Politics: An Islamic Obligation

I agree with the principle of this, that we can't twiddle our thumbs and say that it suffices, and that we have a duty to our religion. However I think there are times that we shouldn't revolt, because it can make things worse. It takes aql to analyze the situation I guess. For example:

. وعن علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن الحكم بن مسكين عن عبد الملك بن عمرو قال: قال لي أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: يا عبد الملك مالي لا أراك تخرج إلى هذه المواضع التي يخرج إليها أهل بلادك؟ قال: قلت: وأين؟ قال: جدة وعبادان والمصيصة وقزوين، فقلت: انتظارا لامركم والاقتداء بكم، فقال: إي والله لو كان خيرا ما سبقونا إليه، قال: قلت: له: فان الزيدية يقولون ليس بيننا وبين جعفر خلاف إلا أنه لا يرى الجهاد، فقال: أنا لا أراه؟! بلى والله إني لأراه ولكني أكره أن أدع علمي على جهلهم  ورواه الشيخ بإسناده عن محمد بن يعقوب وكذا الذي قبله.

And from Ali ibn Ibrahim from his father from Ibn 'Umayr from Al-Hakm ibn Miskeen from Abdul Malik Ibn 'Umar who said Abu Abdillah (عليه السلام) told me: "Oh Abdul Malik I do not see you going out [meaning rebellion] with the people of your land ?" I said " And where?" He said: "Jeddah, Abadan, al-Masisah and Qazwin" So I said "I follow your command and I follow you" So he said "Yes by Allah if it was better than what preceded us" He said: I said to him "For the Zaydiyyah say there is not between us and Ja'far a difference expect he does not see jihaad." So he said "I do not see it? Rather by Allah I see it but I dislike it, I hate to let go of my knowledge for their ignorance." And it was narrated by Ash-Shaykh by his isnad from Muhammad ibn Ya'qub and other than before him.

وعن محمد بن أبي عبد الله ومحمد بن الحسن، عن سهل بن زياد، وعن محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد جميعا عن الحسن بن العباس بن الجريش، عن أبي جعفر الثاني عليه السلام في حديث طويل في شأن انا أنزلناه، قال: ولا أعلم في هذا الزمان جهادا إلا الحج والعمرة والجوار.

And from Muhammad bin Abi 'Umayr bin Hassan, from Sahl bin Ziyad, and from Muhammad bin Yahya, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Hassan bin 'Abbas, from Abi Ja'far the second (al-Jawad(as)) in a long hadith: "And I do not know in this age any Jihad other than Hajj, Umrah and your neighbours.

I hope all brothers and sisters see the value of being politically informed and involved, lets not be like ahlul koofa who thru their political and religious ignorance did not know good from evil because all they were interested in were themselves.

Ḥadīth al-thaqalayn (Arabic: حَديث الثَّقَلَين, literally: hadith of the two weighty things) is a famous and mutawatir(frequent) hadith from the Prophet (s) which implies people should follow the Qur'an and Ahl al-Bayt (a) after the Holy prophet's (s) demise. Based on this hadith, Muslims should refer to the Qur'an and Ahl al-Bayt (a) and these two are inseparable.

The hadith is accepted by all Muslims, both Sunni and Shi'a, and has been mentinoed in the hadith books of all of Islamic sects.

Relying on the hadith of thaqalayn, Shi'a scholars prove the necessity of Imam, necessity of infallibility of Imams, and the necessity of continuation of Imamate in all times.


Hadith al-Thaqalayn According to Shi`as

What points out to the fact that Shi`as are the followers of the authentic Prophetic Sunnah is hadith al-thaqalayn (tradition of the two weighty things) of the Messenger of Allah who is quoted saying:

I am leaving among you the Two Weighty Things: the Book of Allah and my `Itrat (Progeny), my Ahlul Bayt. So long as you (simultaneously) uphold both of them, you will never be misled after me; so, do not go ahead of them else you should perish, and do not lag behind them else you should perish; do not teach them, for they are more knowledgeable than you.1

According to some narrations, the Prophet added to the above saying, “The Most Benevolent, the all-Knowing, has informed me that they both shall never part till they meet me at the Pool (of al-Kawthar).”

This tradition of the Two Weighty Things in the wording indicated above is recorded by “Ahlul Sunnah wal Jama`a” in more than twenty of their major Sahih2 reference books and Musnads3, and it is included by the Shi`as in all their books of hadith.

Chapter Five: Imam Ali (as)’s position on Fadak



Nawasib can offer as many defences for Abu Bakr as they like, but the bottom line is that Imam Ali (as) did not deem Abu Bakr’s position to be correct, rather he was scathing in his criticism. We read in Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4349 that Umar acknowledged the following to Imam ‘Ali (as):

Umar’s Words:
When the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) passed away, Abu Bakr said:” I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him).” Both of you came to demand your shares from the property (left behind by the Messenger of Allah). (Referring to Hadhrat ‘Abbas), he said: You demanded your share from the property of your nephew, and he (referring to ‘Ali) demanded a share on behalf of his wife from the property of her father. Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) had said:” We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is (to be given in) charity.” So both of you thought him to be a liar, sinful, treacherous and dishonest.

We appeal to justice, in any legal system the more senior a judge, the more reliability is afforded to his decision on account of a recognition that the said  judge excels all other on matters of law, so that what he opines will be the most accurate ruling on a matter based on an accurate interpretation of the Quran and Sunnah.  Now when we look at the companions of the Prophet (s) we see that the most senior judge from amongst them was Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as).  In this regard we read the following traditions:

بن أبي إياس ثنا شعبة عن أبي إسحاق عن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد عن علقمة عن عبد الله قال كنا نتحدث أن أقضى أهل المدينة علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين و لم يخرجاه

Abullah said: ‘We used to say that no one is the best Judge in Madina other than Ali’
Hakim said: ‘Sahih according to the standards of both Sheikhs’

A hadith from Imam Sadiq (AS), in which, each exodus before the emergence, is considered to be the devil of the Imams and the Shiites. How is justifiable with the Islamic Revolution?
In Sahyaha Sajjadi's document, there is a hadith from Imam Sadiq (AS), in which, each exodus before the emergence is considered to be the cause of the grief of the Imams and the Shiites. Please explain how to match this hadith with the Islamic Revolution.
Concise answer

In answer to this question, one should say:

First, this category of narratives was either due to taqiyyah or in certain circumstances that the armed insurrection did not have any benefit or effect. In addition, there are some cases in our narratives that confirm some uprisings.

Secondly, the narrative is about armed uprisings and revolutions, but it does not negate other corrective movements, and it is also observed in the sect of the Imams (a) that they have been subject to such movements.
