My dream scenario: Iran gets 5 points. 1 goal scored. 0 goals allowed.

I would friggin love that.

Who should that goal be against?

I watched Iran vs Argentina highlights from 2014 and I was impressed by the way Iran counter attacked and held back the Argies. It took the best player in the world to win the game at the last moment.

Also, who else thinks Iran goalie Reza Haghighi is an absolute beast?

How good is the Iranian team?

It’s good at defense but need more training on Attacking line.

It was also a BS non-penalty earlier in the 2nd half. and before that Messi goal, a critical error by Javad. Otherwise it would have at least been a nill-nill draw.

Haghighi is no longer on the team, IIRC. We got some giant Lor playing goalkeeper.

The goal I would assume be against Morocco.

I think this is deliberate.

Well, that isn't very patriotic.

:ws:

You have a rather gloomy outlook on life.

:salam:

There have been numerous coincidences of IDF launching military operations on Lebanon (1982, 2006) and Palestine (2014) on the occasions of the World Cup.

This is not being gloomy, I am just persuaded that the forces of evil know how to manipulate the masses to their advantages.

Fun fact, during 2014 WC, the Lebanese, whose national TV channels did not have the rights for broadcasting games, used satellites to get zionist channels, while a few miles accross the border, Gaza was under a bloody siege.

And I will also mention here the quasi-religious status that many Muslims give to Football. Worshipping false saints and this golden Idol stuff. Allah speaks about those who take their "passions" as religion in the Qur'an.

And then we discuss about Chess being haram...

Never was a big fan of spending millions of dollars on a sport we aren't even good at.

Should have, and deserved, to beat or at least tie against Argentina four years ago

Broke the record (world record, mind you) for consecutive WCQ games without conceding a goal

I know it's not weightlifting, it's not wrestling. With all the dialed up expectations. "What? Only 3 medals?!?!? RIOT IN THE STREETS!!!!!" But Iran certainly does not suck at football.

Five world cup appearances, that makes them tied for 32nd. Meaning, on average, they are a world cup worthy team. Which is pretty huge. There are almost 200 national teams so Iran is in a very high percentile in this regard.

Re: millions. Well yeah sports cost money broham.

(BTW I met Kianoush Rostami and Behdad Salimi a couple months ago. It was awesome)

Watch out for France in this world cup.  They have a ridiculous amount of young talent.  As far as Iran is concerned, it is the world cup,  play well defensively and you can beat any big team on the counter on your day.

This.

This is what I am hoping for and this is what I think Quieroz is banking on.

Iraq deserves to be in the World Cup over Iran. We do very well in tournaments, as shown in the Asian Cups.

Curious to know what kind of metric you're using to say Iran doesn't belong.

1) not a single loss in 10 games of WCQ.

2) new record for consecutive games in WCQ without conceding a goal

3) doesn't deserve to be in world cup?

It's a bizarre conclusion to come to. Not counting the hosts, Iran was the second team to qualify, after Brazil. Completely dominated their group.

You're going to have to explain your reasoning to me.

Who cares

Lol

Out of all the infinite time-wasting, harmful, absurd things there are in the world, some folks just can't resist talking crap about sports.

If you don't like watching, don't watch. But saying "who cares" when literally billions of people care, is the peak of snobbitude. What's implied in the statement is: you're all wasting your time. You should use your time wisely, like me.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. Go watch netflix or something instead (which is what 99 percent of sport-haters do anyway). But coming into a discussion and offering this gem, this unique gem of wisdom is unneeded.
