue new ones to them, which will enable them to travel to the hospital of their choice without any further delay."
