I don't think there is absolute trustful news source in this world. I personally trust these two sources:

http://www.presstv.com

I think that even these two websites are not %100 trustful. People who make news on these websites are normal guys like you and me, and we are not infallible persons.

Salam. National Public Radio at npr.org is a nonprofit membership media organization. They try very hard to post all sides of a news story, unlike other news websites. Of course npr.org has so much news that it can get overwhelming. I listen to 'Up First' which is a ten minute radio news show that comes Monday through Friday before 6:00 AM Eastern Time here in the US. Up First

There are multiple, usually you should read multiple sources to form a conclusion, that's what academics like Chomsky do, and what they say is pretty uncontroversial. I think the best source for understanding the news is probably academics, they tend to be very analytical, and that's perhaps the best approach, they read all angles and form an opinion based on that. Not all academics, but some are spot on, no doubt.

Most people don't have the time or ability for this. They only have time for a few, easily digestible sources that can keep them informed during the day. They aren't seeking to become experts, just enough to have their head above water.

True, I wouldn't trust any state funded media or corporate media in that case, even though I do read RT, presstv, and telesur. But independent journalism, startups are probably your best bet. There's many in the US, the real news, truth out, media roots, consortium news, alternet etc.

NPR is "so whiney" these days. Plus inference is not "news" --as they do with many stories.

Those l like are: Reuters, Tass, Xinhua, NHK, VoA (usually --not anymore on their lranian 'news') and DeutscheWelle.

This is an excellent question and one I wish more people asked. I admire your search for truth and hope your journey is fruitful. 

As for me, I use Google News for general high-level news. It's easy to set up (link below) and aggregates a ton of news sources. I also use Radio Europe, Radio Free Asia, and the Associated Press when diving into issues.

Most corporate media outlets (like CNN and Fox News) and state funded media outlets (like RT and PressTV) are pretty horrible, extremely biased and dishonest in my opinion. Independent journalists and independent news organizations tend to be better but then you can get a lot of crazies there.

l do not think the outlets you wrote are "extremely biased" only slanted or self-aggrandizing.

However, they do headline stories we will otherwise miss.

Your best bet is viewer funded publications that do not rely heavily on advertising and corporate donations.  State sponsored press is generally not a good source, unless the state is democratic and accountable to the public.

Democracy now, truth out are good sources.  From for profit ones the independent has some of the best middle-east journalist contributing to it.

In any case you should expose yourself to all kinds of media to get a sense of the relative agendas being pushed.  It is not an easy task but if you want to be even moderately informed about the world, there is no other alternative.

No. A Good example of dishonest, state funded and pretty horrible is the BBC.

the ones you mentioned (press TV and RT) are ones I personally find useful and honest.  Especially presstv. They actually have debates between two different sides.

Then there are the "reporters". l saw NBC's Richard Engel in Jerusalem last night and the dummy didn't even know what he was talking about. One example, just one, he called the Dome of the Rock "al-Aqsa".

that list was aggregated by anti independent media clearinghouse. 

The professor associated eiwith the  original list was outed as being on govt payroll.

 

I think I counted 10 of the best websites for independent news. Use the list in the opposite way intended and you will be reasonably informed. 

Zerohedge, activistpost, Whatreallyhappened, Blacklistednews, whatdoesitmean, naturalnews, dailybail, sputniknewS, RT and presstv give alternative views of world away from corporate pro western pablum.
